First thing to notice was the St George Cross banners everywhere. Felt quite patriotic. Now the food, I had a pork loin roll, with gravy, apple sauce and chips. It was great the best pub meal I've had in a while, the pork was succulent, with a crispy stuffing pancake. The chips were so tasty, loved them. The only criticism which is picky but a home made apple sauce would have been the icing on the cake. Will definitely be back. Thank you.
Just popped in for a light lunch! Couldn't resist the open lasagne. WOW so tasty, think it's the best meal I've had for ages, also chicken and Stilton tagliatelle I'm told was really good. We will have to call another day for desert, there was so much we didn't have room. 5*++
Nipped in for a bite to eat with a few friends had a hot roast pork sandwich and chips off specials menu was absolutely gorgeous will definitely return
Had a fab meal here last night - couldn't fault it! - staff lovely and welcoming. Couldn't manage a pudding although saw others trying. Seemed like a good crowd round the bar too. This was the new menu for winter - we will be back soon.

Had steak and ale pie it was excellent full of meat and the pastry was perfect , my husband had the belly pork it came with fried cauliflower which my hubby really enjoyed , great selection of beers to wash it down with so made us both very happy .
Love this place food fab atmosphere amazing come here a lot always friendly just a nice place x
Just The Best Ale. The G & D is a superb traditional English pub, the kind that is being demolished on a devastating scale here in England.
This is a real ale drinker's wet dream with probably one of the best cellars around, the Timothy Taylor Landlord, is the best pint I have had of it, but I don't go there just for the beer, the location is superb being situated in the middle of one of our most picturesque villages close to Wentworth house and the garden centre.
The food is very good at a reasonable price whether you eat there for lunch or evening meal, the staff are friendly and in summer the beer garden is great and in winter there is a real fire, everything I look for in a good pub, parking is limited so I like to park at Wentworth garden centre have a look around and then walk down to the G & D.
Had a lovely meal here. Walked in without booking early Saturday evening and was immediately accommodated. Staff were friendly and welcoming. I had the chicken in soy, ginger and honey which came out on a sizzler plate and was absolutely delicious. My partner had the crispy pork belly and although it wasnt as crispy as expected, it still melted in the mouth and he loved it. We have both said that we need to come back again to try more of the menu!
it was very busy on school mid term holiday friday. eleven of us were turned up 1:10pm without booking. unfortunately, the pub had an upstairs room which accommodated. otherwise we would be hunting food elsewhere. the service was good and the meals ordered were delicious.
arrived 12:20pm on wednesday, plenty of seats are available. haven't been back for over 10 years. the steak and ale pie was delicious. the fish and chips was a large portion. the steak and stilton sandwich was good but if more generous on steak even better.
Excellent. Really enjoyed an early Christmas lunch. The pub was really nicely decorated and staff were very friendly and helpful
Nice wee place, pretty decent food, good range of beers, with the bonus of the beer garden and field having a little outdoor bar to boot. Update for 2024. Food remains great, but much smaller range of smaller plates and options for kids.
Friendly and chatty staff, the premises are lovely and clean. The food was amazing.nGood selection of real ales.
We were a party of 16 and we were well looked after. They gave us a private room upstairs. The serving staff were excellent. Up and down those stairs like Jack in boxes. The food first class. We even had enough parking although that was a bit tight. Lovely village. Will return as soon as opportunity allows.
Tell you what.....we was told we had a 45 min wait for food when we ordered, this turned into an hour which we was prepared for....the food arrived and was lovely and the staff were excellent......come to pay the bill and they halved it due to our wait.....what a gesture by the G&D and team, thank you it was much appreciated ππΌππΌππΌ
We just had a drink,as the pub was packed. They do food and their Christmas menu looked very nice, it would probably be wise to book to make sure you had a table. There were vegetarian options available. There are plenty of steps leading to different areas so wheelchair accessibility is limited to the rear of the pub which is accessible from the carpark. There's a children's playground at the back with a seated area in front which would be popular in summer.
We had the hand battered halloumi fries, the hand cut chip butty with veggie gravy and the roasted tomato and pepper puff pastry tart. All of this washed down with a pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord. Lunch doesn't get much better. The food was delicious and the staff were really friendly.
Went for lunch whilst visiting Wentworth .
The steak & Ale pie was homemade , filled with delicious steak - generous helping and throughly enjoyable .
Dog friendly - which is a plus +
I would high recommend this pub if you want a nice relaxed visit with great quality food and service. π
We popped in for lunch Monday afternoon and had a great experience. We sat in the snug area which was nice and quiet with lots of room. We had the steak and ale pie which was the best quality pie I've had, make sure you're hungry as the portion is nice and big! Our table also had the fish & chip in which it was thoughtfully enjoyed. We also ordered off the childrens menu and the portion size was very generous too. The service was fab, quick and very friendly making sure we had everything we needed. Also everything was so clean! The toilets, baby change facilities and high chair were very clean and safe. The only thing I would say which needs improving is the website needs updating when things change as the menu was different to the one in the pub and the staff memeber said it changed 2 weeks before so not very fast updating. Thanks! π
I have been a customer here since 1982, or there abouts. The place has not changed, both inside or outside much.
I visited for lunch after a break of around 4 years: it was fantastic! I had the pheasant gujons & the partridge crown, bot excellent. My wife the lamb which was also brilliant.
The beer has been top quality & today didn't disappoint. The staff are also worthy of a mention.
Will be visiting again, very soon !
Pick here for Sunday lunch as they had plenty of outdoor space. Excellent meal but was disappointed that no one working for the pub had a mask on. We didn't feel comfortable and probably won't go again.
