Rarely do I find a restaurant that does every single aspect of the dining experience well. Service was incredibly attentive and hospitable. Food was exceptional - the highlight for me being the lamb chops, zabadee, and the bass. They also do delicious fresh juice!

Went to this little gem of a restaurant.
It's a small restaurant on Purley high street but packs a big punch.
The halal menu is extensive with Egyptian and middle Eastern food.
Food was delicious, portions were generous and price was very reasonable. Food was wonderfully flavoured and fresh.
The service was fantastic, very friendly staff and they really gave it a personal touch.
Music was not intrusive. There is public parking very close by, one of the car parks is free parking after 6pm monday to Saturday.
We will definitely be going back here and highly recommend this

We had the most delicious meal here last weekend! We booked the limitless lunch and enjoyed every single mouthful. The food was amazing! We ordered a couple of starters and the mixed grill for two and even my three year old commented on how yummy it was. The portions were huge, we ended up taking food home and it still tasted so good when eaten the next day.
I cannot praise and thank Jamal and Farida enough for their lovely hospitality and shout out to Nicky too! We're already planning our next visit with friends for a few weeks time and I'll be bringing a couple of bottles with me so I can take home some of their incredible Egyptian lime juice, trust me, it is to die for!

A nice little hidden gem in Purley. I was super amazed by the quality of food and a warm welcome by the friendly staff. Lamb chops in particular were the highlight for us and I will be going there again for sure. Thank You El Shams team.

Authentic Middle Eastern food with gorgeous new decor inside and an expanded menu. Such friendly staff who go the extra mile to make it a great experience for you (and our crazy little toddler!). We had the lahme meshwi which was cooked to perfection and a shawarma wrap with delicious ma’sa’at and foul medames. All great washed down with their Luxor lime juice which tastes just like the original Egyptian one!
Great music, ambience and a very reasonable lunch and children’s menu (halal too which was great for us). Will definitely be coming back again :)

Just like many people have said, this place truly is a hidden gem in Purley! I was recommended by a colleague and so glad I tried El Shams.
The staff are so friendly and attentive which makes the experience even better. Can’t wait to go back again soon!

Just had a delicious takeaway, which arrived promptly right at the estimated time despite the pouring rain. The food is packaged beautifully, all tamper sealed and the hot food is individually packed in metal containers (so no plastic waste). The food itself is delicious, really flavoursome and fresh. The tabbouleh and hummus made delicious starters and to follow we had shish taouk, and the chicken shawarma. Both lovely! The okra are simply fantastic too! Thanks so much, we'll be back for more! Ful meddames will be my breakfast tomorrow! The taster I had tonight was yum.

Fantastic restaurant. Delicious and very varied food with masses of choice and some very unusual items on offer. Felt thoroughly spoilt by the lovely and attentive staff who went above and beyond. Our only downside was we were so out of practice going out due to Covid we couldn't do the food justice. Would particularly recommend the Keyka starter - unique, savoury and a full throttle taste sensation.

The food was excellent! We probably over ordered but they did offer to pack up whatever was left up for us to take home :)
We will definitely go back, lovely place to have a date night without having to take the car. Wish more people would give the small restaurants in Purley a go, much better than chain! We will continue to support this little place <3 thanks guys!
