I can thoroughly recommend this local hostelry which is located on a quiet lane a few minutes walk from Richmond town centre. I had an excellent pint and a reasonable price in comfortable surroundings.

I have been to this beautiful little pub a number of times over the years and really is one of Richmond's little hidden gems and grown to be one of my favs! The food is amazing. The cute cosy decor of the pub is just lovely. The hidden beer garden out the back is stunning. It was a no brainier that this were we wanted to have our Christmas party! which we did last night. We are a fairly large group so was seated in the private function room upstairs which is gorgeous! Thank you so much to the wonderful staff, the service we received was outstanding! I will definitely be back!

Finally visited this pub after walking past it a million times! Had arranged a date in Richmond and took the opportunity to have lunch and enjoy the September sunshine. From the outside the pub looks so tiny, and has always intrigued me as I’ve walked past it on my way too/from work. Upon arriving we walked through the bar area out into the rear garden, that is a hidden gem, lots of tables some in the shade some in the sun, Lots of plants and little seating areas. We choose a table in the shade, having been badly burnt before I am a sun dodger! A member of staff soon approached us, took our drinks order, returned with menus and (free) tap water (something us English are terrible at, yet America has the provision of tap water down to a T!) the water was brought out without us having to ask for water. I ordered the goats cheese, beetroot, sun dried tomatoes and olive salad, my date had the muscles and bread dish. Both dishes came in starter or main sizes and we choose the main size. My salad was amazing although it had olives, I just ate around those! I believe the muscles were also yummy they soon vanished! We both cleared our plates (aside from the olives!) Pudding we ordered the summer mess, I believe it is call that, it was like Eton mess but slightly different. We ordered one to share, the staff we accommodating on providing two spoons and one dish. Some places get funny about sharing a dish! The pudding wasn’t as nice as expected, it could have done with more meringue (is that how you spell the white crunchy stuff made from egg whites) aside from that it was nice and we cleared the plate. The fruit in the dish was very good with strong fruity flavours, unlike some fruit looks good but tastes bland. I would definitely recommend checking out this gem of a pub, I can imagine it will be very cosy in the winter as well as a fantastic summer pub. All the staff were friendly, helpful and approachable. I really enjoyed my visit to your pub, thank you.

Returned on the weekend of the Richmond Marathon to one of our old haunts and was not let down - The food was fantastic and from starters to roasts and whilst the service seemed to suffer slightly just with the sheer numbers of a beautiful day it was still very wanr and friendly. Won't leave it so long to be back next time - the only downside was the pub dog was on a day off -

I came here with my girlfriend for Sunday lunch a few weeks ago and before we came we booked a table given our experience of Sunday lunch elsewhere and the increasing popularity/demand. My girlfriend had been here before whereas for me it was my first time and both of us were very impressed as the location was away from the main park in Richmond and the area was very quaint as is Richmond itself. When we arrived the pub was not too busy but we did see a few other guests including families having meals too. The food we chose I had the lamb and my girlfriend had the beef and my only criticism was there was no Yorkshire pudding with the lamb but I could have had one if I had paid extra. As for the meat this was also a little raw and fatty and a little tough to cut even with a proper knife for both meats. The food was well presented; the table was clean as was the cutlery. The waitress (whose name I don’t know) was polite, professional and attentive to us and made us feel welcome but sadly if not disappointingly nobody came to see if we were OK and ask how the food was and due to the demand that the pub/dining area was a lot busier than when we arrived we did not see the waitress to thank her or speak to her about the food but there was plenty and when we asked for more horseradish and mint sauce we got plenty without question. Before leaving both my girlfriend and I both went to the toilets and my girlfriend said the ladies was clean including the cubicle, the floor, the sink, the mirror and there was some soap. The gents was the same but I did see some loose toilet paper on the floor by the main urinals which made the area look a little untidy and one of the toilets had not been flushed properly and I flushed the contents down the toilet and there was no lingering smells or items in the toilet for other men to see or smell. All in all both my girlfriend and I were very impressed least not with our meal we drank tap water as it was very warm and the tap water came in bottles and had been in the fridge which meant it was cold and we also had some ice with the water to keep it cold in our glasses. I think it is fair to say both girlfriend and I will be back at some point and whilst we are not sure when we both hope it will be soon and for some more good food and good service.

