Review The Rising Sun Inn - Parkend

Wish this was my local but 150 miles is a bit far. Perfect as a Brit stop. Had 4dinners and two lunches a lot of black and tans (no Porters). Partner enjoyed the Shiraz and the other two family members with us just as happy. The choice, price, quality, helpings of food were exceptional. The staff, all of them were the best and the landlords husband and wife team plus other family members were hands on and incredibly friendly. Silver band and a guitar duo earlier on Sunday were very enjoyable. Obviously they run this inn to make a profit but my gut feeling was they wanted to help and serve more. They have been running this pub for 10 years and I hope will continue until I cannot drive there anymore. It will always be my stop off when in the forest of Dean. Overall a 5 star experience from the 4 of us. Also a perfect spot for accessing the trails.

We had a lovely meal here while camping in the area for the weekend. The service was good and the staff friendly. We had the burger which was excellent (and with a pretzel bun which I loved), the butternut squash curry (also excellent). Kids meal portions are pretty big, like small adult size, so young kids like ours would have been fine to share a portion. Atmosphere was really nice too, we were there on a Saturday evening in August and there was live local bands playing a variety of music. They are dog friendly too, our pooch got a fuss made of him and a biscuit. Really couldn't fault the place, top marks would definitely recommend.

We absolutely LOVE this pub. It's right next to the woods so perfect for nature lovers. Dogs allowed and welcomed, with a resident dog who loves a good game of fetch. Lots of outdoor seating out the front and back. Kids play area and large green. Regular live music with a good crowd of people. Friendly and welcoming staff. There is a huge pond which hosts a variety of wildlife, we often see dragonflies and other interesting bugs. Last time we were there we were treated to a flock of 9 ducklings! As for the food, always top notch. Traditional pub grub on weekdays and a Bangup Sunday roast. Lots of puddings on offer and lots of specials on the board. But get there early if you want the fish and chips because its very popular. Very reasonably priced too for both drinks and food. 5*s well earned.

Delicious homemade food, big portions, friendly service, and you should really try the desserts... Yummy!

Five of us and a small dog visited here for an evening meal on a Tuesday evening and sat inside and enjoyed the very nice Butty Bach ale on tap. We ordered three lots of Boar sausages with mash (on special menu), a curry and chicken bits with chips. I can only speak for the sausages (pictured) that were absolutely fabulous. The other meals were very much enjoyed too. This has a friendly local pub feel to it so is great for an honest meal after a day of sightseeing. There’s loads of parking. And sheep!

Had a late Sunday lunch here. Wow, my friend said (and I wholeheartedly agree) that it was the best roast dinner we've had in a very long time. Atmosphere relaxed and friendly. All staff amazing. We'll definitely be returning!

Very dog friendly all through, not just on that table over there up the corner. Food was really nice and fresh and served very quickly on each occasion we visited during the week.

It's a little off the beaten track but totally worth it. Really friendly staff and the food was out of this world. Between us we had a Thai green curry, steak and a burger. The curry was tasty and with a generous portion of rice and chips. The burger was homemade and super tasty- again with generous sides. I asked for a steak as fat free as possible and had the most amazing steak I've ever had- perfectly cooked, practically fat free. So so tasty. Definitely recommend this place.
