Honestly the best meal out we've had in years. Booked for a family birthday meal and requested a dining pod. Perfect for allowing the kids to enjoy themselves without worrying about keeping them on their seats! The owner is fantastic, friendly, upbeat and full of energy, but not overbearing. He strikes the perfect hosting balance! The waiting staff were lovely, very attentive and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The food was superb. Obviously quality ingredients expertly cooked with very generous portions. Not the cheapest but certainly not overpriced and, bearing in mind the quality of the food and service, I would say excellent value for money. Will definitely be back again soon and I cannot recommend this place enough.

Great little village pub with bags of atmosphere and a strong link to the bomber squadrons that flew from Pocklington airfield during WWII. There are loads of photos, squadron badges etc, on display. We had a drink, went for a lovely 4 mile walk through the woods on Allerthorpe Common, then returned for a meal and more drinks. Staff were friendly and helpful. Although there was a fairly limited choice of beers, what they had were very well kept, Timothy Taylors being the best. The food was excellent, a very good menu with plenty of choice, even for the vegan in our party and the prices were very reasonable. Highly recommended

Great beer, friendly staff, good food. There's a lovely beer garden out the front, and plenty of seating inside. Their fries are the best... sweet potato, halloumi or regular potato - they're all awesome. Serves a good pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord....

We have passed this place many times on our way to and from Allerthorpe Lake and always said we'd like to call in. It's in a great location with parking and outdoor seating. The reviews speak volumes. We stopped for Sunday lunch and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and diligent in making us (me, my wife, our two son's and two dogs) feel welcome and catering our every need. Great staff, food, drinks, premises and a peaceful location. Top marks!

Typical country pub of the area. Good food at reasonable prices and excellent portions. Opening hours slightly confusing as not continuous serving, pub is open but there is a break in food service. We arrived at 1615 but had to wait until 1700 to order. Not an issue for us but website could be clearer.
