Not been to the Fishes for a while, though I had been going since being a child. We were two large groups celebrating a birthday. The food was delicious each and everyone of us loved the food and the staff were so friendly and efficient so I'd like to congratulate them. They even catered well for the vegetarian and vegan in our party who also enjoyed their food, especially dessert! Well done The Fishes. We certainly won't leave it so long next time!

Set in a lovely location. There is a good variety of wines and decent gins. The staff were all really friendly. Customer service was outstanding. The food was delicious as always. My mum loved the wide selection of fish dishes. I will certainly visit again.

We had lunch with you yesterday and your staff are always amazing and polite. The young blonde lady goes through every detail from the specials board without any hesitation. Service is always quick and efficient and the food is beautiful which is why we always return.

One of our favourite places, particularly in the summer when you can be on the balcony or in the garden. Very friendly staff.

...The Fishes. Now, THE FISHES is not to be confused with FISHERS - the former being a lovely big gastro pub, set in North Hinksey Village, with a whole acre of green gardens backing onto Seacourt Stream; the latter being a small seafood restaurant in St Clements, which can be somewhat hit or miss. Arriving a good hour and a half after the event kicked off (fashionably late dahhhling), we were pleasantly surprised by how many people had already showed up - the garden wasn't quite full to capacity, but only one lonely picnic bench remained. Had lunch here with my wife and two friends. We had mains, desserts and drinks and a few beers and it was all great. The staff were attentive, the atmosphere was warm and inviting on a cold and rainy day and food arrived quickly. I had a pie and garlic mashed and it was fantastic. My wife had onion soup and it was lovely. Our friends had the fish of the day and the coq au vin and they were both great. We had four different desserts and they were all super tasty. The food was reasonably priced and service was great. The restaurant was lovely and clean. We will definitely be visiting again and again with other friends.

many thanks to vicky for creating this business listing. i've been procrastinating writing this review for way too long now! this is my ideal pub, for sure! away from the hustle and bustle of the city. but this has to be your go to pub when you are in oxford! interesting menu that offered more than i can order. my eyes became too big for my stomach! in the end i had to settle for their pork collar steak. and my choice was spot on. 2 sizable pieces of well grilled, tender but with a hint of chewiness, meat. the apricot, chilli and shallot salsa was the perfect companion. sweet and spicy all at once. the watercress readily balanced the taste and colour of this dish. the mushroom soup was of the right consistency and the croutons were huge and generous. the steak sandwich had a slightly burnt ciabatta but tasted good. the summer slaw was made with purple coloured cabbage and correctly tangy. skinny chips were well fried too. sausage and mash consists of big juicy sausages but the gravy as pointed out by vicky, was overly salty. wash it all down with their local brew and you will have arrived at the pearly gates of gourmet heaven. i like the spaciousness and the cleanliness the fishes pub offers. based on a couple of guys armed with laptops, i'm guessing that there must be some form of free wifi. i also overheard some guests saying that they needed to move down to the park benches if the wanted to smoke. that means away from even the outdoor patios. this is a big plus for non smokers!:) finally, there's also a playground and park area for family with kids. and like vicky pointed out you can have a picnic basket filled with their gourmet food and eat in the park area.

I was at The Fishes with a small group of people for dinner, and was very happy there! The char-grilled chicken dish with the risotto was super yummy. I think the only thing that was missing was a side of some kind of green vegetable or something. Regardless, it was a great meal. I also recommend the summer pudding for dessert, it was quite nice.

Another of our East Oxford team's favourites. A stylish gastropub with something for all members of the family. The Fishes has a relaxed, comfortable bar area and a separate dining area including a balcony. Views of the extensive garden provide an idyllic setting for the specialist picnic hampers provided by the talented chefs.

Very nice restaurant. Party of 12 for lunch so we pre-ordered from the set menu at £35 per head. All choices were delivered correctly and in good time, can't complain! The food was very well presented and prepared (maybe the chicken in the supreme was a bit overcooked or sat a little while but no biggie). Good choice of wines, beers and soft drinks. Well made coffee to finish. Excellent attentive serving staff and we really appreciated the bowl of chips! Thanks for making our family meal a great one.

Had a spontaneous meal here- never heard of this place, but it came up on Google. Food was typical gastro-pub grub, Sunday roast was lovely (though could use more gravy). Delicious posset for dessert. The highlight was we sat on the beautiful terrace in the balmy Sunday afternoon which was a delight. Our waitress (Tilly) was lovely.

Went here for a Sunday lunch. The service was great but we had higher expectations for the food. It was acceptable and we had a nice meal, everything was cooked well, but the meat was a bit too thinly cut and the pork crackling consisted a few flakes sprinkled on top. I thought we’d get more/better (for the price too). We also noticed the restaurant could be cleaner, there were food stains splattered on the wall next to our table, and large cobwebs in the corners, never mind an ‘attention to detail’…

Great drinks, super cosy pub, lovely pub garden. I often come to this pub and the staff and always very friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of smaller dishes (starters/small plates/sides) which I actually prefer to choose from instead of mains to get variation. But the mains and specials also have a good variation, good portion sizes and great flavour. The Sunday roasts are also decent but could do with a bit more flavour sometimes.

My favourite pub in Oxford. Very special pub as this is where my husband proposed to me on the bridge over the river at the bottom of this lovely pubs garden. It's a very romantic setting. There's a teepee in the garden for hire or seating when not booked. Food is very good, a little pricey now though. Staff were friendly and very helpful. They have a dedicated gluten free menu which is great. Highly recommended.

Took some 'yooves' out for a bit of a celebration. Food choice was good. Service was prompt and well cooked if under seasoned. Nice pub, would be back
