I've been here twice in the last ten days. Says a lot, doesn't it? First visit was amazing and the festive menu was delicious. Gnocchi with butternut squash, truffle oil, mushrooms, spinach and parmesan. It was SO GOOD. Shared cauliflower and cheese side and parsnip which was fab. For dessert I had a warm chocolate brownie which was wow (massively into my desserts since I've been pregnant). Went home raving about the Shepherd and Dog to my other half so we booked for a NYE lunch, which we attended today. Again food did not disappoint. I didn't have a starter but my OH had calamari which he really enjoyed. For mains I had mushroom risotto, really well constructed, flavoured and delicious mushrooms, OH had ribeye steak. We shared a mac and cheese side, again well flavoured, eight consistency and crunch. I look forward to visiting once baby is born, wine menu looks great! Staff are lovely. Literally everyone is so friendly and can't do enough for us. The tall waiter with medium length hair pulled back is so lovely, served me both visits and great food recommendations. The lovely young gentleman very tanned, well groomed and the whitest teeth I've ever seen was also lovely. I just can't wait to come back!

A stunning venue both inside and out. The staff were very friendly and attentive (even returning afterwards to clarify that the kitchen could handle some dietary requirements). I was fortunate to eat outside, although some extra shade would have been nice. The inside was very busy, therefore I would suggest trying to eat outside when possible. The food was very nice with a very well portioned roast on offer Sunday. The extras also mean that you can tailor it to include all the trimmings.

Good setting with a spacious indoor bar and restaurant area and nice garden out the back. Bar and table service was very good, staff are friendly, polite, and helpful. The food was tasty, with a wide range of stuff on the menu. Also a decent range of average-priced beer and wine. I think this might be our new local!

Lovely Christmas lunch with my friends. Booked the restaurant a few weeks prior to our visit. Somehow after paying the deposit I received a call saying I had not paid but in the end this was rectified. On arrival staff were extremely helpful especially our server. The menu was lovely but I had noticed that prices had increased, although food was delicious I did find the burger and chips to be small compared to some restaurants I eat in. No onion rings!! Great choice of desserts which again were delicious. Restaurant busy but we were not waiting around. When coning to pay out bill arrived but the deposit was not take off. I asked for another bill to be prepared and when we received it the restaurant had decided to add on service change offer £12 which I found excessive especially as we were only a group of 4. I was happy to leave a £6 tip but felt obliged to pay what they were asking. Very cheeky!! Overall a lovely meal with my friends.

The food was delicious if a little on the pricier side but I think worth it for what we got. I had the burger and it was definitely one of the best burgers I've had in a long while. We sat outside where it isn't table service, but it was a lovely day out so no problem. The staff were extremely friendly and overall the service was brilliant. The place was spotlessly clean which is always good. They were filming something in the garden but we weren't made to feel in the way or anything like that, so that's great. Losing a star though for the "dress code" being one of the first things you see when walking in - I think that's a little overly pretensious for Harold Wood. Will definitely be returning again, though, I had a great time.

Had a lovely lunch here. Food and drinks really nice. Nice selection of starters and drinks on the drinks menu . Atmosphere was cosy and warm for a cold winter afternoon and the Table service was good. We arrived at 1.30pm so afternoon tea on the menu would have been perfect for this time of day . It's a nice place for groups , hen , baby shower , girls meet ups etc . Plenty of parking too .

I've driven past this place for many years and finally went in this week to try out the menu. It was good, being midweek (a Tuesday) it was quiet so easy to park and no rush to eat up and get away from the table. The set menu has a good selection and reasonably priced. Service was good, attentive, not slow or intrusive. At the weekend I see it is a very busy place so for me it's an ideal midweek place to eat good food in a relaxed atmosphere.

Just returned from a works lunch and wanted to review the shepherd & dog because the service from our waiter was exceptional. We were a large group of 14 which he handled with pure professionalism. Well done. We all ordered differently some from the set menu and some the full menu. All the meals were lovely, hot and presented beautifully. I can recommend the mussels to start followed by the seabass main with a tasty fish volute. My husband and I shared cheese and biscuits which was more than enough for two. There was a varied menu from fish and chips (catered for gluten free) to steak, pie, burgers, loin of pork, Italian dishes. An excellent choice. I couldn't fault the meal in anyway or the service. What a lovely venue, I will definitely go back.

Had Sunday lunch here with a variety of roast meals available along with their regular menu. It is advisable to book as this place gets busy. The staff seem very young and inexperienced which leads to very inconsistent service however they are all very polite. The food is of a good standard with more than adequate portions. I have eaten here a few times now and I prefer the Sundays roasts to the rest of the menu of which is very average. For the area the prices can be high considering the level of service and quality of produce used. The Sunday menu just about makes this a 4 star place.

Been here several times for lunch. Always good food with modern well appointed interior. Lots of attentive staff and a decent car park. Could well imagine a more leisurely evening or weekend visit getting a 5 star rating.

Great place with great staff — our waiter was particularly charming (and had dazzling white teeth). Can recommend the baked Camembert and grilled sea bass. If you're hungry, the haddock fish & chips can feed a small family!

Great food! Great atmosphere! Great value! 3 x Sunday roasts and a perfectly cooked rib eye steak plus a children's bangers and mash, with a sharing platter to start and waffles, ice cream and cheese board to finish plus several drinks, everything beautifully presented and served with a smile at a cost (including tip and child's meal) of just £45 per adult. Generous portions. Sharing platter was a delight especially the duck liver parfait and the crispy chilli beef. Great place to enjoy a late afternoon/early evening meal. Little people catered for with high chairs and crayons and a picture to colour in. Definitely need to book in advance. Lovely, busy, buzzy vibe and a live singer in the evening. Cannot fault this place and will most definitely be returning!

My husband and I ate here last night for a special dinner and we weren’t disappointed. The food is well presented and there’s a nice ambience in the restaurant. Our starters and nibbles were quite rushed and the menu isn’t very adventurous (mainly British pub food) but it’s worth trying it out if you want something special (just be prepared to pay well for it!)

Cosy bistro that serves amazing food. I went on a Sunday and the roast was an absolute delight. Tender meat, crunchy vegetables, a massive Yorkshire pudding, gravy to die for and don't even get me started about the stuffing. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff are all very friendly and the prices are great for the quality of food and drink you receive. The only niggle is as this place is so nice, parking can be a bit of a waiting game but all in all you'll love the experience. Highly recommend! Will be back for another roast after posting this!!!
