The best dairy free lunch I’ve had. I nipped in to The Cricket Inn for some lunch and the staff and chef couldn’t have been better. I’m recently dairy free and find it hard to find places which can accommodate and this place excelled. Not only did the chef mark which dishes could be adapted, the substitutions (chive oil over butter etc) were amazing and well thought through. They even adapted the crumble they had at the end for a dairy free sponge. I can’t thank the folks here enough and will be making a special trip back soon.

My family took me to this lovely country pub just on the outskirts of Sheffield. Its up a small winding road and is an unexpected very popular destination dining pub. There are several small cosy rooms with open fires to just have a drink or enjoy a meal. Plus a large dining room which is still relaxed and friendly but nice enough to dress up should you like to. The whole place is dog friendly and muddy boots are expected as they border onto Derbyshire and its many walks. We were seated in the dining room and were served by friendly knowledgeable staff. As it was a Sunday lunch celebration we decided to push out the boat and have three courses. I started with a melange of celeriac including remoulade of celeriac, puree, and

Had a wonderful dinner date. Fried calamari was amazing. Fettuccine was fresh and delicious. Steak wasn't the best quality but was OK. It was a wonderful place outside the restaurant as well with plenty of parking, vegetable garden. Overall, it was a wonderful evening

I was kindly invited to try their Pie Tuesday (Pie & Half a pint for £13) and it was lovely. We were warmly welcomed and showed to our table in the beautiful dining area which had subtle autumnal décor and felt cosy. The food we enjoyed was beautiful and well worth the 40 minutes drive for us. The Pie menu is concise offering a meat, fish or vegetable pie each coming with potatoes, and half a pint of a Thornbridge beer. There is a small selection of vegetables you can add at an extra cost also. The full menu is still available Tuesdays, but we just decided to go all in and stick to the pies. We enjoyed; Beef Shin & Potato Thornbridge Ale Pie with roast potatoes – proper chunks of juicy beef, a rich casing of pastry and lots of gravy. The roasties were crispy too – a really good dish and filling as it is. Fisherman’s Pie with salmon, haddock, tuna, monkfish, cod, cheddar mash & buttered greens – so many chunks of tasty fish, the mash was gorgeous and smooth and the greens were paired well with the dish so it wasn’t too rich. Halves of Jaipur – one of our favourites Thornbridge beers. Side of Roast Mushrooms & Carrots – a nice addition and my only feedback is that we thought for one carrot and one flat cap mushroom, the price didn’t reflect the side dish well compared to how generously priced the deal was. Everything we ate was delicious and it was clear that quality ingredients were used and that the food is made with passion here. The selection of pie flavours is fairly limited. Understandably the chef wants to focus on the quality of deliverance by keeping this concise, however I hope the flavour selection expands over time should Pie Tuesdays be a hit, which we feel it will! A great meal and evening here.

Amazing food, lovely staff, and as a bonus dog friendly. Great place for a feed after a hike in the area.

Former favourite but not been for a while. Turned up without booking at noon on Sunday but there was plenty of space and we were served quickly. Went for the beef shin & potato pie and was relieved to see a proper pie (with sides) arrive. This was up there with best pies I’ve ever had and clearly a lot of effort goes into the food. With more gravy and seasoning we could have been looking a one of the best pie dishes around but still - this was top quality. The side order of cauliflower cheese was also excellent. Beer was a quaffable bitter by nearby Thornbridge brewery in Bakewell. This place has been knocking out quality food for years now and is well worth a trip out to. A walk around nearby Blackamoor Nature Reserve is also a must.

Had a lovely meal here as a large group on a Sunday lunch. Not many vegetarian options as this was a set menu for this busy period, but what I had was very tasty! Staff were fab, and very accommodating of the three children in our party.

This is a pub to stop by if in the area. We had a family meal out which was good. The main feature here is the cricket field, particularly nice when the weather is good. The only advice from me here is to book your table in advance! No photos of the outside area this time as we were sitting inside, which is equally pleasant. Will come back!

Always a favourite for Sunday Dinner! Great size portions and quality of food. The sides are too tempting but beware.. there is a lot of food! Pies are great - they do a pie deal on a Tuesday evening, pie and a drink for £13 which is great value for a cheap mid week eat. Can’t beat sitting out the back on a sunny day overlooking the cricket pitch with a pint of Thornbridge Lukas! Make sure you book!

Updated August 2018: the food at the cricket inn never ceases to amaze us. The specials are unbelievable, we recently had the scallops and pork belly starter (see photo) which is some of the best the party had ever had! We can’t recommend the Cricket Inn enough. Updated January 2018: we have recently been with family and friends on multiple occasions, and each time the food has been unbeatable. True luxury in taste and presentation, with a whole range of new dishes keeping everyone on their toes with excitement. Definitely the best restaurant that we’ve been to this side of Sheffield. 2017: Wonderful food, with a great atmosphere. The specials are really awesome, so get down early to avoid missing out! It's also in a really beautiful location.

We've been to The Cricket twice this month for Sunday roasts and both times it's been absolutely impeccable. Delicious food, quick and friendly service and a brilliant atmosphere. We'll be coming back soon!

A really nice restaurant bar but mainly restaurant, friendly efficient staff, very busy for Sunday lunch , beef was extremely tough, i only heard later from a local man that this seems to be the way re beef of late in Yorkshire unfortunately, Great choices from menu and all good , the cricket inn is located in picturesque surroundings, well worth a visit, although regardless of how wealthy you might be, it would be nice to see prices on menu etc re before ordering, food prices not on menu or advertised anywhere, I did see a menu with some prices advertised on line but old , but all in all a nice place to visit,

Excellent food, good portion size. Comfortable indoors area. Fantastic service. We had the Beef short rib bourginon and duck confit. The dark chocolate and salted mousse with hazelnut praline is to die for! Good choice of beers and lovely outside area too. Would definitely recommend and wish we could have that mousse delivered when we're back home in Surrey!

Really enjoyed our visit. Came with our dog and everyone was super kind - even when she got a bit hyper and spilled water everywhere. Food was amazing and they also had a good selection of alcohol free drinks including mocktails and an alcohol free sparkling wine!
