We had a wonderful visit here yesterday. Our guide on the tour, Bill, was very knowledgeable and we learnt lots which we wouldn't have done if we had gone round on our own. Afterwards we had a delicious lunch in the restaurant then spent money in the exceptionally well-stocked shop. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.
Visited here yesterday with an Itison voucher for the guided tour and afternoon tea and would highly recommend to others. The tour guide and staff in the shop and cafe were very friendly and made us feel so welcome. Will definitely be back again 😀
I had stayed in the Perth area and never visit till now that I have moved away. I was very impressed well presented and signposted. The entrance is in a modern lovely gift shop. The staff were very helpful and informative. The exhibitions were very interesting and informative. Very interesting from a historical perspective but did not glorify war. I had a lovely lunch in the beech resturaunt over looking the grounds. I could recommend it for a family day out :-)
Took the tour today.Brilliant guide, all staff very helpful and extremely pleasant.Would thoroughly recommend it.Finished off with a bite to eat in the restaurant again good food and very helpful and extremely pleasant staff.Well worth a visit.
Very interesting. We learnt a lot that we had no idea about. We didn't do the guided tour, just wandered ourselves but still found lots of information. The restaurant did an excellent tea and scone as well. The lunch menu looked very inviting but unfortunately we couldn't stop long enough for. I think it's also advisable to book a table as it looked quite busy.
Lovely lunch today, very attentive staff. The castle is well worth a visit, great history of the Black Watch. Informative and educational. A super gift shop too. Good day out.
Well worth it and so much info , well laid out and has all the mod cons for displays. Very well stocked shop and good sized cafe. Made my day with the fact granddad's Regiment was with them on two fronts, BOER War and Egypt.
24 years of my life was Black Watch. I worked at Balhousie Castle twice in the past spending 4 years in total in a stunning location in the heart of Perth. I love the surroundings so much so that my wife and I chose the Castle grounds for our wedding photos some 29 years ago! The place is growing and buzzing & I wish the grand old lady building all the very best for the future. Signing off as Scotland's Premier #WeddingMC ToastmasterBSB
What an interesting place to spend the day. I would recommend forking out the few pounds extra for the guided tour which obviously adds to the experience. Our guide, Richard was really informative and gave us an insight into the Black Watch over the years. The cafe provides excellent light meals too.
Excellent experience. Impressive exhibits & videos, friendly, helpful staff, lovely shop, delicious food, spotless toilets. Our tour guide, Hope, made the tour interesting and entertaining. All boxes ticked.
We were married at the Castle on Sat . Truly amazing day , Anne, Debbie and team were just the best can’t thank them enough . The food was sensational so big thanks to Chef Mark and his team too . with love from Denise & Ronnie x
Fascinating place with an excellent cafe and friendly staff.
A group from Spice Scotland visited yesterday. We all loved how many items were on show and learned a lot about the Black Watch. We had a lovely lunch and I was impressed with my Vegan lunch. Scotland can do this so much better than elsewhere. Please give my compliments to the chef. We finished by going into the trench where we were blown away by the knowledge of the soldier telling us how the soldiers lived in the trenches. I said later perhaps if he did this in schools people would not think war was good. On his own he gets 10 out of 10 but the whole visit was fantastic so thank you. #Spicescotland
Had a very enjoyable visit to the museum today and a great guided tour with Charlie who was incredibly knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend.
Great place with super friendly and chatty stuff, ladie at the tickets office was absolutely amazing. The tour started with a 6-minute presentation video, but don't worry, it's quite interesting, and time goes quickly. There are 11 galleries, and it's all very interesting.
A great way to spend a morning or afternoon, learning the incredible history of The Black Watch. Very well curated and laid out, the exhibition was both enjoyable and informative. There was also a treasure trail that our kids enjoyed completing as we toured around.
The Bistro Restaurant was a great way to end our tour, enjoying coffees and cake in a lovely environment with table service.
The staff onsite were all lovely and friendly and there was a small carpark available with plenty parking nearby also.
We took a short walk from town (about 15 minutes) and it was easy to find.
Really thoughtful and excellent history and displays of the regimental development over the centuries, lots of detail and interesting artefacts, well laid out and with fun interactions. The cafe must be good as it was packed out when we went! A very worthwhile visit.
Popped in for a quick bite and saw this amazing sculpture just outside the castle entrance. It's called The Hauntings. Very impressive. Food in the bistro was lovely good service and very clean. Very friendly staff.
We visited end of day so did not go inside. They have a nice café and gift shop (no entry fee) and the exterior with its monumental sculpture is fascinating to see. Quite a beautiful setting!
Delighted we managed to see The Hauntings, which is a very impressive sculpture. Strongly recommend visiting this ghostly soldier at Halloween.
Welcomed by lovely informative staff on our arrival who gave us a map and a quick run down of what to expect on our visit (also a game to keep the kids interested).
It was really well laid out with lots of amazing historical artefacts and interesting information. Nice gift shop, lovely cafe and great kids play area. Definitely worth the visit.
New visit. Went for breakfast. No toast on menu and was told I could get it when asked. Yippee. Now bearing in mind they must have bread for other menu items, I was expecting a nice bread toasted. The toast was thin and from a big standard loaf. Friend had Eggs Benedict which looked and tasted delicious. Only issue was that the muffin was thin, similar to those 'healthier' muffins.
Went to see 'The Haunting' sculpture. Which is worth a visit. Cafe nice and prices a bit dearer than in town. Scone nice as is the Sticky Toffee cake slice.
A true Hongkonger must visit the Black Watch Museum. This museum is full of the history of the Black Watch where you can see a lot of photos and exhibits about the connections between the Black Watch and British Hong Kong.
The flag of British Hong Kong which was used during the handover ‘ceremony’ is exhibited there. This recalls a lot of unforgettable memories British Hongkongers left behind, and those being left behind.
Fantastic in every way. My tour guide, Jim Paterson, was incredibly knowledgeable and interesting. This is a MUST VISIT in Scotland.
