Maharanis

Some really interesting chinese/indian fusions on the starters - vegetable manchurian came in a sticky soy glaze with finely diced bell pepper and onion. The chicken momo was an indian inspired take on chinese dim sum- with a peanut and soy dipping sauce. The railway curry ( which is why we visited in the first place) scored 10/10 from my hubby who said it was the best he had ever had. Only suggestion would be to let the onions and peppers on the cast iron sizzler, cook for longer so they have a char to them - mine were a bit too raw for my liking.

We haven’t ordered from Maharani's for a while so we thought we’d give them a go. We ordered food via delivery from their website which was quick and easy to do. Food arrived piping hot and it was really tasty with generous portions. Of particular note was the chat puri, being a starter it was a decent portion size and extremely good!. Naan bread wasn’t too thick and properly garlicky. The balti and jalfrezi tasted awesome, we were both left feeling very full but delighted.

We frequent the various curry houses in Peterborough on a regular basis as well as going into London for the Michelin star curry offerings, add to that half our family originates from Pakistan, indirect way of saying we know our stuff when it comes to this type of food! After being hugely disappointed with certain restaurants going downhill, rapidly, and increasing their prices, substantially we thought we'd try Maharanis. I'm not sure why but its never really been on our radar. We turned up last Friday without a reservation and got seated quickly. To keep it brief, the curries... out of this world. Whatever chef you had cooking on Friday, do not ever let them leave. Unique, tasty and fresh. Not your standard English-ified bland curries like every other restaurant in Peterborough. Last year we spent some time in Sri Lanka and the food was on-par with that, really unique and special. Keep up the good work. I would have given 4 stars rather than 5 but the mains are just too good, the reason I'd have knocked a star off: - Pickle tray - No pickle in it! Please add a pickle and remove the weird ketchup. - Poppadoms - Slightly stale unfortunately. - Glasses - Not 100% clean, slightly off putting. As I said though, the flavours experienced here are like nothing else in Peterborough, I can't not give 5 stars!

Update: We went for another Wednesday evening for the specials and it's such a good deal. First 2 pics was taken last week. Went there yesterday a week later after our last visit. Our food was served fast on a busy Wednesday curry night. Always never disappoints and went home happy after eating 🤣. Serving is big I couldn't finish it so I had to take home some of it and ate it as my midnight snack now I can sleep peacefully 🤣
