Review The Spread Eagle - Rolleston on Dove

We booked a family birthday celebration meal for 15 people. We booked last minute as we couldn't find anywhere to go for food and have had lovely meals in the past here. We were very impressed at how organised they were when it came to getting all of us seated within the establishment. After ordering our food there was a slight delay but with the amount of guests and how busy it was we expected to wait a little while. The staff were lovely and friendly and our food arrived piping hot for every guest. We will definitely be back for more meals in the future.

My husband and I visited today for Sunday lunch for the first time in many years. The quaint ambiance was still very much there as one would expect from a pub which has been around for centuries. It is nice that, in 2023, there are still some more old-fashioned British pubs around. The service was very good and friendly. Whilst neither of us ordered the Sunday roast, it was really refreshing to see that the Sunday roast was being served with a gravy jug on the side. My husband’s Hunter’s Chicken and chips were, to quote him, “the best that I have ever had and the bbq sauce was homemade and better than the ‘Heinz’ type”. The only negative point with my husband’s meal was the lack of vegetables or a salad, this, we now think, would have been required to be ordered separately and at extra expense. My chicken salad was delicious though, when it was initially brought to the table, the chicken had been forgotten but the lady serving us rectified the issue very swiftly. It was nice to be served a tiny piece of flapjack, instead of the usual biscuit in a plastic wrapper, with my after-lunch cappuccino.

The food was simply lovely. A fab Sunday lunch, nice ambience, comfortable and we really enjoyed ourselves. The service was slow but actually on this occasion suited us as we're killing time before a visit to Barton Marina. It took 2 hours for us to order and eat 2 courses, but this didn't stop us loving our visit. If we had been in more of a hurry it may have been more of an issue.

We had for starters, slow-roasted Tomato Arancini it was a little bland but the main course Aubergine Parmigiana was gorgeous. We opted for a bottle of prosecco that needed to be chilled more, it arrived with no glasses! Other than that it was a lovely evening.

Came here with family and enjoyed beautiful food at a reasonable cost. They cater well for children with the colouring menus and crayons. Highly recommend

9 of us went for Sunday lunch today for a 30th birthday. The food was absolutely excellent. Possibly the best sirloin of beef I've ever tasted. Everyone really enjoyed their food whether that was a Sunday roast or something off the main menu. The staff are so good at their job. Very professional, attentive and always on hand if we needed anything. The Manager and Head Chef came out to wish my stepdaughter a happy 30th which was extremely thoughtful. Will be booking again next month.

Lovely place to eat in a nice village location. Car park can be tight ... parked roadside instead, but you may be lucky and get a space. Shows it's popular. Waitress very patient with us. Not the cheapest place for Sunday lunch but that wouldn't put me off going again as it was very tasty. Quite happy to pay for quality.

[Short Review] A nice pub, pleasant staff and decent food. The price is moderate, but it's a nice time out with decent decor and good food. 4/5 I will definitely be going back again and have been there a few times before in the past with family. [Longer Review] [Location] Situated in a lovely old town of Rolleston on Dove. There is plenty of car parking. But the place is popular so it often fills up. 10/10 [Decor] A very old building and pub. But it seems in good condition all in all and the decor and design of the place is very nice and feels welcoming. 9/10 [Prices] Definitely a place with moderate pricing at ££ price point. An average meal would be around £15-17 per plate. But as anything it depends on what your getting. Price to food ratio on some items was ok. 8/10 [Staff] Staff are polite and up-front. They are clean and we'll dressed and seem to follow a uniform dress code that is smart. The food and getting their attention for things was easy enough and they were welcoming. The service was good. 9/10 [Service] Food was delivered promptly and was quite quick. I would have liked the vegetables to be cooked more. Some broccoli and carrots I couldn't literally cut or eat as they were raw (mainly broccolI). That could be an issue as undercooked broccoli could contain salmonella and other things. (Unlikely, but possible). 8/10 [Food] - I had the Sunday Trio. - Dinning partners had the sirloin of beef and hand carved turkey breast. Barring the vegetables. The meat and its contents were excellent. Wouldn't have minded a bigger stuffing ball but that is just preference. My dining partners agree the meat was tender and beautifully done. They do offer extra gravy for those that love to slather things in gravy. Myself included. I also opted in for an extra Yorkshire pudding at £0.50p more. I will comment that that the roast potatoes were frozen and seemingly not from the restaurant so that was a bit disappointing Overall a solid meal. I would have it again. 8/10 [Conclusion] A nice place. Good food and good service. A nice place for a date or to bring grandparents or just have a pint. A solid pub. [Why four stars] I had some issues with some of the food not to my liking. Some vegetables like broccoli being very raw and undercooked completely that I struggled with at the recent meal. The roast potatoes were frozen. You certainly couldn't cut them and I'm a young man who is reasonably strong. I think the grandparents and such would have a real struggle on their hands. My two cents anyhow.

