Food and atmosphere were amazing. Service was good but they forgot to bring our teas with the afternoon tea menu, which I was not expecting from a place like this. I took my family who was visiting for the afternoon tea and they truly enjoyed it (including two kids aged 9-10). We all got afternoon tea menus and each bite was an experience. The place is lovely as well and you can spend some times going through the plants shop and lifestyle shop as well. Perfect lunch plan if you are going to Richmond park for a stroll before! Will definitely come back again soon!

Fabulous experience. The staff were efficient and friendly, the food was excellent, and the menu offered choices that were delightful. Definitely worth making a special day of it and having a nice lunch. Make sure to allow plenty of time to browse all of the garden and home goods shops. Very tempting selections from which to choose.

I have to admit, I’ve sort of become accustomed to going to restaurants with good reputations expecting to be disappointed- they so often fail to live up the the hype. This absolutely is not the case with Petersham Nursery Restaurant- lunch today was superb.
The food was superb - dishes were each a little bit different, without trying to be too clever. Service was excellent - welcoming without being too fussy. And the setting was lovely (helped by a wonderful late summer day).
We last went here almost 10 years ago, when it was just starting to build its reputation - I’m now sorry we didn’t go back sooner.
For once, a restaurant with an great reputation exceeded my expectations!

One of my favourite places in the world! Beautiful decor, lovely staff and the food is delicious. I had a better experience eating here during the week than at the weekend (it was very busy and we had to chase several times).

Petersham Nurseries Restaurant is a romantic place for afternoon fun in Richmond. The food is a bit overpriced, limited choose in the menu, you can only select two courses for £55 or £65 for three courses. vegetable salad fish are quite fresh and cooked to a good standard, highly recommended.

We came here for a weekday lunch, and it was surprisingly busy - always book ahead to avoid disappointment. The location is delightful - a short walk across grassy fields from the Thames - as is the setting, in a bohemianly decorated greenhouse, within the grounds of a gorgeous plant nursery - we also left with lots of plants. The food was very nice, but expensive for what we got - perhaps to be expected when there is such high demand. Service was mostly good.

Beautiful place for a special occasion. Fantastic sommelier! But it can be tricky to get waiter's attention. Food was fresh and really good but it arrived lukewarm to the table. We ordered desserts and cocktails at the same time but received cocktails 15minutes after we had already finished our desserts... On our final bill we have been charged for 3 cocktails instead of 2, which was swiftly fixed by waiter. In overall- nice place to go for a meal but service is not worth 13.5%... with this price tag service should be impeccable. Been to places with the same price tag but much better service
Yaya Thanks
Anyone who gives anything less than 5 stars to any aspect of this place is a pinnacle hater who will die alone due to being unlovable because of their hate.
The food is literally gourmet...with fish fresh from the ocean (which is very rare in London) and all vegetables literally grown on sight in the nursery (it's a plant nursery). Honestly can't fault the food.
The service is fantastic, a special mention to mediterranean Samuel who took care of my family for my old man's 70th birthday, which was pulled off brilliantly.
And the ambiance is incredible as it's in a beautiful garden. In the summer this is as good as it gets, honestly. And even when the weather is colder there's a greenhouse to use instead which is nicely decorated.

Early dinner on a warm Thursday evening. Arrived early to enjoy the quiet hum of the waterfountain surrounded by beautiful plants from the nursery. Incredible menu with fabulous starters, freshest of tomatoes and ricotta, succulent chicken and the fluffiest of cheesecake. Fabulous and friendly service.

Beautiful place to wander through. Lovely pretty space, selling garden and house plants, plus items and gifts for the home.
The café & restaurants were extremely overpriced.

A must try in Richmond. The setting is phenomenal. It’s a bit of a paradise you need to find by walking through fields.
The atmosphere is rustic but elegant. The cockatails were all excellent. We sampled a wide variety including piscina sour, old fashioned and espresso martinis.
The menu is stunning with some very nice dishes. Some of the execution was a bit off (our duck was cooked pink in the middle but not enough rendering of the fat) and the seasoning wasn’t quite right for our taste but nothing outrageous.
The best part of our meal was the gem lettuce appetizer, the tomato pasta and the chocolate fondant. Maybe one of the best fondants we ever had.

Dinner for two on a Friday night. An unusual location in a greenhouse with an earth floor. Despite the prices not particularly one to dress up for.
The food is as you would expect excellent. Though I have had similar quality for less.
We were on the first sitting and initially appreciated the setting. However as it filled up and the wine began to flow it became very rowdy and noisy. More like a pub. , Conversation became very difficult.
Not sure if we will be back.

