The food is delicious and Authentic so as Sri Lankan’s this is a great find! The staff are very warm and friendly and the setting has a rustic, chilled out feel about it which just added to the charm! We will definitely make The Coconut Tree our go to place for our Hopper fix! Highly recommend!
I had a terrific meal here, with friendly and patient service, as well as delicious food. The staff were really great about my dining companion being coeliac (helps that a lot of the menu is gluten free by default). Lots of exciting dishes to try, but next time I'll make sure to ask for my food to be Sri Lankan spicy!
A cool place to try out Sri Lanka food in Oxford.
The restaurant is located a bit out from city centre (10 min car journey). Quite easy access from Cowley.
The staff was very friendly!
Recommended booking if you’re going busy hours, like weekend and Friday evening.
They have an interesting collection of cocktails. We had the non-alcoholic one. It was good.
Food wise, most dishes are kind of small curry dish - meant to be shared. We had 4 to be shared among 2 of us. It was just the right amount. We also had an egg hopper each - very interesting egg pancake with some spicy flavouring!
The overall experience was good, but not amazing. Food was just okay (salmon was a bit over cooked; and the pumpkin was with skin on and the flavour was just okay). Will come back when craving for Sri Lanka food.
Great night out with my partner. Amazing food, tasty small plates that are bursting with flavor. No complaints other than with the small plates costs can add up if you aren't careful. Visited on a Friday evening and great music playing, lovely atmosphere! Very friendly and helpful staff, enthusiastic, but obviously stretched very thin. Not enough staff to maintain the tables properly and very long wait for food. But staff were super helpful and the food was great!
Whilst portion sizes have got smaller since they opened , the food was good atmosphere good , but service was really spot on , food came to the table quickly and there was no difficulty sharing the bill , as they gave us individual bills to pay.. perfect
The food is very good, a little bit hot but very tasty. Staff are nice and helpful - but service is sometimes slow. Very good Sri Lankan restaurant not in the center of Oxford.
My first ever experience of Srilankan cuisine and it was finger licking good. The hopper both veg and egg versions were very good. The 5C sambal, lamb cutlets and kotthu were tasty too. It was good value for money too.
Great to experience Sri Lankan food. Good flavours, portion sizes and also good value!
The Coconut Tree is a fantastic Sri Lankan restaurant located in Oxford that is a must-visit for foodies looking for an authentic and flavorful culinary experience. The ambiance is relaxed and cozy, with friendly and attentive staff who go above and beyond to ensure that you have an enjoyable dining experience.
The cocktail menu is particularly impressive, with a wide variety of delicious drinks to choose from. We recommend trying the Sri Lankan Cinnamon Old Fashioned, a delightful cinnamon, and arrack that is the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The RaspBangin Martini is also a must-try, a refreshing and fruity martini made with raspberry and lime juice that packs a punch.
The food menu features an array of traditional Sri Lankan dishes that are bursting with flavor. Each dish is prepared using fresh ingredients and traditional cooking techniques, resulting in an authentic and delicious taste. We highly recommend trying the Hopper with a range of toppings - they were all absolutely delicious! The Kottu was also amazing, with tender pieces of meat and vegetables stir-fried with flatbread and spices.
Overall, The Coconut Tree is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience in Oxford. The combination of mouth-watering food and delicious cocktails makes this restaurant a standout in the city's vibrant food scene. We highly recommend it and can't wait to go back and try more of their delectable offerings!
Food was okay. Service was probably slow but the staff were very friendly. Roti Paratha was probably made from one of the frozen paratha you get from the supermarket which wasn't expected at a restaurant.
Yummy small plates. The pumpkin dish was my fave!
Amazing restaurant with beautiful food!
Parking is available just up the street at a place called St Clement’s carpark, I believe this is the nearest one.
Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxed and very pleasant. The menu looks a bit daunting at first but the staff will soon tell you how it all works.
There is a great choice on the menu with lots of gluten free and vegan dishes available as well as meat options. They also do a wide range of cocktails and mocktails on the drinks side. The cost is very reasonable too!
This restaurant is truly amazing, a visit is a must if you’re in the area. Based on this experience I think you’d be mad to miss out!
