I found the food affordable and pretty delicious. I liked the variety they had as well. The durian puffs were pretty good, but too much fried items made me feel bloated. The shrimp dumplings were filled with 2 shrimps, and that was pleasant. There is a 10% VAT charge as well. I had 11 dishes, and my yotal bill was just under 70 £.

First time at this place in Southampton. Above some shops on the high street. Very good dim sum and the atmosphere is very like some places in Hong Kong.
Will come back next time I am in Southampton.

I have been searching for an authentic Chinese dining experience but it always fell short.
Shanghai bay offers premium quality food at reasonable prices in what feels like a traditional setting for this food.
The portion sizes are gargantuan and the variety of foods they have is equally as big. There will most definitely be something you'll like on the menu.
The staff are some of the best serving staff I've encountered in any restaurant setting, constantly making jokes and keeping it light for everyone to enjoy the food.
I recommend this as the best Chinese food place in Southampton and I challenge you to tell me otherwise.

Authentic Chinese restaurant. Great food, good value for money. As they are very busy quite often they do not take me when I go by myself, but only with minimum a friend. It is a pity as usually in China and other East Asian countries you can share the table with strangers. 这家餐厅很好吃和地道!

This is definitely the best Cantonese cuisine in Southampton without a doubt. Huge portions, delicious food, and great waitstaff. It is a bit pricey, but with the portions you get you could easily have 2-3 meals from a single bowl of noodles. The restaurant itself is also oddly cozy and akin to that of an old Chinese eatery.

A very good Chinese restaurant with Hong Kong style. I miss the food very much. Before I get on a cruise I ate it three times and ate it after the cruise is ended. The dim sum are also very Hong Kong style which is also very good. If anyone miss to go for dim sum when you travel, I highly recommended this restaurant.

Found this Chinese restaurant on the off chance by googling restaurant near me. The menu is extensive and has traditional Chinese dishes plus a section of English Chinese dishes.
The restaurant is on the first floor and is decorated in red and gold's as you'd expect. There were a lot of Chinese families having meals together, and that made me feel that it was as authentic as it could be.
The service was friendly and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend it and come back to again.

A good restaurant with above average quality dim sum and reasonable price. It's located at Above Bar Street and no parking is available.

A popular place to eat but a little hidden, you could easily walk past it. Just on the high street of Southampton, next to West Quay and other shops including Primark opposite. Always get great service here and delicious food. Variety of options to choose from a table with a turntable in the middle makes it easier for a large group.

Was in Southampton for the first time with my family. Found this restaurant on Google. I like how it’s upstairs just like HK. The menu had dim sum which was amazing as usual in London finishes at 4pm. We were there at 8pm for dinner and ordered a lot of food. Disappointed that there was no more duck but maybe next time. The food was amazing, good portions and was filling. Cooking was authentic and we all enjoyed it. If We’re back in Southampton again we’re be back to dine. The bill is so much reasonable than London too

Very authentic Hong Kong cuisine. I have no doubt highly recommended to everyone who would like to try something authentic without travelling all the way to Hong Kong. I ordered three dishes:
1. Fried fish fillet with tofu served with rice and vegetables. This is one of my favourite dish since my childhood. Not a lot of restaurants serve this dish these days.
2. Yangzhou fried rice or special fried rice. This has been beautifully cooked as the key of this dish is each rice is dried in a way that won’t stick together. They use a little bit too much dark sauce, no so much of an issue.
3. Sweet and sour spare ribs. I like the balance between the sweetness and sourness of the sauce. The pineapple added an additional fruity flavour to the sauce. Ribs are cut into the smaller pieces which makes it easier to eat.
All dishes above was cooked with high heat which gives a lot of wok hai to the dish. Portion is very generous.
The only downside is it comes with a slightly higher price tag. In average about £14 per dish.

Service was warmth and friendly. Really busy at peak time so booking for a big group is recommended. Have quite a few choice of food which is really authentic. Strongly recommend.

Lovely food and a great price. Always busy (often a long wait to get in) . Otherwise GREAT. Definitely a hidden gem.

Cannot wait to go back....the staff are very friendly and fingers crossed they don't get a lot of rude Cantonese customers! Ms Y is a delight, she reminds me of what good customer service used to be - suggests the house specialties and no fake smiles. Of course they will not be busy if food wasn't up to standards -- the 3 Roast Meat is very good, Singapore Fried rice is just like at home....dimsum makes us wish we can try everything! The cheung fun was tender and flavourful with the fritter inside, Pork and Chive also very good...this is why we need to go back as seems like other tables' orders all looked amazing.

What a great restaurant.
We had superb Dim Sum accompanied by quick efficient service.
The Dim Sum is the best I have had in the UK, proper fillings and a wide variety to choose from.
Excellent.