Very nice ambience if you like pants and flowers. It’s a very typical country side feel. The food is ok, tortellini was amazing but beef not so much.
The lady at the entrance is exceptionally good. Thank you for looking after us.

I went with a friend for a light lunch, cake and coffee. The cafe was bustling and atmospheric and it felt really special. The food was tasty and the flourless almond and orange cake was delicious as always. Great flat white! Small and strong! Danielle, the manager, and all the staff were completely lovely. Thank you Danielle for a lunch to remember. After lunch, we browsed the shop and my friend bought a beautiful large chrysanthemum. We walked back home through Richmond Park. A perfect outing!

Not the cheapest cafe eats (however everything seems to be expensive these days) but they delivered on the quality. Lovely food and serivce was attentive. Had the Welsh rarebit - hot to table and the chutney tasted fab. Was very busy - dont think they take bookings. Would go again.

The food was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is lovely! The place is kinds friendly as well. Highly recommend. But book in advance as there no chance for walking ins.

Great place to visit, had great food and bought a few plants , fabulous place, highly recommend, other forms of transport recommended to get there as not much room to park

Beautiful food and excellent service let down by poor facilities. When I am spending over £70 per head I don’t expect to queue for the toilet with all of the garden centre visitors too! Wild turbot was incredible and the waiters knowledge of the menu excellent

This is a very stylish and special place, we had a great dinner and staff are lovely - if you can’t get to Richmond try the new place in Covent Garden.

I visited last month on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The nursery seems to be of lesser importance than the gift shop, however it was still well stocked and the plants looked healthy and cared for.I wasn't able to eat lunch in the restaurant as it was fully booked and resorted instead to a good cup of coffee and cake eaten outside,The ambience in the greenhouse is very special being festooned in greenery and flowers with sunshine trying to peak through the slatted shades. The menu also read as if they used locally sourced seasonal produce... and, if the plates that went out to the lucky diners were anything to go by- I will have to return for dinner booking well in advance. Definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful place. And food is outstanding ... guaranteed to leave with a plant or two after a cheeky glass of vino with lunch

Fab place, lovely coffee and delicious cakes. One criticism, staff in the cafe could be more organised but on the whole a charming place to while away a few hours on a sunny day.

We had a superb meal in beautiful surroundings. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. It was a beautiful day, so felt like being abroad! This isn't a cheap place to eat or drink but all in all a great experience.

We had lunch there, 3 chicken salads they were very expensive and the chicken had gristle on it! We also had a carafe of elderflower water that cost £8 and on top of that the staff werent that friendly either! I shall tell my friends about my visit Very disappointed Elaine Richards

Walking through Richmond Park got talking to a father cycling with two young sons. They had stopped to look at some wild 😜 Deer. He recommended that I have coffee and cake at Petersham Nursery Café. I was very satisfied with the choice of cakes, the quality of the coffee, the quality and attitude of the staff and the surroundings where I sat and enjoyed a break from my morning walk.

Lovely setting but food and service was mediocre. Definitely not worth a 12.5% service charge! Would visit again but only if I was passing through the area

Lovely lunch at Petersham Nurseries again . Absolutely gorgeous ambience paired with delicious food and impeccable service. Thank you !!

Love this place. Gorgeous setting. Food is pricey but usually rich in taste and flavours. Makes a fantastic lunch or dinner date venue, good place for kids at lunch too. I’ve done the supper club in the past as well as lunch on several occasions but always in the summer. I’m sure it’s stunning in the winter too!

What a gorgeous restaurant situated in a glasshouse. Make sure to book ahead because petershams nurseries is pop-u-lar. If you miss out on a table in the restaurant there is a tea & cake room too. The complimentary snacks of vegetables from the garden and fresh bread was lovely. The chicken was succulent and juicy. The cheese to round everything off was perfect. Great service. Beautiful location. After lunch wandering around the various nursery glasshouses is a great finish.

Loved this place! The perfect place to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon! I really enjoyed that dogs were welcomed (and almost encouraged). We got the lemon poppy seed cake and the chocolate cake as well as a pot of the peter sham blend. I will definitely be stopping by the next time I am in London.

When the Great Fire of London of 1666 broke out the one thing the great diarist Samuel Pepys wanted to save was his Parmesan cheese. Parmesan is, of course, an anglicisation of Parmigiano Reggiano P.D.O. (though they didn’t have the protected P.D.O status in Pepys’ day), the wonderful cheese that is the root of Italian cooking.

Petersham Nurseries. Remember that? Of course you do. You’ll probably be remembering its glory days, under Skye Gyngell, when it had a Michelin star and everyone went on about how expensive it was. I never really fancied it then, I’m not sure why. Perhaps it was the airy-fairiness of it, or the worry that I was going to have to trek across London to feel short-changed. It didn’t speak to me.