Staying in Twickenham for a few days we looked at menus for all the pubs on the riverfront at Richmond, and strolled down Old Palace Lane when we saw the sign for The White Swan from the towpath. Really glad we did. The menu was far more inventive than others we'd seen, and maybe because it's not smack on the river, seemed better value. The Thai salad starter is very tasty. Prawns in filo more standard. Both mains - chicken and bacon pie and roasted chicken with wild mushrooms and cavolo nero were excellent. So much so we decided we'd return next evening and try a dessert - and the evening after when our daughter joined us. Excellent food throughout (except the beautifully cooked cod loin should have crispy skin if it's left on the fish). The tonka bean and orange panna cotta with crispy brandy snap is brilliant. Wines were excellent quality at a reasonable price. The Papa Figos Portuguese red particularly. Best of all is the front of house service. Just the right tone of friendliness and engagement.

Such a fantastic pub. Great for a drink or a meal. I have lived in Richmond twice in short stints, last winter for a few months and then again this summer. It’s a cozy pub with a great atmosphere in the winter and in the summer the front doors are open and it’s a real locals pub for everyone and surprising light inside. The river is 100m down the lane and Richmond green is a stones throw away. Food is great not sure why it has had a couple of negative reviews. I had the lamb chump to start and the goats cheese to follow (wasn’t feeling conventional and had a main as a starter and a starter as a main) washed down with a glass of fairly priced Pinot noir. I remember having the sausages and the beef on previous visits in the winter and both hit the spot. Bar staff and waiters are very friendly and accommodating, I had not booked on a Friday eve and they found a lovely table. Added bonus of good selection of at least 3 draught bitters.

We'd seen some good reviews so thought we'd check it out. Menu looks interesting (different to the one online), and service is good. Starter salad was fab, and the bread was unusual and fresh - so many places fall down even on that. But mains weren't so good - my aubergine dish could have been delicious but it was so drenched in oil it was hard to eat... and sadly left me feeling rather off-colour as a result. Pleasant enough, but won't be returning.

We visited at the bank holiday and hadn’t booked and it became clear that the kitchen simply can’t cope in a timely manner on busy days and the management should be very grateful for the charm of their primarily female staff. When I mentioned to a waiter that we were still waiting, he told me that this was because priority is given to those who prebook their tables. (Something we were not told). That said the food was delicious. The chicken liver pate was excellent as was the mackerel pate - though the latter just came with three thin croutons and I was then charged 50p when I asked for a slice of toast. Sticky toffee pud also recommended. I will revisit but probably not on a bank holiday and I also suggest you book in advance.

Sunday lunch, excellent service from friendly staff. Took a table upstairs which is actually much better than downstairs (very busy at the weekends). Good selection of wine and Sunday lunches. Fast and attentive service in a quiet location within a lovely historic part of Richmond. Probably need to book on a Sunday, nice small beer garden out the back.

I really enjoyed the sea bass with the baby potatoes, the beer was very chilled and ambience very calming and relaxing. But the French waiter upstairs was quite arrogant. Would like to try their bangers and mash as I saw it being served and it looked really nice.

My wife and I were meeting friends for lunch and a catch-up. It was through the researches of our friends that we ended up in this wonderful venue. A little off the beaten track but still very close to Richmond town centre, so easily accessible and a beautiful location close to the Thames towpath. What a find! It was obvious from the 'Reserved' signs on many of the tables that booking is well and truly recommended, if not essential. We had a wonderful time and can certainly recommend The White Swan. Staff were courteous, friendly and attentive. Good selection of wines and beers, and the menu choices were more than adequate. The food we ordered was tasty and in ample proportions. Across the four of us we tasted starters, mains and desserts. All excellent! We shall definitely be back! Looking forward to our next visit already.
