Narrow 18th C property on the main shopping street that has been a coffee shop and pub for centuries. Now run as a bar. Has rooms and outside tables. Real log fire in Winter. A choice of two ciders on tap, and many more bottled.
Maybe not the best place in the evening for 'romantic couples - said to be very lively in the evenings; but being a 'bar' and not a pub then presumably is geared to the youngsters. Some of the sweary noisy young males we saw in the afternoon can be off-putting. Two large TVs were thankfully not on when we were there.
No food but the host does not mind you bringing a take-away in.
The host is great to chat to.
A real find - strongly recommend.

I didn't stay here but popped in for a drink. Friendly, affable staff and nice locals who were quite helpful with restaurant recommendations. Accepted my American credit card without issues.

Very friendly local pub. We had a good time and a couple of good laughs too.
Mark Barton
Landlord was really lovely and welcoming, talking about the local area and asking about our day.
It's the kind of place I can imagine would be a great little local pub, unfortunately we were just visiting.

New Landlord and sons. Ian was very nice. Alex and son are doubly so...with some excellent ideas to revitalize this lovely local . New Menu to follow...as is 5stars...I've suggested pickled eggs for starters... Agree?

Now this is a place to enjoy!
If you want a pint and a bite to eat, this is the place to be. The landlord Ian runs a good establishment, with all the necessary measures in place for this Covid stuff. He effectively polices it as well, with anyone who pushes the guidelines swiftly reminded of their choices (comply or leave!)
It is frequented by locals, so that's always a good sign.
There is a standard pub menu of dishes at very reasonable prices

Nice, welcoming old fashioned pub, no frills. Good landlord, real fire, fruit machine from 16 years ago with half the lights not working but who cares, the people in there seem nice and friendly 👍

Liked this place a lot. Wandered in off the street. Very welcoming - for a woman on her own - daytime. Great chips & breaded mushrooms. Will definitely come again.
Pauline Bryan
A small and friendly pub. Great service and Ian, the landlord, was welcoming and very knowledgable about the drinks he had on tap.

Real down to earth pub, full of characters.
Landlord will be changing imminently, so it might close for a while.
John Cartner
Really decent pint,a nice friendly landlord who knows his ale and a smattering of locals to add to the ambiance, enjoyable evening.

Basically because of the landlord he makes the place he does the cooking serves at the bar and seems to know everyone who passes by,has a friendly word /chat with them and helps out socially when able to.

A great town centre pub, simple and unpretentious. Good beer, well kept. Home cooked food.
