The gluten free beer actually tastes really good! I'm not coeliac but my girlfriend is so by default I have tried quite a few gluten free beers and most of them are pretty dire. Unexpected on the other hand is great, to the point where I will quite happily nick a few out the fridge if I get the chance. Keep it up Driftwood.
Driftwood Spars does a gluten free beer called "Unexpected." It is really tasty... a light, refreshing, not-too-hoppy ale. My non-coeliac partner likes it as well! It is made of sorghum instead of barley, so it is well and truly gluten free. You can order a case of it online - bonus!!
No trip to Cornwall is complete without stocking up on some of these tasty ales !!
We had lunch outside. Staff are helpful and food arrived quickly. Food was reasonably priced and really nice. Some drinks can be a bit pricey. The view is amazing. We were there for the open mic session, the atmosphere was buzzing.
Though the car park is small and street parking is limited we were able to parked easily. Parking for up to 3 hours is reasonable, beyond that it gets expensive. This probably contributes to the availability of spaces. There is a discount up to £5.50 if you spend £10 in the pub, or free if you are staying there. However, the voucher we were given would not scan and we didn't really want to mess around getting someone to sort it.
A short walk down a very steep road leads to the bay, where you can chill on the beach, swim or even go surfing.
Despite my minor grumbles, this place is well worth a visit and deserving of 5 star rating.
Range of beers excellent.
Location fab.
It was very busy so suggest booking. Staff were very nice and working their socks off but needed at least one more bar staff.
Didn't dine but food looked very good but expensive.
Cornwall is really busy, everywhere... But St Agnes is a hidden little gem. Buzzing, but not overrun. Driftwood Spars is the perfect place to stay. Firstly, there's parking, which helps... But... It's child friendly, dog friendly and people friendly. The staff are AMAZING. Super kind, super lovely and really looked after us. The room was great with everything we need. Location wise, you have the beach 1 minute away, cliff walks, St Agnes town up the hill and Schooners right on the beach. It's a vibrant little pub as well, and a restaurant. The only slight disappointment for me was the food, as seeing the posts shared and tagged by the chef I thought it would be really high end, but still alright. The dipping sauce for the squid and the cheese board were fantastic. Plus.... all made better by some amazing friendly service. We will 100% be back!
My wife and I ate here every day and the food and beers were first class. The staff were very efficient and professional but also had a relaxed and friendly manner. Paige, especially, was lovely and always had a smile on her face! We’ll definitely be back and we’ll stay there as well so we can try the breakfasts.

Located in a very beautiful scenic area of St. Agnes, Cornwall. Dog-friendly pub with very good atmosphere.
The menu is really impressive with great seafood options. Lovely service by the staff who are every friendly and helpful.
Great parking space and they validate parking too.
A great little find at the end of our walk to St Agnes from Perranporth. We had a lovely lunch and lazy afternoon at the Crib Shack at Driftwood Spars. The Mussels were amazing, but it was the dressed crab that blew us away, best of the holiday! Staff all lovely and looked after visitors well.
Having walked the coastal path in blisteringly hot weather, reaching the Driftwood Spars was a bit like finding an oasis in the desert. Brilliantly cold drinks, help yourself water tap (much appreciated), good food, great staff. Their skin-on chips were incredible and their burgers were worth the money. A worthy stop should you find yourself in the area, and very close to the beach!
My fav place to have a drink in St Agnes. I come here several time for amazing beer choice and the Sunday roast is the best. My daughter said it was the best she has ever had and amazing portions.
Couple of very comfortable night spent here, loved that it was merely 50 metres from the cove, great service, rooms really well decked out and impeccable free parking and easy access.
As always this place is friendly reliable and sells great beers. The view of the cove beautiful.
Food was amazing, surprised us and good labels for allergies (except the specials but they found out fast)
Fish n chips looked only ok but chose something more exciting!
Excellent, staff so nice. Very good beet, fantastic location too. Dog friendly.
Discovered this fantastic pub while traveling along the coast on new years day. Our Sunday dinner was amazing the best we've had in a long time. Staff was amazing love how they brought a jug of water while we decided what we wanted to eat and drink these little touches really make for a lovely relaxed experience. Loved everything about your pub and can't wait to visit again 😀 5*
Lovely pub. Very nice atmosphere and great for dogs and dog lovers. The chips and onion rings are some of the best I've ever had and very reasonable. Also a great selection of ales and ciders, really recommend the snail's bank mango cider. Friendly service too.
Update: returned for fish and chips, and a Sunday roast. They didn't have the gluten free Yorkshire puddings but everything else was fantastic, the roast was so generous we had to take some home with us.
Popped in for a quick drink as I'd been meaning to for ages but it's always mega busy in St Agnes during the peak time, so I waited until all the tourists have gone. Absolutely lovely cosy bar area in the lower deck, wish I could've stayed longer, I could've sat there for hours, (a cab next time I think). Saw the fish n chips from a distance as it was delivered to a table on the other side of the bar, looked and smelt lovely. I tried a pint if one if their in house brews, a really nice pint of dark ale, smoke taste, loved it but I've forgotten it's name 🤦 Will be back soon to try again, highly recommended. Quick shout out to Jason, (I think?), behind the bar, had a nice personality!
Second evening here at The Driftwood. Thanks to Chef and staff, amazing fish and chips. Great atmosphere. Thank you. Russell & Jenny
