We had my sons wedding reception here today, honestly the staff couldn't help enough, nothing was too much trouble. The venue is stunning (perfect for photos too) the food was beautiful and all the service was with a lovely smile and friendly attitude! The bridal suite is beautiful too! We love that there is no internet access aswell, helps you connect with each other properly. Thank you so much 5*
What more can you say about a bar/restaurant/hotel built into the cliffs of the beautiful north east coast line!? A regular of ours with living locally, and always great no matter what the time of year or weather
Love this pub. It is so unusual and quirky being built into the cliff. It's great to sit outside with the lovely views of the sea, pebble/ sand beach and the Rock which is home to hundreds of birds. It is also dog friendly and the staff are lovely too.
Called in for a look, to be honest. My wife is from just along the coast at North Shields and is now living the life of a southerner with her lovely husband ( me lol). While in the area. She had memories of visiting with her mother over fifty years ago as a child. We arrived early just before the 10:00 opening time and went down in the dedicated lift that opened into the bar. That is hewed into the cliff face and is unique in many ways. We ordered a coffee and went out to drink it on the private terrace overlooking the shingle beach. We were both amazed by the sheer amount of sea birds flying about. After coffee we had a walk along the beach and a the tide was out I walked over the rocks to look at some caves at the base of a big pillar of rock thing ( I don't think that's the technical name) after our short walk ( 50 years is 50 years) we returned to the bar and had a look round. The place is amazing. Built in caves in the cliffs. There are notices that tell the very interesting history . In afraid I can't comment on the food, as we were pushed for time. But we would like to return and next time stay long enough for a meal
Lovely place to stop for lunch. Worth remembering menu is very much seafood based (perfect for us, but not all). Service could be a little more polished, nothing bad happened, but just noticing who was at the bar first etc... but staff were all friendly enough!
Absolutely unique place to visit that ticks all the boxes for an enjoyable trip. After an elevator ride from the cliff top car park you find yourself in a cave like setting right on the waterfront with views of the beach and nearby cliffs. Service was great and decent beer selection. Lots of outdoor seating with fantastic views and lots of indoor seating inside the cozy cave rooms . Will definitely return when I’m back visiting the area .
If you have never been to Marsden Grotto, you must 👍
We have never stayed in the hotel part, but we regularly visit when in the area for a drink at the bar and a walk along the beach. The exploration of the sea stack is great when the tide is out, and if you like to throw a skimmer or two, you will be in your element.
We have eaten here a couple of times, and the dining caves just add that something special 👌
Parking directly next to the cliff lift is £2 at present, or there is a bigger car park next to it, which I've never parked in, so I can't advise on the price 😄👍
Our second visit this month to the Grotto, a 5 hour, 290 mile round trip, but worth every mile/minute! Stunning location, fantastic food & drinks, very friendly staff and our dogs were welcome too! Cannot speak highly enough of this gem of a place. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Absolutely stunning view.
We sat outside enjoyed our drink and food.
Definitely going back for another drink and meal
Incredible location, feeling blessed to have visited for my first time today. Great views and a lovely sitting area in front of the Marsden Rock. Was greeted and treated very well by the staff, I hope I’m remembering her name correctly, but Anya was delightful and happy to answer any questions I had! 10/10 recommend and will be back again to try the food and wine 🫶🏻
Lovely location. Had the pish fish and chips... everything was lovely apart from the chips that weren't very well cooked , maybe as they were too thick, but still very raw in the middle.
Have to say mushy peas 🫛 😋 just too little on the plate 😊
A little pricey, but captive audience. Nearly £6 for a handful of homemade style chips. Good coffee. Great views. Almost impossible to get a phone signal and there’s no free WiFi unless you’re a BT Internet customer.
