Always a great atmosphere and friendly service here! Portion sizes are massive, brilliant value for money and the mead choices are amazing! Always something new to try each time you visit
We went as a family group for my Birthday in August.. the staff were amazing as ever, so friendly & helpful, we arrived dripping wet from the rain & they offered to dry our coats while we enjoyed a delicious meal together. The photo is of Kath 'big nana' who has just 'rung the bell' after major op & many visits to Treliske.. We have visited many times & feel so sad that it could all end soon!! 😪
An authentic Cornish meadery with so many different flavours of mead to choose from. The food portions are massive so there was no need for starters ! We did not book but the staff gave us an accurate wait time for a table and we had drinks upstairs whilst waiting. Great vibes and atmosphere just a little bit dark inside the actual restaurant
We come every year to Cornwall and always eat here. My daughter calls it the 'Pirate restaurant'. It is decorated with dim lights, fishing nets and lanterns. You feel like you have stepped back in time, it is a great atmosphere. The staff are always polite and friendly. The food is always plentiful and well cooked.
Great place, super friendly stafff. Food was fingerlicking good, portions with a size of an elephant. Would return for sure. Only lights were quite dull, but in all place just awesome. We got some deep fried mushrooms, pork ribs and fish fingers.
Had the ribs and as you can see on the photo the food struggled staying on the plate, once I managed to get through the top rack of ribs I started on the second and to my amazement there was a third rack underneath! Delicious and loads of meat on the the ribs, staff were swept off their feet with work and it was a very hot day we visited so its understandable that the service wasn't as good but other reviews say it was great. Would visit again you get more than your moneys worth.
We went to Penzance on the Riviera Sleeper for our 33rd Wedding anniversary and found the Meadery by accident (the place that we were recommended to go to was full).
We had to wait in the rooftop bar for a table but that was a great start to the evening, we sampled the Meads they had and enjoyed the view, had a conversation with a local couple who were also waiting for a table and then went down for our meal when we were called.
The food was really quite tasty and a really good price (although the portions we got were huge, my meal could have fed two. We enjoyed the ambience and although we were in a place that felt throwback to the 1990s we loved that (especially as we got married in 1989 and we were there to celebrate that).
All in all finding this place was a happy accident and they gave us a great night which was really good value for money. We would eagerly go again.
I have long held, very fond memories of this place, and it didn't disappoint. The food is plentiful and very hot! You are served courteously and quickly, and offered doggy bags if you can't finish, which we needed. Please go and support this wonderful, family run business while you still can
Great place for quirky food and drink in a pirate theme based eatery on the Penzance harbour side. Managed to get in without a booking but would recommend booking ahead in season as it is very popular. Quick service and delicious food. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Penzance.
First things portion sizes... the portion are massive...and it is not a case of quantity over quality. The food is good, specially the fish dishes. My partner got the fish fries which was extremely fresh. Also the prawn starters amazing.
Last thing massive thanks to the staff! Super friendly and did not forget about us in the corner. Constantly checking up on us to see if we needed anything.
Amazing customer service.
Great service and massive portions of amazing food, go for the food and stay for the mead!
UPDATE: Just been back at the end of March and once again was a great experience. We were waited on very quickly and the staff were friendly. Portions were very big and tasty of which we had the breaded mushrooms and prawn cocktail to start and then chicken in the rough and ribs as a main.
6 of us, including a 1 year old went for a meal here after being recommended it by the locals.
The restaurant is pretty cramped and claustrophobic and was a nightmare to get the high chair and pram into our booth. We were led to our table which was down a small and narrow corridor. I liked the candle lit tables and blacked out windows and felt as if it was a nice feature. As for our booth, it wasn't very scenic at all and the seats were really uncomfortable.
The mead was great, if you're into it and there was plenty of flavours to choose from.
We all opted for the chicken and chips, which was lovely! I feel as it the place was just a bit too hyped up for us all.
The lady who served us was polite and tentative and made us feel very welcomed.
Would definitely go again if the option of a different seating area was available. Or I've heard the Meadery in Newlyn is better.

Been visiting the Waterside Meadery for 16years now. Never had a bad meal or experience. Staff are always happy and friendly and food is always piping hot! Think I’ve burnt my mouth on the mushrooms every time I’ve had them! Mead is always good too. Can’t wait to visit again!
Always love having a meal here, fantastic service and delicious food 🥰
