Review The Old Bear Inn - Staverton

1st time here for food and drink. What can I say just wow, all the staff are just so friendly and very helpful. The food is just unreal. My partner had the fish and chips and she said it's the best one she had

Having not been to the bear in a long while and seeing that it’s under new management we decided to give it a go. We took our 11 month old son, and were immediately greeted by friendly staff. A high chair was in place for us and our drinks order was taken promptly. Upon ordering food we were presented with fantastic looking meals, extremely well presented. These meals were top class. All of us enjoyed what we ordered, it was obvious that it had been prepared and cooked by a quality chef. 10/10 would visit again, and highly recommend.

Went to the bear this evening with my partner and son, very accommodating for my 11month old who is dairy free! The food was incredible - what a turn around the place has had. Definitely recommend to anyone - cater for all needs and the staff were friendly and the service was great! We will definitely be returning!

We were in the area for a family day out and saw the good reviews of this place and thought we would give it a try. So glad we did! We received such a warm welcome even though we had our baby and dog with us. The food was delicious, we went for the Sunday roast and everything was delightful. So glad we stumbled across The Old Bear Inn and we will definitely be back when we are next in the area.

Visited here yesterday evening for a birthday dinner. Arrived early but we’re seen too and seated by our waitress. Drinks ordered and before long our starters arrived. My partner had the prawns and I had the scotch egg, both absolutely delicious. We then went for the Old Bear Burgers and agin the food was spot on. Portions were generous and the food really tasted like some love went into it. Would highly recommend, the paintings on the wall and the wood beams really added to the place alongside the various artworks on display on the walls! Would visit again if in the area!

Excellent all round but shame for pub is that roadworks outside affecting custom! Walk there and enjoy! Customers will help them survive

Lovely Sunday roast. Kids liked their meals. Bit of a trot from the canal but hunger motivates.

Came here on a Friday night. Nice atmosphere in the pub, kind service which was appreciated even thought there was only 2 of them. Good starter of white bait, but the Duck was phenomenal! Would highly recommend for an evening out.

Lovely place, food excellent and service very good. Highly recommended.

Eaten here a few times. Can’t fault the food & service. Surprised it’s not that busy! We will be back for a Sunday lunch because we’ve heard it’s 😋

Working away and needing a place that's not the normal eatery. This is a really lovely place, nice outside space to eat and drink. Had a tasty meal which was good value. Unfortunately they forgot to bring out some of our extras at the time of service so we had to wait a little longer than anticipated. Highly recommended as this place has a lovely atmosphere.

The menu is good and the food is delicious. The serving staff are really friendly. For some unknown reason they don't appear to keep white wine in a fridge so on 2 separate occasions now its been served to me warm. It could easily be 5 stars if they served their white wine chilled.

Lovely pub a short walk from the canal. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and the service was excellent. The food was very good, really exceeded our expectations of a pub dinner. Our dog was welcome and there were many other doggy friends for him to meet. It's a shame we live so far away because we would definitely like to go back.

Great pub and great food! Had an impromptu Saturday lunch for 7 - lovely area outside and - whilst we stopped for sandwiches which looked good - we were happy to upgrade to the very reasonable 2/3 course menu. Great selection and all high quality. Good beer too.

Fantastic pub just a 10 minute stroll from the canal. The meals were beautifully presented and piping hot. Excellent choices and very healthy servings. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. If we are passing again we would definitely stop here.

Went on a Sunday for Roast dinner and was definitely not disappointed. I had the roast belly pork, which fell apart at the touch of the fork and the crackling was crackling, lovely and crispy and with homemade apple sauce too, yum. Served with roast potatoes yorkshire pudding and a large sharing bowl of mixed vegetables. I really wanted the fresh fruit cheesecake for pudding but seriously could not manage after such a sumptuous meal, so I took it away and had it later, that also did not disappoint.. All in all a very good experience, lovely friendly staff, great food , very reasonably priced, I will definitely be returning.

I visited The Old Bear lunchtime on Thurs 21/12/17 with my daughter. We both had a smaller portion size Christmas Turkey dinner and it was excellent. There was sufficient turkey, stuffing and a pig n blanket, lovely roast tatoes and parsnips, sprouts, carrots and surprise, surprise, spiced red cabbage which was absolutely divine! Worth five stars for the red cabbage alone! We both managed to fit some Marshfield Ice cream down us to round off the dinner. Good place that does a nice pint of Doombar too!

Very expensive for what we got! Wife had vegetarian lasagna for £12 and it was served in a very small dish and I had 3 very small pieces of chicken wrapped in Parma ham a a small mound of veg for £14! Would I eat here again? No

Myself and my partner have been here 4 weeks running every Sunday and even took the family last week. Food is absolutely gorgeous and the staff are so friendly! Booking in today for our 5th Sunday lunch in a row here. The carvery is so well run (served in 2 sittings) no long queues or noise - beautifully decorated room to sit and enjoy your meal! See you sunday! Lucy and aarron (jones)

Visited this evening for my birthday, made us chuckle that the table card said the Tall family Service was fantastic, very refreshing approach, and the starters were incredible. They have the best carvery around.

We had our wedding reception here and can highly recommend it! The room was 'dressed' beautifully! The food we chose, with some help from Jo, was fantastic! Everything was perfect and we couldn't have asked for a more fantastic day!

We went for a birthday treat, all staff were so friendly. I took my 4 year old and they brought out a smaller knife and fork for her which was a lovely touch. Definitely worth a visit. Food was lovely too. Thank you we well back again.

A lovely place to have a beautiful Sunday roast. It's a Carvery too, so you can have as much or as less as you want. Staff are friendly and they welcome families too, which is fabulous. 👌
