Really beautiful inn hidden away in the Brecon Beacons area. Service was beyond fantastic and food was delicious and portion sizes were great. Highly recommend eating here, whether you're in the area or looking for a nice place to go and eat - it's definitely worth the journey. The extra surprise was the zoo in the back which is great for the kids. The artwork in the restaurant was amazing - would be great to find more info on the artists somewhere! Will definitely return when we're in Wales again.

Another Absolutely top quality meal at the Penycae, Never disappointed. We had the best Sunday lunch there recently, always highly recommend this pub to friends. Excellent food, surroundings, beer and staff!

We were the 1st 2 people to order the cote de boeuf which was new to the menu and I must say it was faultless. We thoroughly enjoyed it, a succulent, tasty steak, safe to say the best we've ever had. It was followed by an outstanding lemon cheesecake which was 2nd to none. The food, art and dining experience was out of this world and I can't wait for our next visit. The chef made an appearance to check if all was well, which made it such was a unique experience. We will be making a return visit 100%.

We were recommended the Penycae Inn by friends and we are so glad we made the hour drive to come here. It was absolutely fantastic - stunning views, amazing food and the zoo is brilliant. The owners are so friendly and accommodating. They were fully booked for Sunday lunch but let us eat outside in the garden. So glad they did because this was the best Sunday lunch I’ve ever had. You must make an effort to visit - we can’t wait to come back.

Ive been many places and do appreciate good food and dont mind paying for a good meal. What you get with the Penycae inn is totally exceptional food and very reasonable prices and also outstanding service. Ive travelled to many places amongst my time working for Ford Motor Company to very expensive parts of the world, but what you cant beat is the standard of food service and that feeling of welcome which makes you feel at home. Staff and owners are lovely and coudnt ever think of anywere else i would rather visit.

Fabulous pub, the staff are excellent and efficient. Food was good but a but 'pub norm'. The specials were fish dishes and pizza. Well worth the drive and a family style menagerie with cranes, meerkat, goat and surprisingly wallabies. Loved it.

Amazing pub, great service from friendly and cheerful staff, generous food portions that tasted great. They even have Parrots in the beer garden who are very chirpy. Massively grateful for them looking after such a big group, 19 of us !!! we loved it xx

Lovely food, and staff are very friendly. Service was quite slow when we went for a group meal a few weeks back, however we were not the only group in so can understand why. The animals are also a lovely touch!

Second visit here to this stunning place. Such a friendly bunch and the owner is fab. Lovely relaxed bar area and a very nice restaurant upstairs. Food is stunning and not too pricey. Would totally recommend it. And....you get the micro zoo too. Perfect for an afternoon out. Lovely outside seating areas too if it's a dry day. We'll be back, of course. 👌

Nice day out from Cardiff for relaxing lunch in Pen y cae, on the edge of Brecon National Park. Mini Zoo gardens and outdoor seating. We sat inside, upstairs in the conservatory. Lift available for those with challenges.

Had a wonderful family meal here. Menu goes a bit further than standard pub fare, without being pretentious. Portions ample and everything nicely cooked. A couple of us went for the specials which were well worth the extra cost. Only slight quibble was the children's menu which was "chips with everything". To be fair, the chips were lovely but a healthy option would be nice. Since the child in our party was only 9 months it didn't really matter on this occasion so no hesitation in awarding 5**