Had a lovely meal here tonight. Calamari was lovely. Food was lovely. Staff were friendly and polite. Seated quickly and served within 5 minutes. Definitely need to book as it was filling up quickly. Very busy and popular. Mind your head on the beams on the ceiling if you are tall!

Lovely pub. Great sized garden to sit out in nice weather, and lots of seating indoors. Dog friendly indoors and in the garden with treats by the entrance. Menu is varied and the food is very good. Staff are friendly and welcoming, would recommend highly.

The Spreadeagle is a friendly, welcoming pub with a superb restaurant and wonderful staff. Nothing is too much trouble and the service is quick and efficient but you never feel rushed. I also appreciate the fact that it’s dog friendly so taking my dog is much appreciated.

My family and I visited on Friday 21 July. As usual we were more than happy with the food and service. But,what I would like to comment on is the service that the waiting staff give. These lovely young people are students who have got themselves out into the work arena to earn themselves money. They are polite and appear to be doing their very best.Unfortuately some people believe it is their right to express their dissatisfaction when things are not to their liking as was the case on Friday evening.I felt so sorry for the staff who were dealing with this individual. Of course, people can complain when things aren't to their satisfaction, but it can be done without the loud voices so that everyone can hear . My thanks to everyone at the Spread,I understand that there may be some issues with staffing but please lets give credit to the young waiting on staff .

Went on Sunday for a birthday meal took my granddaughter 9 months old. Unable to heat her jar of food for dinner other than standing it in a tub of hot water. No baby changing facilities.

Had the Lamb know it’s done rare but this still had blood pumping through its veins and had as much gristle as meat what there was of it and for the money it cost was well over priced On the up side though the the Apple & Blackberry crumble was good and the server very kindly got me another pot of custard

I'm a picky vegetarian so comments come from that direction. Mushroom starter was poor (2). Vegetarian burger was advertised as coming with handmade onion rings (they were frozen), however, the taste and texture of the vegetarian burger itself was absolutely fabulous and piping hot (5) so along with Very friendly staff and fabulous building full of character ...... the whole experience together was in my view worthy of a 4.

I always enjoy going to the Spread Eagle to drink or have a meal with friends. It has been my favourite pub even before I came to live in the village. The atmosphere is perfect.

We had Christmas Day Lunch a family of 5 adults and a child - food was excellent - staff were attentive - the place was busy but gave a nice atmosphere - we have used the Spread Eagle before but were impressed with the efficiency of a busy day. Went home with bellies full of lovely food - would go again without hesitation.

We came over for a weekend break with 7 other ladies and stayed in the croft cottage behind the spread eagle. We booked in for Sunday lunch it was very busy when we arrived but our table was ready I can only speak for myself I choose the pork and it was lovely maybe not enough pork if you was a male but enough for me. My only gripe I have is one of my friends ordered a pudding and a special coffee but her pudding never arrived so was a little bit disappointed
