We thought you would like to know that THE WHITE HART was awarded 5 stars on gastrohub. Here is the review from the site. A memory string was twanged in Dad's mind as we passed a sign for Harting. We promptly followed the sign and found ourselves at The White Hart in South Harting. Upon entering, we could instantly feel that mysterious pub magic in the air. A friendly welcome, oak beams, a slightly worn parquet floor and that smell which is particular to the finest of English pubs. We took a table by the fireplace, which unfortunately wasn't lit, although we did have a candle on the table which was. We, especially me, got very excited as we ploughed through the menu. Great variety, fair prices and a clear eye for imaginative details set this menu a class above the norm. I even made the bold statement, that this may be the best menu we've ever seen. The cherry on the top was the lunchtime set menu, offering two courses for £15 or three for £18. This is the direction that we decided to take. Dad chose, smoked ham hock and black pudding terrine with piccalilli, pork crackling and bread. For his main, beef and horseradish sausages, mustard mash, onion gravy and crispy leeks. You can see already how we were excited about this menu. It shows effort and care, making you want to eat the food. For my part I picked the roasted, curried parsnip soup with lime crème fraiche, parsnip crisps and bread. This would be followed by tempura fried red mullet with noodles in a lime and soy dressing. That is not the sort of food you would usually find on a set lunch menu in a pub. It quickly became clear that our instincts were correct. The food was beautifully presented. The soup was perfect and the parsnip crisps light and delicious. The terrine was wonderful, taken to another level by the piccalilli and crackling. The bread was fresh and the service continued to be just right. By the time the mains arrived, we were already convinced that we had found something special, but the food set before us only served to cement what we already believed. There is a serious chef at work here, who wouldn't be out of place in a fine dining restaurant. My tempura mullet was absolutely perfect and the dressing on the noodles was immense. Dad's was equally as impressive, with the crispy leeks acting as a perfect balance to the creamy mash. Not only were we amazed to find such food on a set menu at such reasonable prices, but we were also pleased to see good portion sizes. Set menu can so often mean less food for less money, but not here. There was quite literally nothing wrong with our food, it was of an incredibly high standard. Thankfully, it was a rare case of finding amazing food in a wonderful pub, thus creating the perfect pub storm. This may even be our new best pub ever, or at least in the top three. If you haven't been here, we urge you to give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

We love to stop for a hearty breakfast at The White Hart. They are extremely dog friendly and always give a warm welcome to Ila (our dog) and us. They have both a continental and more traditional menu. We both love Full English breakfast, so cannot comment on the Continental breakfast, but can vouch that the Full English is very tasty! It is a pretty country pub complete with doggy cushions, rustic décor and log fireplaces. The pub garden is also very sweet and we hope to stop by for lunch or dinner in the pub garden in the future. Check out our blog at ilathetoller.wordpress for a full review.

Visited yesterday after a long walk on the South Downs Way. We were hoping to get to the pub before the 3pm cut off for food, delights to say that the time on the website was incorrect. We four ordered our drinks and set about looking at the menu whilst seated in the garden. Menu sorted we went to Hythe bar to order and was met by a very nice gentleman en route doh said he round take out order at the table outside. He had a good manner and knowledge of wine too. 1 had roast pork, 1 roast beef, 1 burger and 1 cod and chips which were all delicious. Desserts were good too. Very nice touch with the use off proper napkins.

We moved to South Harting 9 months ago and what with being in such a busy city centre for over a decade we were looking forward to moving away into the country. This pub is now our local and we absolutely love it here. The food is rear everytime we go and there is a variety for everyone to choose from. We have gotten to know the staff and have always received a warm welcome. The pub has a beautiful garden, perfect for a summer time beer and chill. Then in the winter it has a lovely ambience and is warm and cosy with the fires. Couldn’t recommend enough. Had the steak tonight for the first time and it was done just the way I like it. For us as well we have a dog so it was important to have somewhere that was dog friendly. It’s safe to say dogs are well loved in this pub!

Lovely locals made us feel welcome and nice to see all their pets in the pub which the UK allow. Missing home after travelling from the land of Ozz. Friendly staff😬 Food was really good. Loved the Salmon moose yum yum - Rooms clean and comfortable. 🏚Just a little pricey, food not so..

Friendly and pleasant staff. Very attentive made you feel at home. Room 1 is the room to book at this establishment. We visited in October and the views over the beer garden and beyond would be superb during the Summer months.

Fantastic village pub. Great food and genuinely warm welcome. Lovely garden and dog friendly. Very old, quaint rooms - but with all facilities and amenities. Spotlessly clean. The bacon at breakfast was absolutely delicious!

This is a lovely country Inn with beautiful views out from the rear beer garden. The room we stayed in was well equipped with traditionally designed interior and modern touches. The duty manager Danny was welcoming, friendly and helpful, lovely service, thank you. We absolutely loved our stay and would stay again. Highly recommend it.

Rooms are classy and stylish if a little small. There's not much light, but the bathrooms are nice and well provisioned. Main bar has a nice look to it and there's a decent beer garden too. Food was a bit average. Several items on the menu were off, I had an average fish and chips with the smallest quantity of peas you could serve and still put it on the menu. Service wasn't great for us but the manager apologised afterwards so I expect this was not typical.

Surprisingly high quality ingredients in their specials! Often pub food can be unimaginative and bland. The chefs here are clearly sourcing seasonal products in peak condition. Had a summery pea soup and watermelon salad that were both incredible. Highly recommend ordering off their specials menu when available.

Lovely pub in a picture postcard Downs village. To be fair, I was having a quick pint just prior to a wedding in the village church on a gorgeous sunny day so my perception was skewed happy, but I suspect that it would be equally nice whatever the circumstances.

The staff are very good. It's nice to get excellent customer service in a little village pub. The food was standard pub selection, but done much better. Roast was better than most places. Also there is wifi (Internet) here. Decent speeds too.
