Nick's At Port Of Menteith

The cook school is now open and I went along to a live demo session and I was impressed by how quickly and easily Nick turned a piece of flank steak and a bit of stale soda bread into a delicious snack. A wee tip for anyone else that goes to a demo or class here, look at the big mirror and not Nick if you want to see what's going on, it took me a while to figure that one out.

You should go, trust me you SHOULD! If only to see once how it should be done - the venue is lovely set in fabulous countryside, service is friendly, knowledgeable, efficient and welcoming, but the FOOD! The food is delicious and rich and unctuous and moreish served looking beautiful in big and filling portions. We've been lucky enough to be able to try a good few fine dining restaurants with occasional michelin star and Nick's is the best. We met the man himself today at the cook school open day and like his food he is spot on, down to earth and to the point. Looking forward to going back and am booking cook school sessions now. Even managed to remember to get take a couple of pics this time before we dove in! Can happily recommend the Linguini, the duck and the venison so far. Absolutely fabulous experience in Nick's place. They've totally got it right. A lovely relaxed atmosphere, if you sit outside, you can take your dog and children are welcome too. The food is superb and isn't overpriced. Lovely gifts shop as you leave, which we really enjoyed pottering around in. We would definitely recommend booking, enjoy.

We came here for dinner with our 3 year old. The food was delicious and we were pleasantly surprised to discover that the outdoor seating is right next to a big grassy area and a large sandpit - ideal for entertaining a young child! They dealt very well with my husband's gluten and dairy allergies, and even the items on the kids menu was freshly made and tasty. Excellent, friendly service in a relaxed setting - we would 100% recommend and would definitely return.
