Review Loch Bay Restaurant - Stein

What an evening we had there. Everything was perfect. From the locally foraged seafood to the service, the attention to details and complexity of flavor were amazing. I truly feel this is a special place, even having experienced hundreds of restaurants all over the world.

We were looking forward to our dining experience for months and I desperately wanted to love it. The hard-to-reach location starts the "I discovered this gem that no one else knows about" feeling. There were some imperfections but not enough to dampen the experience or prevent a return visit. Still, with the price point and Michelin star, they should be mentioned. The twice dived scallops had a citrus infused scallop and a seared scallop - the seared scallop was slightly overcooked but my companion had a perfectly cooked scallop - so I would have ignored this transgression but for the monkfish being slightly overcooked as well. I proceeded with the wine pairings which, for the price point, seemed well selected - I may have opted for a different selection with the lobster course but it was in the ballpark. Service was impeccable and given the reputation and my dining experience I would return to try again.

In August I had the pleasure of going back to Lochbay again for the third time and if you are a seafood lover you won't be disappointed. Lochbay is about a local as it get can. Excellent local seafood paired with lovely and experienced staff who have all worked there since the beginning. The atmosphere is very cosy as the restaurant has only 18 seats. Yes you have to book in advance. A real hidden gem in the heart of the lovely little village Stein. Would return in a heartbeat and thanks so much for that memorable experience.

Well a new season in 2023 and another evening made so special. Simply exquisite menu where every dish is simply perfect. The very best service you could ever wish for. Surrounded by the stunning scenery the friendly staff make you welcome from first to last. The food also taking the very best the local area has to offer and then lifting the flavours so carefully. Many many thanks for a great evening

Outstanding. Remote location which is settled within a row of fisherman cottages. Cosy, romantic and professional. We arrived during the covid fallout. Only 2 staff - chef Michael Smith and front of house. Both looking after 4 tables. Everything was respectful, friendly and unpretentious. We were lucky to experience a seafood extravaganza of a tasting menu. As expected the ingredients and produce is fresh and matched with delightful wines. Chef treats you to a flavourable trip around Skye's best offerings from the sea. In particular the happiness of tasting the Langoustine bisque will stick in the memory. Then we were later spoiled with a half bay lobster with chanterelles. I understand the buzz surrounding the restaurant and it certainly backs this up. Enjoy.

One of, if not the best best fish restaurants I've eaten at. Some incredibly creative twists on very fresh local produce. Excellent service well deserving its Michelin rating.

This place is all that is right about the food scene in Scotland. Amazing local produce cooked to perfection. The seafood was incredible. It’s a nice relaxed and slightly less formal setting in beautiful Stein in Waternish. The food is simply stunning and would recommend the tasting menu. This place deserves all the plaudits it has rightly been receiving. The bar selection is also fantastic and the service was perfect. Book a trip to Skye to come here!

Loved our dinner here and everything about the restaurant - it's small, sited in a beautiful location and with a fantastic view, service is bang on, and, as it should be, the food is the point. They know what they're doing and we'd definitely travel back to eat here again.

Had a wonderful experience at loch bay. The food was superbly prepared and the combination of the different foods was extraordinary. The service was great and the atmosphere is cosy since there are only around 20 seats. The location is quite remote If you're not staying in the village. A must go when visiting isle of Skye. Remember to book well in advance.

Beautiful little restaurant in a beautiful little village. Fresh produces were well seasoned, cooked, presented and the food-wine pairing was spot on. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the experience, which is one highlights of our trip to Scotland last May.
