Review Aj's Fish And Chips - Polperro

E Vreeland
I had a great experience at Chip Ahoy (great name)! The staff was very friendly and cheerful, even apologetic that it took a while, while I thought they were actually pretty fast. I ordered a large fish and chips which came with ample chips and a big slab of fish, very well deep fried. Crispy, golden brown colour, and not too greasy. The mushy peas were also excellent. Someone else wrote a review that this chippie transported them right back to their childhood and was the best fish and chips they had since 1983, and I can totally understand that! I'm not even British but I've spent two months in England and these were hands down the best fish and chips I've had during that time! Just thinking about it now makes me nostalgic... Very highly recommended.

Came across this chippy whilst exploring Polperro. Family of 4 of us ordered fish and chips, sausage and chips, and Scampi and chips. Kids loved the fish and chips and the sausage and chips was enjoyed by the Mrs but the scampi was fairly poor and was a little disappointed. Breadcrumbs where very dark and overcooked. I would recommend this place though but just for fish and chips.

If you want real fish and chips, the best you’ve ever tasted, then you must pay a visit to Chip Ahoy when you’re in Polperro. After wandering around the harbour and passing people carrying the most wonderful smelling fish and chips, just like they smelled when I was growing up, I couldn’t resist any longer and went to find the source of this amazing smell and came across Chip Ahoy right by the harbour. They cooked my girlfriend and I fresh cod and chips and we sat on the benches opposite in heaven, while this packet of perfection tasted so good and transported me back to my childhood in Hereford and the days when fish and chips were the only fast food available and every shop only specialised in fish and chips rather than today where most places do kebabs, fried chicken etc and also do fish and chips, but not very well. It’s fair to say Chip Ahoy is in need of some updated decor but the new owner who has just bought the place and moved to the area for a new life away from London was up a ladder giving the outside a lick of paint as we left and will no doubt breath new life into the place. I had to go up to him and congratulate him on the best fish and chips I had tasted for decades and he was genuinely touched to get such feedback. Chip Ahoy will live long in my memory as the best fish and chip shop since 1983! Long may it continue.

Delicious fish, chips and curry sauce/peas. Sat by the harbour to eat them until a gang of thugs (seagulls) grabbed my partners ! They then tried attacking me, no way were they getting mine !! Chip ahoy owner very sympathetic and gave us a large fish for price of small. Eating in was not available.

I can only assume this place has new owners, no Polish people to be seen here, just 2 lovely middle aged Cornish girls serving the crispest battered haddock and gorgeous chips, well cooked and very fresh. Was a bit of a queue but well worth the wait. My kids all agreed it was the best fish and chips they had ever had, and I think I agree. Edit July 2022: New owners since my last visit, can't say what it was like this time as we didn't go there. Seemed very popular but then I think it is the only takeaway in the area.

Lovely chips by the harbour. Paid ÂŁ2.50 for a small portion of chips but there was a fair amount considering where we were. Freshly cooked to order and polite, friendly staff

we had a stunning meal from here after a walk on the coastal path regular cod and chips and sausage and chips worth every penny cod was huge and perfectly cooked chips were also stunning cant comment on the sausage I didn't have any order at the window and collect a number and they shout you to come get it ...the crowd around was quite big when we got there but they served everyone infront in what seemed like no time and ours was minutes and came out so hot that we walked it right to the other end of town and still enjoyed hot chips