The rather wonderful Petersham Nurseries has been on my hit list for as long as I remember however never quite finding the time to book or, for that matter, get in! I had put it in the back of my mind to try next summer.<br/><br/>Luckily for me my Maid of Honour blocked out a Sunday and managed to bag two spots in the main restaurant. After a browse through the stunning shop and totalling up that I probably spent around £10k in around 5 seconds on gorgeous pieces of furniture (in my head) it was time for lunch.<br/><br/>Both cafe and restaurant are housed in beautiful Victorian glasshouses and are completely full to the ceiling of flora and fauna - it is a rather magical place to be, especially this time of year where twinkling Christmas lights are entwined throughout the climbing plants and branches. <br/><br/>The simple menu has around 6 starters and the same for mains. All seasonal, all local sustainable ingredients and all incredibly tempting. The emphasis here is showing the ingredients off in the best possible way. Many dishes have only 3 or 4 elements to them. It's simple cooking at Michelin standards and completely my kind of food...colourful, fresh and the type of food which makes you content with each mouthful...<br/><br/>Starter of Burrata, Autumn pumpkins, hazelnuts, cavolo nero tips, oregano and chilli. Dressed simply in olive oil - delicious. <br/><br/>With the cold Autumnal air outside there was one thing on the menu I knew would warm me right up 'Fish stew'. Abundant with clams, red mullet, mussels and garlic bruschetta. Served with a good dollop of a punchy Aioli it really hit the spot and was a wonderful bowl, full of goodness.<br/><br/>I absolutely loved it here and left with a beaming smile and a warm feeling of content. A really special little place where you can leave your London head behind and completely immerse yourself into a totally different world. Go early doors, have a good old romantic wander down the river, take in the cold crisp air and work up a good appetite. A place never to be missed and one that is now firmly at the top of my favourites list.

If based on beauty alone I would give this place 5 stars. A charming, dog friendly, "secret garden" affair, rustic and unfussy; a fairytale where nature supersedes. <br/><br/>You can't help but be taken aback by the encapsulating branch arches overhead, the wildly growing foliage and curated potted plants; a bazaar for mother nature!<br/><br/>We decided to sit in the outdoor cafe where you have to collect your food, a selection of relatively healthy dishes and mainly salad based. <br/><br/>We ordered the fried chicken on salad which was cold and average at best (4/10), cold pasta salad with grains (7/10), tomato salad which was extremely plain (5/10) and a poached egg salad with unfortunately pre poached eggs (6/10). <br/><br/>It was a light feast and though nothing spectacular I would definitely come back to try the main restaurant and perhaps enjoy a coffee with my dog enroute to Richmond Park.<br/><br/>A lovely day out and on this occasion the setting certainly saved the food; if it was better it would definitely be receiving full marks from me.<br/><br/>

Overall we had a relaxed and happy afternoon at Petersham Nurseries. We observed that the concept of the business seems to be working very well. The setting, creation of atmosphere, presentation and flavours are sincere and create a destination. The service is friendly and attentive. It was also charming to see the staff wearing colourful gumboots!

Last Saturday I took a trip to one of my favourite areas of London – the picturesque Richmond Upon Thames. This little corner of the city by the water has long been a favourite of mine since I first went for a job interview there on my second day in the UK. For those who haven’t been to Richmond, let me paint the picture for you. It’s like a quaint village, home to yummy mummy’s who push strollers by the river, young couples with adorable dogs and a rather prominent rowing community. Not to mention it has a great many parks (one of which has live deer!) and a range of waterfront pubs perfect for sunset drinks. Just past the centre of town you’ll find Petersham Nursery. I’d heard the whisper go round about this place not long after I moved here and I’d been wanting to go ever since. Saturday was the day – along with my friend and her mum (who’s visiting from Australia), we set off with grumbling tummies, ready for a lunch among the flowers. Leather Jacket by River Island £100, Knit by River Island (sold out), Jeans by Billabong £50, Bag by Bershka £20 Off the main road up a little alley and past some cow paddocks you’ll find the entrance. The nursery of flowers blooms around the border whilst the restaurant and café are housed in the centre in rustic-chic barns. I had quiche, salad and a sparkling elderflower (so British!), made extra nice by the fact that I was sitting in a greenhouse. After lunch we took a stroll around the gardens and found ourselves in a delightful little home wares store, where I could have easily purchased half the shop (provided I had a very generous wage). Then we headed for the town centre, walking along by the river before stopping for an ice-cream. On the way, we lay down in a field of daisies and danced amongst the fallen petals of the cherry blossoms. A cheerful fellow had his boat moored just as we strolled past and we were right on time for the 5.15pm trip – why not!? A short trip down to Teddington finished a wonderful day in this bea

