Tasty food. I recommend the grits, they're quite unique. The biscuits are usually very good if a little understated, like the sweet potato biscuit. Lastly, I would try whatever handcrafted soda they have at the moment, very good.

Vegan Quinoa bowl. Fresh arugula, quinoa, curried chickpeas (#allergygirl had them substituted for plain chick peas), crasians, almonds and house made pita chips. A delicious pomegranate vinaigrette. I added a sweet potato biscuit and it did not disappoint. The only improvement would have been if it had been served warm. The pita chips were a bit over powering. They didn’t complement the delicious flavors in the bowl. So I crushed them up for a more subtle garlic zing. Of course I got a hot tea. My original reason for searching this place out. They have stock tea... nothing special but they have some pretty amazing liquid simple sugars ( vanilla and sugar cookie) and ALMOND milk!!! If you are near it worth a stop!!

Awesome breakfast spot. Every single one of the breakfast options are delicious. Great biscuits, super thick cut bacon, love it. The City Ham biscuit is my favorite. The Classic Breakfast biscuit is Freddie Mercury's favorite (my dog). Service is always quick and staff are super friendly.

I stopped in for a quick breakfast before work and was nicely surprised by this modestly appointed bakery-cafe. The house specialty is biscuits - they offer them in four varieties - and sandwiches built on them. I enjoyed their rendition of the Classic Breakfast Biscuit with crispy house bacon, fluffy scrambled eggs, and tantalizingly melty cheddar cheese. I swapped out the standard buttermilk biscuit for the zippy version with peppercorn and chive and added a healthy slice of ripe tomato. For a few dollars more, I added a side of fresh fruit and a rich cup of locally roasted coffee. Everything was top notch, and it was obvious that they take pride in crafting everything they offer. In addition to the sublime biscuits, Root Stock offers a number of Southern standard breakfast plates, thoughtfully composed lunch sandwiches, fresh salads, and house-baked sweets. I'll definitely be back for that Country Club! The ambience is dressed down with a touch of Country flair, and the counter-service setup is equally casual. Although this means guests are asked to gather their own napkins and bus their own tables, it helps keep the prices reasonable, and my filling, hand-made breakfast and satisfying cup of coffee came to just $12, including tax and gratuity. In all, this cozy eatery and bakery is an asset to The Bottom, one of Richmond's neighborhoods on the rise, and I look forward to supporting it for a long time to come. These folks are doing it right and setting a GREAT example for what a locally owned Richmond food and beverage establishment should be!

Stop by and build your own biscuit. Honestly for the fresh ingredients and house made biscuits, the price is totally worth it. Biscuit sandwiches are huge; my buttermilk, folded egg, avocado & tomato biscuit was $5.50 not including tax—but it’s so damn good and fills you up. They have plenty of other food options for breakfast & lunch and their dessert is killer. Their on-tap nitro coffee is local (Rostov’s I believe?) and delicious. Atmosphere is open and bright. The folks who work here have a very calm demeanor and are very friendly.

It had been a long week and work and the team needed some comfort food. I called up Root Stock and James had many suggestions. For our needs biscuits hit the spot. 3 dozen a mix of buttermilk, sweet potato, vegan and sweet (chocolate). With homemade strawberry/citrus jam and fresh butter. Yumm.... Everyone agreed best biscuits ever. The next week the request was for more biscuits. So we may have established biscuit Thursday. Thank you Root Stock and looking forward to exploring the rest of your menu especially with spring coming. Good to have a place downtown with excellent vegan options.

In search of somewhere new for breakfast we decided on Root Stock Provisions. We were quickly welcomed by Amy as soon as we walked in. I opted for the shrimp and grits, which were cooked perfectly had really good flavor. The Mrs. got the root stock breakfast. She enjoyed it, and of course I had to taste it as well. Shaun (I hope I spelled his name correctly) who brought our food out after he cooked it, was very friendly. Their biscuits are made there, and my wife's plate came with a buttermilk biscuit. She liked it so much that we purchased a half dozen to take home.(you can mix them up). I also couldn't leave without getting a piece of their maple bacon coffee cake. I was too full to try it, so that will be saved for later. I'm sure it will be as good as it looks! With all of that said I will definitely go back.

The biscuits and gravy were very good except they were not quite a hot as I wished when they came out, it was almost Luke-warm, but it still tasted great. The location was really fun and they are open 7a-7p everyday.
