We just love this place! There is such character and the staff and owner are all fabulous and our dog now knows there are treats behind the bar
The food is super! My steak last week was cooked medium rare and to perfection!
Not a place to miss when you are in Penzance!
Full of charm and a great new Landlord supported by enthusiastic staff. The building and interior are utterly fascinating.. No pub like it that I've ever found
The ambience is truly unique. A bit of airflow in the back of the room would still be advisable. As a group, we ordered a whole range of dishes from the menu. Summary: Some of the dishes tasted excellent, others mediocre, one was unfortunately not good at all. Unfortunately, there was no response to this.
Best pub of our trip! The maritime atmosphere is unique and the crew was more than friendly: the captain kindly welcomed us in perfect French, the waitress was full of joy and the waiter entertained us in French/English/Breton(!). We simply regret not asking for their names!
We had such a wonderful evening with our delicious fish & chips and pints that we came back on the morrow!

Fantastic pub, a unique decor, great beer and tasty food. Didn’t expect to have very good seafood: my partner had a hake and I had mussels. My only suggestion would be maybe to serve bread with the mussels. But overall, we were very happy with the meal. The pub is a must in Penzance for both food and atmosphere!
Mad interesting pub.. loved it.. food was beautiful and chefs home made tartare sauce was to die for! Friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend a visit!
The food are great in value, ordered pizza and thick chips, definitely too much for one person. But I was managed to finished with beer. The staff are really nice and helpful. Good for solo and groups of friends and family.
Iconic smugglers pub with low ceilings, ships rigging and pirate paraphernalia to navigate around whilst searching for a seat. Good range of drinks and food available to compliment the unique location.
Its all about the history and atmosphere. Secret smugglers tunnels lead to the sea, inside is decorated to be inside an old galleon ship. Amazing atmosphere for dining.
An amazing collective mix of maritime memorabilia which makes this place unique and takes you back to a bygone era. However, the staff alone would not make a decision as to whether my son and I could eat, so we had to wait until the Manageress arrived for her shift. The food was good but her manner was more of fish wife as far as speaking to staff! We could hear her swearing and f...ing at the kitchen staff about peas, then when an American couple asked her to recommended one of their English lagers she replied with "we don't like it so we don't serve it, we do stock Czech and German though" they were flabbergasted by her response. We and another family were also surprised that staff didn't know more about the pubs history. Could be a great place if managed better and there was someone on the door to great clients.
Such a quaint little historic pub. Staff were really friendly. The food was lovely, and inside the pub is unbelievable, I've never been in a pub quite like it !!!
Context: Ate here (with late-notice reservation) while in the city in Sep-2023 on a stormy night.
Positives: Friendly staff. Good food. The decorations covering the pub were quite fun.
Negatives: Our table was super small.
Summary: Worth a visit
