Food is very good, but honestly, way overpriced. Former Chicagoan and got more for your buck back in the "windy city" and they're more expensive up there in Chi-town.....

When I am in town I have to make sure and stop by my favorite Puerto Rican food restaurant for their amazing lunched. They are located right outside of Ft. Sam Army base and lunch time is the best time to go get some great food for a great price! The Rotisserie chicken & roasted pork is so good; they are both cooked excellent, seasoned perfectly and taste amazing! I'm not sure what they call the rice, but it really good too and I recommend trying the the rice that is cooked with meat inside. They also have a choice of black beans or pinto beans to add and of course theres plantain and a side salad. I usually get the two meat plate for lunch and the portions are incredible. It's enough food for me to have for lunch and dinner. The staff are always smiling and friendly and they always seem to go the extra mile to make sure that you get everything that you need. The restaurant is always very clean and I really appreciate that their bathrooms are always serviceable and clean.

The lunch special is absolutely legit. From the rice and beans to the pulled pork every thing is delicious. One day I will have to try something else, but it's hard to want anything else when I'm there.

The chicken was especially juicy and tender, deliciously seasoned, and well portioned. I really enjoyed the beans and rice, and the plantains were delightful. I liked the green sauce, but be gentle with it my friends. It has an excellent flavor, but packs a punch. It watched as it gave my wife goose bumps. It made my brow sweat - yet I felt compelled to continue eating it 😁.

Went with some co-workers after newly arriving to Fort Sam Houston. Combo meal was amazing. So much good food for a good price. I had the grilled chicken and the roast pork with the seafood rice. The seafood rice was a little more fish forward for my preference but this is not a complaint, just my personal preference as my co-workers all loved it. The staff were friendly and explained each dish when we got in line. I have never been to a Puerto Rican restaurant before but am definitely hooked now.

El Pilón is always great for lunch during the week. The lunch specials are priced just right and they serve a lot. The staff is like family with you. Expect the best treatment. I've been there during the weekend, but is not the same. Don't know the reason. Maybe the weekly chef is out. If you want a taste of Puertorican food on a budget, go during the week at noon. Enjoy.

I had a very delicious lunch here. We had VERY quick service which made it easy for us to get back to the office before our lunch break was up. I will definitely be back!

This place never disappoints. The food is awesome and the prices aren't bad. This is a plate of pernil with arroz con gandules, salad, maduros and I also had black beans. We will be back for sure. Update: Came back after a few years and the food has gotten even better. Now it was like a buffet style and you can order individual plates. It was so good.
