Alena's Kitchen Scarborough

Very friendly owners and great food. My Mum had beef goulash with dumplings, and I had fried cheese with chips. Both meals were very good. This was the first time we'd tried Czech food, and we will definitely return for more, probably potato pancakes next time.

Starter - Czech Soup of day (Mixed Vegtable) Main 1 - Beef goulash (Czech style) Main 2 - Hot dog (grilled) (with salad) Side - Potato pancakes Desert - Czech pudding Starting with our first course we ordered a soup which arrived within 5 minutes! The broth was warmed to a great temperature and the bread floats were not soaked. The ratio of vegetables to broth was even and flavour was excellent! 8/10 £3.50 Aprox. For our main course we had 2 dishes, a Beef goulash with Czech dumplings. The dumplings were unfortunately more like soft bread but still pleasant. The seasoning was perfect and the portion was great. 8/10 £11 Aprox. For the Main course 2 a hotdog was ordered (Grilled). When biting into the hotdog I noticed it was well seasoned and salty, the meat was succulent and the sear was perfect. The meal came with salad. 9/10 £3.50 Aprox. We also had a side (Potato pancakes). It is a Czech traditional dish and deep fried. It is very similar to Latkeys (A traditional Hebrew dish). In my opinion there wasn't much flavour but maybe that's just the way it's ment to be 🤷‍♂️. The pancakes were offered for free by Dennis with the hotdog**. In total I would rate it 6/10 £8 Aprox. **Unfortunately the promise of free Potato pancakes was not realised at the bill as we were charged for them which was very disappointing. For the desert we had what vaguely tasted and looked like angels delight with chocolate moose ontop with whipped cream and sprinkles. (Czech Desert). The flavour was pleasant and very sweet, in my opinion it was not much different to a regular moose but was still tasty. I am going to rate this a (7/10) £3.50 Aprox. In total the rating comes to 38/50 (3.8/5) I believe this is a fair rating and feel encouraged to come back again! Your local guide Joshua

Small Czech place, amazing price to quality ratio, and the portions are big as well. The staff was super friendly and happy to offer suggestions. They don't serve alcohol, but are happy for you to bring your own and they even provide glasses for it. Would recommend it, though mind you it's a bit small so may need to wait or come back later.

Lovely first visit to Alena's whilst visiting Scarborough, thoroughly enjoyed our tea/ dinner - I had grilled chicken breast with chips and salad and my partner had Czech beef and dumpling dish which he really enjoyed, wished we'd been able to sample the desserts which looked fab. Alena was so warm and welcoming which made the visit even more enjoyable x

Excellent home cooked food served by a very friendly host. Would highly recommend the goulash, schnitzel and home baked cake. Unhurried and relaxed atmosphere with delicious food. Well worth a visit.
