The national coast of Fire Island is a real pearl of the coast. Its pristine beaches, rolling dunes and vibrant ecosystems make it a true paradise for nature lovers. Visiting here is like returning to a simpler, calmer world, away from the stresses of everyday life.

Launched the boat from Hecksher state park. Free with Empire pass. Nice 25 minute boat ride with my daughter. We went to visit relatives staying at Davis Park. Moored at their bouy but you can anchor as well or pay to dock. Beautiful day at the beach with family. Weather wasn't good all day. Took a quick ride back and we were home just as the thunderstorm hit. Not perfect but a great day nonetheless.

When I think of New York, I generally think of a bustling city with lots of activity and excitement. I would never think that just outside of Long Island I could find a beautiful, natural retreat. But that’s exactly what Fireside Island National Seashore offers, a retreat back to nature to regroup and reflect. In addition to the seashore and boardwalk, we enjoyed the Light Station, Lighthouse Tower, museum and the gift shop. There are two buildings to explore, the Light Station and the Lighthouse Tower. The building that houses the Lighthouse Tower is also where you’ll find the the museum, restrooms and gift shop. The beachfront is gorgeous and so pristine. It was a welcomed surprise to see all the different shells and birds. We also enjoyed the boardwalk which allowed us to take in the scenery without disturbing the natural habitat. All in all, this area was a great unexpected find, and we certainly hope to return! Not the easiest beach to get to, as you need to coordinate a ferry and then walk through a very unique little "village". But the beach is wide and goes on for miles, with nice water and beautiful sand for a beach so far north. There are also some decent restaurants and shops in town. Will be back next summer for sure!
