So me and my wife have never stayed here overnight but we have every intention of doing so potentially next year for our anniversary simply because its just such a stunning old hotel that's so convenient for the centre of Shrewsbury..We nearly got married here but unfortunately we did choose somewhere else In Shropshire but to renew our vows In a few years is a distinct possibility. For now just pop in like we did yesterday and have breakfast £10 good full English with mine a excellent vegetarian option and a continental buffet!! Didn't get chance to take pictures of oir breakfast it went far to quickly..Breakfast staff were spot on aswell..I think this hotel is going to be our stay cation in the future.

Just had 2 nights B&B at this lovely, atmospheric old hotel. Sure, all the floorboards creak, it’s well worn round the edges and there’s no air conditioning, but they’ve got all the important stuff right and it’s got bags of charm and history. That’s surely what a visit to Shrewsbury is all about, if you want sterile, uniform accommodation book a chain hotel and leave this glorious old place alone!

My husband and I were invited to join our friends for a special dinner party at The Lion Hotel. I have to say we had a brilliant time. We enjoyed the food and the entertainment. The service was impeccabile. I would like to send my special thanks to the General Manager Josephina who was there to make sure everyone at the restaurant was happy from the guests to the staff. It was lovely to chat with her and we will surely be back for another dinner party. Thank you!

An old historic building with a lot of original features. Quite quirky to say the least. Sadly it does seem to require a cash injection to address carpets, curtains and some decor. I understand from management this is a working progress. The breakfast was absolutely FANTASTIC....so much choice, couldnt fault any of it. The staff were both helpful and friendly. The location is ideal for both the town and lovely river walks. We would definitely stay here again if in the area. Well done.

We were booked for a birthday party so didn't see any of the rooms. The staff were very helpful to me but they didn't tell 2 other band members that they needed to register their vehicles to stop a parking fine. I did notice that there wasn't any real ale in the bar. As I was on soft drinks, I wasn't that worried. But if I was visiting Shrewsbury, I'd probably go elsewhere.

I have enjoyed my stay ...very helpful staff can not fault them. Rooms are very clean but in need off a revamp ... my bed was a bit lumpy and not comfortable and a stale smell in the room ... with a bit of care and love a revamp is needed as this hotel has history and need to be preserved ... I did not have breakfast but looked like every one was enjoying them selves !!! :) yes i would stay again ...

If you like the corporate style this is not for you. It is quirky interesting and historic. No concrete flooring only creaking floor boards. Style and grandeur in all the public rooms. Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable. Two reasonable sized car parks which is good in a town centre location. Staff polite, very helpful and friendly. Only ate breakfast which we enjoyed in their restaurant overlooking the high street. Some of the carpets are tired and this needs updating. Please do not allow a team of interior designers to wreck the place with a 'modernisation'. This is a wonderful hotel full of character I recommend staying here.

The hotel is in a really good location, close to shops, takeaways etc. The room was old fashioned but comfortable and clean. The bath was a good size. The service was excellent. The cooked breakfast was really good! (They could do with improving the coffee machine though) Negatives- thin walls. Could hear the neighbours talking loud and then the upstairs came in late and I could also hear them talking very loud, (drunk) Overall with the comfy bed, cracking service and the great cooked breakfast I would definitely recommend for the price. (£44 double room) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

- We (my husband Scott & I) just spent a week in England and the weekend in Shrewsbury, a beautiful old town full of a lot of history. We stayed at The Lion Hotel Shrewsbury and have good and bad feelings about the place. The hotel itself needs a major refurbishment as it’s clearly neglected by whoever owns it but the staff were amazing & made up for the lack of facilities. The lack of a lift in a hotel with steep stairs was a major problem for us both but the common areas were so well kept, obviously by someone very proud to make it homely. The staff were so helpful but very busy. The manager Guiseppina was clearly the creator of such a warm, welcoming, lovely atmosphere. She was there from breakfast to late in the evening when we had our after dinner drinks, managing staff and ensuring all our needs were taken care of. It was such a pleasure chatting to her and so many others throughout our stay. The breakfast was wonderful, busy but well catered with plenty of food The room was a bit small but characteristic of old England. The shower was hard to operate. We would definitly stay again and highly recommemd others to stay at this very English Hotel as we can say that they will be so well looked after by Guiseppina and staff who made the extra effort to make our stay enjoyable.

Manager was especially friendly and welcoming and the breakfast packages left out the door in the morning was an excellent surprise. They are taking COVID measures extremely seriously and in a way that is not distracting from the hotel experience. The rooms are basic and possibly dated, but they were what we needed, clean and comfortable. I would recommend staying here. Parking is something you should investigate into prior to arriving as it's limited. Would happily come back in the future.
