Review The Noughts & Crosses Inn - Polperro

We ate at the Noughts and Crosses tonight. Lovely fresh seabass, served quickly, nice and hot and reasonably priced wine. Tom the waiter/ barman was lovely and friendly. Relaxed atmosphere. All in all thoroughly enjoyed.

The best roast dinner I've ever had! Very welcoming staff and a good atmosphere. The food was amazing - a variety of vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and tender roast beef.

We ate here last night. Fabulous food. We had scallops and catch of the day. Absolutely great tasty food and well presented. Staff very friendly and musical entertainment was good too. Definitely go here again

Had Sunday lunch which was absolutely fabulous. The staff are attentive and friendly and made the whole experience a real pleasure. The beef pot roast with roast potatoes and vegetables was lovely. Will definitely be going back when we are next in Polperro.

Sunday lunch was excellent, but dont visit if time is an issue. Only one person taking orders and running the bar and one other person wandering around chatting to customers but doing little else. A couple did arrive wait to be served for fifteen minutes and then walked out. Such a shame as food is excellent they just need a good Manager.

Just had a fab dinner there. Scallops to start were plump and juicy, not over cooked at all like others. Followed by the steak and Stilton pie. It was a proper pie with lovely steak chunks and a gravy with melted Stilton. The service was friendly, attentive but not too 'in your face'. Soo much better than some of the higher rated restaurants in the village.

my wife and I visited today at about 5.15 we were well met by a lovely gentleman behind the bar who was very personable and helpful ,who also had a great knowledge of the area. we ordered two drinks and sat in the bar where we inquired about food . we were informed that the kitchen didn't start evening meals until 6 but the gentleman asked about any allergy or dietary requirements and went through the menu with us explaining the catch of the day, locally sourced ingredients and the specials for the day . as soon as the kitchen was ready he already had our menu choices and took it into the kitchen before time .. we decided on local mussels for starter, catch of the day ( sea bass ) for myself and chicken parm for the wife .. with everything cooked to order and the place being just starting evening service I expected a wait but I was pleasantly surprised when the mussels in a beautifully decadent sauce were infront of us before I finished my pint..they were provided with a bowl and a hot lemon water to wash your hands if you eat like an animal as I tend to do . I went up to the bar when we finished the starter and met the owner of the hotel who was very happy to chat and was proud to talk about his place and the food namely the connections to the local area .this gentleman served me at the bar and when I returned to the table he came and cleared off the table ..and returned with the mains in short order .. the sea bass was exquisite and fresh , the sauce it came in was incredible and the new potatoes where slightly pan fried to give them this small crunch when you bit into them the veg was a vivid green and obviously fresh ..it was all perfectly balanced beautifully put together and filling but at the same time a light meal ..perfection . the chicken parm was presented equally well and my wife enjoyed it massively. we tried a small piece of each others and would have happily ordered each others ..and still might we have a few days here..for our desert we chose the lemon tart that was made in house and was divine ...this is first class food .have no doubt about that ...the portions are substantial I'm an eater and if I were to leave a place feeling hungry I'd not write a review .I really enjoyed myself tonight i hope I can return to try some of the other items on the menu try this place you will not regret it Best food I've had since arriving here in polperro . rhys

We went on the the recommendation of a local, glad we did, quirky little place tucked away, friendly staff and owner was very accommodating, the food was amazing and the Sunday roast looked good but we had not booked so will have to return to sample. Highly recommend

THE BEST FOOD WE HAD IN POLPERRO. Absolutely gorgeous food with a very laid back/romantic vibe. 😍 The service by the chefs son is second to none. He was very accommodating when my partner was stressed when trying to get a booking so last minute. We had a deliciously fresh fish starter and a Thai seafood curry for our main and it was soooo good. We had the pistachio brownie as a dessert and it WAS AMAZING! Don't be fooled by how dark it is inside. Go for the food you won't be disappointed!!

Pleasant room, clean towels, food was excellent. Bar was reasonably well stocked, bed linen fresh, tea, coffee, hot chocolate facilities with complimentary biscuit. Bed was very comfortable, slept well. Breakfast was plentiful - cereals followed by a full English with non-stop supply of coffee and toast all well presented and served within ten mins of ordering. Overall very happy. Hosts were communicative and very helpful. Would not hesitate to return.

The food the staff and the locals that visit this restaurant made our evening out fantastic. We had a one-year-old with us, she was free to roam around and interact with staff and other customers. The battered cod was huge and crispy, fresh and delicious. Will be going again while we stay here in this little town. Loved the whole experience.

This was such a beautiful guest house and the staff were so very friendly, helpful and the place was spotless. Safety measures were spot on and faultless and Lisa was a gem and couldn't do enough to make our stay perfect. Thank you Naughts and Crosses for our most wonderful stay and we look forward to seeing you again. Don't hesitate to book in if your looking for amazing fresh food, beautiful clean spacious rooms and such a friendly atmosphere and great ambience. 6 stars from Angela and Dorothy x

Nice place for a pint whilst waiting for a table at the three pilchards , watching the river run through down to the harbour from the window. Serves food, but not on the day we were there, staff all nursing hangovers following the football. Staff friendly and relaxed.

Great Experience- We booked by phone two days before arriving on a Friday night as it was the only accommodation available In Polperro at such short notice. On the way down, we read some of the reviews for The Noughts & Crosses on TripAdvisor and grew alarmed at the number of negative reviews. To reassure ourselves, we called ahead within an hour of our ETA, to check our booking was still intact. We were reassured that they were expecting us and after a short conversation, were able to pre-order our meals as we were arriving at 8.15pm. Three of us ordered the beef burgers which were massive and clearly homemade, and tasted brilliant. Our teenage son, who normally can eat like a horse, couldn’t finish his. I ordered the fish cakes which came with a curried Bernaise sauce that prompted me to ask for the recipe as it was the he best sauce I had ever tried. No desserts were available but they are planning to introduce these to the menu very soon although we were all so full we really couldn’t have managed any. The chef, Sam, is new having only joined a few weeks ago, and his cooking surpassed all our expectations. We met Lisa, the new assistant manager, in the morning whose high standards were clearly reflected in the state of the rooms which were immaculately clean and tidy and the small details considered carefully. Overall, we were very impressed and hope that future guests will not be out off by previous reviews. While Lisa and Sam are holding the fort, this place is in good hands.
