Absolutely amazing. For drinks and two delicious courses for two our bill was £58. Very reasonable. Stunning decor, beautiful food. The staff are very friendly and professional all smartly dressed and well mannered. Live music which was excellent and just the right volume. Great choice of drinks too. Would definitely book here again!

Visited on Boxing Day for a family meet up - and had a lovely time.
The food was good and well presented. We were asked to order ahead, which was no problem, and there was a slight delay in being seated after arrival but the food was brought out in a timely manner.
Staff did a great job over a busy festive period, and the decorations inside were lovely.

Lockdown doesn't have to be uncivilized! Absolutely 100% recommend Spencer's on the Square Grazing boards, from their new 'Take Out' menu. An excellent delicious selection.
I believe the Focaccia is from the Saucy Pizza Co, so it's wonderful to be supporting 2 local businesses.
And! You can get take out cocktails too! Sophisticated take out ...perfect!

Was here a long time ago, delicious coffee, but desserts are not so impressive, unfortunately.

Wonderfully decorated within a clean environment.
Female waitresses tucking in their tops and adjusting bras at the side of the bar was a little unnerving however service from the manager was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary meal. We were overcharged and took a month to reply to our email complaint but we would still recommend this restaurant!!

What an amazing place. It not only looks great the staff is really friendly and the food is delicious. We had a nice family celebration. It was great to be together after a long time and Spencer's made it extra special. Thank you very much.❤️

This breakfast was fabulous. It really was such a positive experience :-)
A quiet Sunday morning before some geocaching in the area. Very tasty breakfast with just the best service we could have wanted. A lovely interior fit out and a view across the market square.
We'll definitely return. This is exactly what Retford should be about. 🤩

Absolutely out of this world!
The best dinner, service, drinks me and my partner have had for years and years.
The rib eye steak was cooked to perfection, the best I've had in my life.
Friendly staff with a stunning venue make this the place to go for a great meal.
Thoroughly impressed and will be retuning monthly from now on.
Thank you so much for a beautiful evening guys, we enjoyed it so much.

There is still an upside to lockdown. Just had a Sunday dinner delivered to my door. The quality of the ingredients was excellent. We enjoyed the meal so much we are planning our next order. I would definitely recommend ordering a takeaway, not only is the quality excellent, and the meal was delicious but there was plenty to eat. Restaurant quality food served up in your own home, what a lovely treat.

After New ownership this place has exceeded all expectations. Quick and polite service, amazing food and a lovely atmosphere. The Bar staff (waitress) wasn't quite sure what she was doing in regard to the drinks they had behind the bar but maybe she was just new!

Went for cocktails after a meal out. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff. Some of the drinks weren't made quite to my liking, but I know every bar will do them slightly differently. Still an Overall good experience.

Absolutely wonderful experience to be had at the heart of Retford! Very much hoping to be back soon.

I organised my husbands 90th birthday party for Sunday 6th March. It was attended by 85 family members and dear friends, who were all very pleased with the high standard of food and excellent service. Would recommend this place for your special day.

I can not recommend spencers enough the menu the food the ambiance, the staff, highly trained & professional yet friendly and down to earth , really really made us feel so special my daughter and I … we had brunch there and the food looks and tastes as if it’s out of a top end gourmet magazine! We went twice in one day.
…cocktails are out of this world especially the lemon cheesecake which taste better than any cheesecake I have ever had around the world! Thrice fried chips with truffle and Parmesan for a snack it’s so unique and tasty.
All the staff right up to the manager is as dazzling as the chandeliers, A unique view through what looks to be a large mirror of the chefs in the kitchen made you feel as if you’re on a film set.
Incredibly ..spencers is dog friendly and even has a jar of snacks for your dog and water bowls a plenty, if you are lucky enough to live in Retford this is a real jewel in the crown of the town

Fantastic place and very kind and positive staff. I just had a coffee which was very tasty and locally roasted. The atmosphere and decor is modern yet somehow cosy, despite being a large open space. Would come back more if I lived closer!

Our first visit here, as visiting friends in the area - beautiful decor and nice ambiance, although the service and food was somewhat of a disappointment - I and my friend had steak as a treat which was over cooked and pan fried - not griddled - so was very greasy and not very pleasant to the taste. Very few over cooked chips, 3 cherry tomatoes which were greasy and a tiny bit of mushroom on the top of the steak. We ordered some sauce for the steak, which arrived during the the meal, nit with it, and it was made with cream which I cannot eat and to which we weren't informed of either. The food in our opinion was so over priced for very little on the plate - we asked for olives and bread to share as a starter which was nice, but we waited a long time for that to arrive also. We ordered small glasses of wine to have with our meal which came half way through finishing the meal and one of which was the wrong wine also. Whilst it was a lovely place inside, you really need to up your gain with the service and food side of things here - there are other places around with more value for money, service and good food.

