Review The Yorkshireman - Rugeley

Ian Hadridge
1st visit back to The Yorkshireman in over 2 years after a bad experience. To sum it up plesently suprised. The decor had not changed but that was always homley anayway. But the food and the staff very good. The menu is not over complicated but will cover most tastes. Staff and service were of the highest order with a good knowledge of what was to offer on menu and bar drinks. She even told be the abv % of the ales! With two rounds of drinks plus starter and main each the bill was £45 so in the range of what to expect for this type of venue. A good experience and we will put them back on our list of places to go when home cooking is not convenient due to time constraints

Very impressive! Despite being packed out with office Christmas parties they served us an excellent steak and chips and nut burger. Very good home made chips and succulent steak. Best vegetarian food ever. Very well done chef!

Nice friendly little pub, where we had a Sunday roast. Lovely meal with all the trimmings and the dessert was divine! The staff were very welcoming and happy to serve us at our table.

Unfortunately this photo was taken before the new owners took over, it was a lovely pub that we used to go to a lot. I believe that it has turned into housing now which is very sad. I loved this pub a lot, especially the dog that used to sit in the bar ! :)

Arrived without a reservation and received a warm welcome. We were quickly seated, drinks order taken and menus provided. The girls were wonderful, cheery and attentive. Our dinner order was taken promptly and arrived in a timely manner. The food was excellent, can't compliment the kitchen enough. Will visit again, highly recommended.

Great food, amazing service. Interior is so much nicer than the old Yorkshireman, the new owners have done a fantastic job making the place look stylish and fresh. The new clean revamped toilets are a much needed update. Food was cooked to perfection. I had the gammon. I hate a runny egg and asked the waitress for my egg to be well done and usually I expect a burnt rubbery lump, but this egg was just how I like it. My friend had the burger and it was super juicy and ever so pink still inside. Both our chips were amazing; crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. A lot nicer now you don’t have to straddle a dog in the bar to get to the restaurant. At the end of the day it’s a restaurant, it’s not supposed to have dogs in it. Staff we’re very nice and friendly and it’s great to see a real traditional family run pub nowadays. Will definitely be returning.

Wow the food was amazing the best we have had in a long while and that's coming from someone who is very fussy about their food. Top quality home made food all gluten free menu, great fresh moden ambiance. Great staff loved it we will definitely be returning!

Fabulous refurbishment. It’s nice to have a homemade menu, the vast majority of pubs and restaurants now buy in meals and reheat them and have a price tag twice as much and the Yorkshireman. Service as very good, pleasant waitresses. Well done The Yorkshireman. Well done that chef. Philip and Linda Medley

Beautiful home cooked food, perfect! My young son said "The chef should be on Masterchef" Decorated so tasteful and a very warm welcome.. may I add the most amazing local strawberry gin too. We have booked again for Father's Day.

We stopped off here after missing our train and wanted to have a drink whilst we waited for the next one. We were met by two very friendly young ladies who were just opening up. We were made to feel very welcome. Had some drinks, Welsh rarebit and a plate of chips. All very good. It's not often you get such friendly welcoming service. Very impressed.

The staff could not try harder, service is amazing. The food is fine dining at an affordable price.everything we had was beautifully served and presented, the bar area is dog friendly with free dog treats. Good selection of house wines and great well kept real ale too. Highly recommended!

At first glance the place looks a little bit shabby but once you sit down you soon forget it. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food although a small menu everything is prepared fresh to a very high standard. The prices are very pair with a fixed price menu available.

Another 'gastropub' experience (think shabby chic furniture, food on slates) which is a pet hate of mine. excellent service got this a 4 star review. Food was OK, but not enough to make me want to rush back there. Good value overall, and would go back, but wouldn't be booking to go there next week

Visited recently but left very disappointed and hungry. Previous visits have always been successful - good quality food, good portion sizes and friendly staff. Now after recent changes to the kitchen staff and maybe management - the portion sizes are half what they were but more expensive. The staff are still as friendly and this is maybe the only good thing that I can say about the place. The decor of the pub does not match the food style that is now being served e.g a piece of wallpaper missing off the wall for the past 2 years - perhaps a refit is needed! I’m sorry that I won’t be able to recommend this pub anymore and won’t be visiting again anytime soon.

Went for Sunday lunch today and I have to admit it was beautiful. We are all quick to moan and groan when it's not good and rarely give a good word or thank you, but honestly the staff were friendly and enjoyed talking to us. They were more than accommodating being as I have my young dog with us giving him water etc. The meal itself what can I say expect lovely really enjoyable ( my partners daughter is a finicky eater and does not enjoy Sunday lunch) and they catered for her too, and the dessert platter well it must be sampled to be savoured. It is really a true gem to go and eat and relax at such a homely establishment Thank you

First ever visit to The Yorkshireman this lunchtime, celebrating a family birthday. The food was excellent- nice to have veggies with the roasts that weren't cooked to oblivion. Two of us opted for the nut roast and have to say it was one of the best we've ever had- nice and flavoursome. The service was impeccable- even as things started to get busier; we neither felt rushed nor that we were kept waiting. A nice, relaxed atmosphere and the dessert platter was gorgeous at the end of the meal (we were determined to try these, even though the generous mains were more than a bit filling!) Thanks to all the staff for a great first visit! Hope to be back soon.

Great place. Very friendly staff (sorry about Mr Napkin Face). The food was amazing and incredible value. I would definitely recommend this place and wish it was nearer as I'm sure it would fast become one of our favourite haunts.

Being a regular at the Yorkshire man enjoying numerous lunchtimes , evenings and Sunday lunch times. The menu changes to reflect the seasons and has locally sourced ingredients. Always freshly cooked and beautifully presented. Good wine list and . Service is attentive and is by far the best place to eat locally .

Four is ate at the Yorkshireman for Easter Sunday lunch. Starters were good, main (roast beef) was excellent, puddings were a little disappointing - three chocolate bread puddings were a bit small, the dessert platter was tiny but for £2.75 we didn't expect them to be huge! All in all, great value and good food. Beer was excellent!

Great service, friendly place and great food. Fab knowledge of gluten free items, for my partner who is a coeliac. Xx

Not a lot of variety, small portions, couldnt tell who were staff (casual clothes, stood at bar) the pub is different and funky layout

Disappointing lunch. Sorry to say that my lunch at the yorkshireman was below par on my return. Had the slow cooked pork belly which had very tough meat and the crackling was not crispy in the slightest. I expected better. It was clearly rushed. The place was empty so no excuse.

-----05 Jan, 2015-----

Great service, lovely food and nice venue. Very happy with my meal. Had the ham, eggs and chips with a side of onion rings. Lovely food. The ham was delicious. Local beers on tap. Highly recommend.