Almost Perfect. My partner and I ate here a couple of weekends ago on a crisp Saturday in early January.<br/>Though a little surprised at the price, this soon gave way to delight as the food was quite sensational. <br/>I opted for a crab salad, whilst she had a roasted squash with tomato, chickpea and other sides. Described as 'the best vegetarian main dish' she's ever eaten - and with five years of no meat that is no small feat.<br/>My crab was wonderful, with an unusual but perfectly judged winter leave selection. A high volume of crab meat further enhanced my opinion.<br/>Best intentions meant no alcohol in the new year, so we instead shared a pitcher of their elder-flower cordial, fizzy, refreshing and again wonderful.<br/>Very much looking forward to the next visit, the service was spot on, the dining room delightfully different, and the food deserving of it's Michelin star.

Petersham Nurseries in Richmond is a unique place – not only do they sell plants, dining & kitchen ware but it’s also home of a fabulous restaurant. All this is down in Surrey, south of London. Earlier on this year chef Skye Gyngell who brought the restaurant a Michelin star has quit her job and is now replaced with the Australian chef Greg Malouf. Anyhow we headed down to Richmond on the Jubilee Bank hol’ weekend and had a fabulous relaxed lunch. Petersham Nurseries: Food Impressions . As for the interior there is to say that the setting is simply beautiful as you’re sitting in a conservatory with earthen floor, mix matched furniture and of course, loads of roses, flowers and greens. The food at the Petersham Nurseries Cafe is exactly the kind of food I would be happy to eat every week, but the experience we had was slightly blemished by the sloppy service. I would expect this was a one off though. It hasn't put me off returning or from recommending it as a place to seek out and that is down to the skill of the new man at the helm.

Petersham Nurseries is the ideal place to go on a summer day. Take a day out to visit Richmond park and have lunch at the relaxing greenhouse with top quality British food cooked using seasonal ingredients mostly grew in house at Petersham Nurseries.

Petersham Nurseries Cafe was, at first, an experiment of a communal table dining but it has grown into a size of (half) a greenhouse. The place, situated between my home and my university's main campus, surely attracted my attention. And, there I went, with not much expectation. But, I did not expect THIS! Petersham Nurseries Cafe is an odd place. On arrival, I could not tell apart the greenhouse,

My next course was quail with black rice and a green bean salad. The quail itself was cooked nicely and had decent flavour, but the quail itself was not of an especially high standard. The rice was fine but the dressing with the green bean salad was badly unbalanced, too much vinegar in proportion to the oil

It was with much anticipation when we made a booking for lunch at the Petersham Nurseries Cafe. I've read many things about the nursery and cafe. The cafe is headed up by chef Skye Gyngell, an Aussie, who helped get the cafe its first Michelin star. I've also seen many photos of the nursery in foodie magazines - the gorgeous flowers and design. The nursery is located in the upper-middle class suburb of Richmond. The thing that struck me about the place was that there was a mix of the down-to-earth gardeners that worked there, a good dollop of the insufferable Prudes and Trudes (if you've watched Kath and Kim, you'll know what I mean) and a sprinkling of the fashionably 'bright young things'. The nursery is absolutely gorgeous and stunningly designed. It's a pity that I'm not a skilled photographer - you could spend the whole day there taking photos. The nursery has a teahouse, which doesn't require a booking. It's mostly cakes and light meals (quiches, sandwiches, etc). Tables and chai

I decided to invite my mother to Petersham Nurseries for her birthday. A sixty-year-old French woman, who enjoys gardening and sophisticated food, couldn’t possibly be indifferent to this place (nor could anyone else).<br/><br/>Not to sure of my mother’s schedule, I had to change my booking three times and each phone call to the restaurant was extremely pleasant. I was definitely looking forward to this lunch.<br/><br/>Once there, we were completely stunned by its beauty. We walked into the restaurant with a huge smile on our faces and a lovely hostess welcomed us and brought us to our table. This place felt like a childhood dream where you are being looked after by a young and friendly group of people. <br/><br/>I ordered the partridge with leek and pancetta and my mother went for the vegetarian tagine, with a side of beans. I loved the menu’s mix of English and Oriental influences: a good match with the dreamy “Secret Garden” settings. <br/><br/>When our food arrived, 15 minutes later, we first felt that it met the restaurant’s standards. The presentation was simple yet elegant. Unfortunately my mother’s tagine was very spicy and it became hard to appreciate its flavours. We were surprised as it wasn’t mentioned on the menu and Moroccan cuisine is not known to be spicy. As for my dish, the whole combination of different meats and vegetable was delicious. Only down side, the partridge was still bloody and raw near the bone. <br/><br/>We kindly informed our waiter, who was very professional, apologized and asked if we wanted tea or coffee on the house. We thanked him, asked for the bill and he came back without charging the side dish. <br/><br/> <br/><br/>These culinary “faux pas” were a real shame as they made me think the food was slightly overpriced. Never the less, I would most probably come back if I ever have to impress someone for its décor!