Poor food and service overall - we will not be returning or recommending this to friends and family.
• The Soup of the Day from the Vegan menu came with dairy butter. My partner has a dairy allergy...
• The menu we were given on arrival did not match the menu we received via email when we booked, and was different again to the website menu. The manager then told us those we had seen before were just “examples” despite absolutely no mention of this on the website.
• The Bruschetta was served piping hot on a tiny piece of soggy bread, which is certainly something new to me! It was not worth the £6 we were charged for it.
• The prawn salad which several of our party had was served on stale bread, and with a tiny amount of prawns.
• The Tagliatelle was tasteless and unseasoned. It was returned to the kitchen.
• The BBQ Pulled Pork on the burger was served stone cold.
• The mains arrived over a 15 minute period, meaning some of our party had almost finished whilst others had not yet received their food. Our party was not abnormally sized.
• The table we were given was in fact 4 rectangular tables pushed together (itself not a problem) except for the fact that each table seemed to be a different height, meaning people who had been placed at the ends were on a join, and their plates and drinks could not sit flat. This lip was obscured by a table cloth meaning it was only when a drink fell over that this was noticed.
• The menu stated the Vegan pancake would come with a side of vegetables, which it did not. On querying this, the waitress denied it did, but then brought over what was described as “side vegetables”, which was in fact a salad.
• The live music was extremely loud, and made having a conversation impossible. This was unexpected given it was only about 8:30pm. We mentioned to the staff about the volume, however nothing was noticeably done about it.
Many of these issues were brought to the attention of staff at the time.
It was an exceptionally disappointing meal out for myself and my family.

We visited Spencer’s for my partners birthday meal. I ordered from the vegan menu. Mushroom soup to start which was accompanied by a delicious rosemary bread....unfortunately with DAIRY butter. Needless to say that’s unacceptable, especially as I have a dairy allergy!! Luckily I noticed and didn’t eat it.
Other people had the prawn cocktail which had enormous slices of cucumber and not many prawns, yet on another table they had the same starter which had no cucumber but was full to the brim with prawns! My partner asked for them to make a classic bruschetta to start which staff said was no problem.... he was given a sloppy slice of bread covered in hot tomato sauce. Couldn’t have been further from a bruschetta. I won’t even get started on the mains which were equally as bad including cold pulled pork, sides not appearing, soggy chips, inedible pasta dishes etc. They did take a couple of the dishes off the bill and a couple of drinks but to be honest I don’t feel this was good enough compensation for a bill that was still £190+ for food I could have cooked and presented better myself!! The manager apologised profusely whilst the owner hid behind the bar, I would have thought after being made aware we were having such a bad experience he would have come over to the table and sorted the situation personally. Instead of letting his (very patient and well trained) staff deal with it!
Sort it out Spencer’s, you’re supposed to be one of the best places to eat in Retford! We won’t be returning!

Went with my mum for breakfast, we both really enjoyed it, friendly staff they were very welcoming will definitely be going back highly recommend.

My chicken dish was excellent however the ribeye steak was dry & only just warm. Early evening, not busy, felt staff could have been a little more attentive however really enjoyed the experience, will return.

Went to Spencer's last night for their Burn's night supper. The food was amazing. Service also top notch. Hats off the chef as we were told he is a colonial cousin from across the pond so Scottish cuisine not being his forté.
The only downside? The piper. He played with a tune that can only be described as two stray cats having a rather large disagreement in a dustbin.
If you plan to hold a Burn's night supper every year I would highly recommend the Yorkshire piper as your choice.
With that being said Spencer's is a warm friendly place. Great staff and great food.

Came for a birthday meal with my family and child. Excellent food great service and the Children’s meal was excellent fresh food very reasonably priced

Sadly disappointing. Our 3rd time here. Unfortunately the food was reheated, which was obvious due to the pastry on the tart being chewy, as we're the veg in the risotto. I cook at home and lot so I know when things have been frozen and reheated! And to add to our disappointing meal there was plastic from the tupperware in the risotto . Unfortunately it's put us off returning which is a shame as we've really enjoyed our meal here in the past

Perfectly situated in the square for a cycling cafe stop in beautiful sunshine. Plenty of breakfast menu choice.
Just one minor thing...warnings about outside chairs may be wet to customers would avoid "soggy bums". Overall fab place

Thank you so much to all the staff at Spencer’s for making my 40th birthday party so amazing! The food was gorgeous, the staff were brilliant and worked so hard. A perfect night, I can’t thank you all enough

We popped in for dinner on Saturday. Placed our order for drinks which came quite quickly; the mains however took an age to come out. At least 45 mins and it wasn't even busy. I had the luxury coz in batter and it wasn't very big and the chips weren't very warm. My partners 100% beef burger looked like it had been cooked all weekend although the homemade onion rings were magnificent. Overpriced but ok for a one off

First dining at Spencer's, I went with my partner, my 3 year old daughter and new born on Sunday afternoon for dinner. The staff were very friendly and were really good with my daughter as she is very chatty with everyone she meets.
The meals were absolutely delicious and very good portion sizes too.
Tracey Louise Peam
My first time at the venue last night for a colleague's leaving do and it was a great night. The cocktails were fab and the meal we had was very good. Must add that I feel the main courses should be served with vegetables instead of having to pay extra as a side dish!
Staff and atmosphere was really good. Will definitely go back.

A warm welcome as we walked in.
Great service and superb food.
So lucky to have found this place on our journey from York to Peterborough.
