Review The Hare At Roxwell - Roxwell

Few miles outside Chelmsford, in the countryside, large car park with charging point for electric car. Polite welcome but not friendly, answered my questions and I know not there to talk to me but never said how much my pint was, just offered the card machine, do you what the receipt and turn away no smile or thank you. Nice looking pub / Restaurant with large garden with good quality wooden tables and chairs, shame ash tray full of water and butt's, easy to fix. Have area with large TV for Rugby so assume only Terrestrial TV. Never ate on this occasion but nice looking range of cakes. Was looking to pop in for a pint at 2pm on a Saturday and passed two pubs, only a mile or so away that looks very busy and this was almost empty, four tables 20 people. Now sell Boombar my favourite beer so will drop in again when passing.

Such a lovely place, staff and food amazing. The manager gave us a complimentary glass of bubbles for our Anniversary too... just so nice. Been coming here for years and that will continue x

We came here last evening with our friends who have been before. Everything about it was lovely. The staff (Molly and another who I can't remember her name) were exceptionally polite and knowledgeable. Food delicious 😋 We will be coming again. Thank you

Lovely venue, great views over the country side. Great place for the smaller appetites. You can order a Mini Meal here which was ideal for me and my friend. Lovely friendly staff too.

We arrived in drubs and drabs. That didn’t worry them! We had some testing dietary requirements. That didn’t worry them! The food was good and served all at once! That was quite a treat. All in all it was a very pleasant experience and we’ll be back!!!

Enjoyed a festive meal at The Hare, ribs fell off the bone and melted in the mouth, truffle & parmesan chunky chips were delicious and apple crumble with ice cream was yummy. Service good and will return!

Noticed this beautiful looking place whilst driving past. . Decided to stop by for lunch on our way back. On entering, first impressions were good. Period building, with lovely wooden beams and furnishings to match. Several patrons both inside and outside, so obviously a very popular eating and drinking place. We were quickly attended to by a friendly waitress who asked if we'd booked a table. We said we hadn't, but were offered a table immediately, with the only condition that we vacate the table before 1930. This wasn't a problem as it gave us an easy 90 mins. Our order for starters was taken and was promptly served. My girlfriend had a delicious homemade soup and I tried the Leigh on_sea battered cockles. Although the soup was lovely, my starter only tasted of batter balls which was a disappointment. For our Mains I ordered a ploughman's lunch and my girlfriend ordered the small steak and ale pie with mash and peas. Unfortunately the supplied gravy wasn't nearly enough so she had to ask for more. Being picky, I must say I found it necessary to ask for a fork to eat my ploughman's, finding it strange I wasn't supplied with one. The ale that was recommended was beautiful and would have enjoyed more, if I hadn't been driving. Having said all of that, I must say I was very impressed with the manageress when she deducted the price of the battered cockles from the bill which was £6 Overall we found it to be a very enjoyable meal in a very warm and friendly atmosphere and wouldn't hesitate in recommending to anyone passing by in the picturesque village of Roxwell.

Absolutely great meal and service for a big family party. About 40 of us and no complaints at all, only positive things to say by everyone. Amazing staff who couldn't have been more helpful

lovely country pub!!!!.....that is until a chain brought into it. have been here before and it was faultless but arriving last night it wasnt a fantastic start l, we was greeted by what i found out to be the manager with a cant be bothered attitude he took us to an area and said theres 3 tables of 2 take your pick and just walked off and we was stood there not knowing where to go.....thankfully our waitress Dianna i think she was called was very helpful upbeat and all in all fantastic!!!!. we had complimentary bread for the table the presentation was almost perfect as there was flour all over the knife so when you cut the bred you ended up with flour all over you. i had the chicken strips to start, they where a little over cooked and a bit dry but there was plenty of BBQ sauce to correct that my partner had the soup of the day which was packed full of flavour and had a nice little chili kick to it, then there was the beef hot pot for my partner's main which had big chunks of melt in the mouth beef in it and plenty of it altho the veg that accompanied it was a little under cooked and hard, i had the rack of ribs which was extremely tasty the meat was falling off the bone and smothered in a tasty BBQ sauce. the portion size was generous i even took a doggy bag as i couldn't eat the entire rack. we shared a very rich and indulgent chocolate brownie to finish the meal off which was perfect. there didnt seem to be much social distancing going on which unnerved me a little bit as we had a table right behind us of 3 and less than 1 meter away but every1 seemed to be sanitising and doing what they should. i wouldn't go out of my way to pop in but if i was in the area i would make a return visit as the views and location are brilliant.

Lovely Welcoming staff . Pleasant service and relaxing atmosphere . Food pleasant but Sea bass dish uninspiring . Dessert selection good and my friend asked for Green Tea but they brought Peppermint (as no green tea available) Waiter SO apologetic that it did not bother us at all . Pleasant pm

More of a restaurant than a pub, it's definitely a place you'd go to eat rather than just have drinks. But then with decent food on offer, why wouldn't you want to eat? An extensive menu means you should easily find something you like. Service was good, table service inside but not outside - remember your table number and just head to the bar with your order. I loved the small plates as a full size dish would have been too much for me. Food was good, not fine dining, but good pub grub. I left happy and more than willing to return.

Went here today. If u have an allergy that isn't gluten don't bother they think all allergies are gluten. Food was expensive didn't have a dairy and egg free pudding so asked for fruit for baby got a tiny bowl and was charged £4.00 for it. Deffo will not be going back

Been today for a meal for my Birthday. Craig & Lee couldn't of made us feel anymore welcome and looked after. What can I say other than 'the steak pie' was to die for. Thank you all at The Hare. You made my 2016 Birthday truly lovely 5*+ Julie xxx

A beautifully furnished and welcoming pub restaurant. The bar staff found our charity cycling team a last minute table for 10 people on Saturday of the Easter Weekend which we were very grateful for. The food was great and excellent prices. They even let our charity do a quick collection which raised £60. Thanks so much, we'll be back next year!

First visit today and certainly will not be the last!! Staff were very welcoming and friendly. So many lovely dishes to choose from but we settled for a "good ol' roast". Glad we did as it was probably the best pub roast we've had. The roast pork was lovely, tender and plentiful, crackling too!! The roast pots, yorkshire pud and selection of veg were excellent. How we finished it all i don't know but it was yummy!! Only complaint is that we were so full we couldn't manage a dessert!! Next time can't come soon enough. Great value for money.