There was no head chef in the kitchen tonight, and whether as a direct consequence or otherwise we experienced a much more erratic meal than on our previous visits. My starter of salt beef on sourdough toast with mushroom duxelle was fine, an unusual dish which had a crispy poached egg that provided a comforting match to the beef and pickles (4/10). By contrast, potted shrimps were tasteless, the pickled cucumber in particular lacking enough sourness, the lobster butter flavour lost; the layer of crème fraiche with dill hardly contributed to the dish (barely 3/10).<br/><br/> My John Dory was the best dish of the night, seared and served with ham hock, nicely caramelised onions, Savoy cabbage, puy lentils and mustard yoghurt. Although there was a lot going on in this dish it all came together well, the mustard lifting the dish and working well with the ham hock, the fish nicely cooked (5/10). Dover sole is a very simple dish so lives or dies by the sourcing of the fish and the accuracy of the cooking. At its best it has superb flavour, but this particular fish was oddly tasteless, and although cooked through it had a rather limp texture, as if it had been kept too long before serving (2/10).<br/><br/>Desserts were on more solid ground. Apple tart had reasonable pastry and the apple had the right degree of sharpness, though the caramel ice cream lacked flavour (4/10). Crème brulee was also fine, the topping nicely crisp, the vanilla flavour coming through well, the texture not too runny (4/10). <br/><br/>The bill came to £108 a head, albeit with some quite good wine. If you drank a modest wine then the bill would come to around £80 a head all in. Service tonight was fine, a little old-fashioned but in a perfectly nice way, and they topped up our wine very capably. The problem was that there were two sides to the kitchen on display, one considerably more capable than the other, and at this price point such inconsistency is not on. I am not sure whether the chef being absent made a big difference, but it cannot have helped. I have reduced the score by a point, but even that is a little kind based on the average cooking level tonight.

This weekend, we went to Petersham Nurseries. The nursery is tucked away in the corner of Richmond Park and is filled with a stunning array of flowers. In the middle of the nursery, is the glass Teahouse. The glass house is filled with french furniture and gorgeous bouquets with tables sitting on exposed dirt, very rustic-chic.<br/><br/>I had the best seat in the house, and watched the chef prepare the incredible Italian-inspired dishes. We pored over the menu, and eventually made our decisions.<br/>To start: Torn bread, Chorizo, Merinda tomatoes, and Romesco sauce<br/>Main: Halibut Acqua Pazz with Rocket & Aioli<br/>Dessert: Chocolate and Almond cake with Jersey Cream & Pedro Ximenez and Fresh Mango Sorbet<br/><br/>Everything was fresh and beautiful, but the Mango sorbet was absolutely outstanding.<br/><br/>This is the perfect place for a date. It’s first-come, first-serve and parking is incredibly limited. I’d suggest taking a walk across the park and arriving early to ensure you get a spot. If there’s a wait, you can wander the nursery and choose some plants to take home.

Quail in mountain bread, kibbeh (Lebanese steak tartare), pigeon pie, ricotta on toast, scallops in their shell, burrata, prosecco with crystalised rose petals, all of their sorbets. It is a beautiful, beautiful setting - all the dishes come accessorized with petals from the <br/>nursery's flowers. Greg Malouf is extremely talented and the menu's nod towards the Middle East means strong flavours but the European influence (the site is owned by an Italian family) and rustic English setting means the dishes are elegantly presented and not too rich or heavy. <br/> <br/>Great date spot (supppper romantic - especially in winter when you have to wrap up and the walls of the greenhouse kind of steam up but don't go if you're not sure about your date otherwise the journey home might be a little long/torturous) or for a small, girls lunch (I'd recommend a table for no more than 4). <br/> <br/>There is a much more informal cafe in the parallel greenhouse which I am looking to try soon - I've seen it offers gorgeous salads, pastas and cakes - probably the best place I can think of taking your Grandma for lunch/tea (if she's stable enough for uncomfortable chairs). If it's a nice day Richmond Park is next door for a walk - think it's really nice to go for an hour's stroll before lunch to build up an appetite.
