Probably the best pub you can enjoy in Essex. Great drinks, great atmosphere and food is second to none! Far more than one expects from pub food - this is something else!! Thoroughly recommended!

Love The Hoop! I had a lovely 40th birthday meal upstairs in the restaurant with 11 of my friends - beautiful surroundings, fantastic and friendly service too! Food was amazing. We also enjoy the pub food downstairs - one of our favourite places to eat or just to have a drink xx

As you walk in you get the atmosphere of a local country pub and Gastro pub. The food was amazing and of a very high standard for bar food. Well presented and the taste was so good (whole wild duck and game faggot). The bar staff were very helpful and friendly. A must for all foodies.

Best Sunday lunch I've eaten. The beef was so tender and cooked to perfection. The roast potatoes, gravy, yorkshire pudding, veggies, all cooked beautifully. Portion sizes are very good too. The prawn and crab starter, delicious. The pudding, vanilla ice cream and a chocolate brownie was perfect. Superb service too and even though I only mention in passing it was a birthday meal for my friend they served some chocolates at the end with Happy Birthday on the plate too. Brilliant, thank you.

Most definately the best Sunday roast beef dinner I’ve ever had! Service was great too. Lovely little gem, and got to sit by the fire which was great as snowing outside- top marks! Can’t wait to go back!

Never been here before , was recommended by our clients.... we was in dirty work clothes and probably stunk of sweat! But the two girls behind the bar (one only started today!) were very polite and welcoming talked us through the menu and specials.. food was great! Lovely experience thank you and when in the area again we will definitely be coming back xx

... the Hoop offers high quality pub food done really well. If Michelin ever were to bother venturing out I’m fairly certain they would be awarded a Bib gourmand as the food, service & surroundings is on par with some of the better pubs we’ve eaten at.

The best pub restaurant in Essex. The Hoop is by far the best pub / restaurant in Essex in our opinion. We have been numerous times and it never fails to disappoint. Michelle and all of her staff are fantastic. We have eaten great food here but todays was an absolute stand out. We had the prawns from the specials menu and wow what a dish. 4 huge Argentinian Prawns in garlic butter cooked to perfection. With skinny fries, bread and a crisp salad. Service amazing as always. Absolutely fantastic. Thanks guys. See you soon.

I had not visited the hoop for a long time and I was pleasantly surprised. The parking hasn’t changed it’s either on the road or at the hall car park which is free and a sub 5 minute walk. The food was absolutely delicious, actually nicer than a Michelin 2 star I recently visited in London. Downstairs felt cozy and buzzy as it’s right next to the bar but upstairs was equally as nice and very well decorated. Service was helpful and timely, the ladies were knowledgeable on the dishes and timing was spot on when to ask if anything was needed. Food and drink was priced fairly - not cheap not expensive. Will revisit - Thank you!

Gorgeous, atmospheric old pub with an excellent chef! My partner and I had lunch here on a sunny Saturday with my parents to celebrate a birthday. First time we’d been, but I’d heard great things. We were super impressed. Waiting staff who couldn’t do enough to help ( and plenty of them so you never had to hunt around for someone, despite them being really busy), lovely wine list with lots but the glass, great selection of beers on tap, and a really lovely balanced menu - if you want to push the boat out for some something fancy then you can, or you can stick to the great selection of pub classics. I had the king prawns, which I can highly recommend. We’re just back from a holiday in the Med and these prawns were better than any I had out there! My dad had the toad in the hole, which was spectacular! I could go on. Can’t rate this place highly enough. We ate indoors but the garden looked lovely especially if you’ve got kids with you.

Excellent pub and great food.I had the pie and mash which was excellent. The only problem is the parking as you need to park in the road as near to the pub as you can get. That said the staff were really polite and helpful and the food arrived soon after ordering.

The only thing this place has against it is the lack of parking. If you're unlucky enough not to get a space directly outside the pub you're in for a short walk from the nearest place you can find. This isn't an issue for most but we were with elderly people and wasn't ideal. Once at the venue you'll find a very covid aware place to eat and drink with ample sanitisation for all. The table service is fast and efficient and the food is of a very high quality. All the waiting staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and are confident in their opinion of the food. The portion size is fair and is well cooked so no complaints there however drinks seem slightly over priced with Guinness for example £5 a pint where's my local £4.50 so not to bad. The outside seating is easily accessible to the disabled so that's a bonus. Overall this is a place I would visit again as I know the food is of a very good standard.

We turned up today without a booking but Michelle found us a table luckily. Thank you 🙏 The food was superb as usual. Ham Egg and Chips and Katsu curry for us. The sausage roll for starter was amazzzzing. Like pulled pork. Mmmmmmmm 👌 The Hoop is by far the best pub near Billericay.

The food quality is decent, yet some dishes had small portions. Service efficient with pleasant friendly staff. Prices for both dishes and drinks pricey. Disappointing as 3 out of 4 in our group chose The Hoop for one particular dish, that other reviewers had recommended. Sadly after a 35 mile drive it wasn't available blaming delivery issues.

A truly delightful pub & restaurant in the heart of a small village with a great local feel . This is probably the best way to describe this place . Situated in the village of Stock in Ingatestone this local pub was a really great way to spend the afternoon. Although I new the area I didn't really know about this place until the Essex. Feast book was published and saw that they were in it I then made a few enquiries to which I was advised to pay them a visit so on Sunday of we went. On our arrival we decided to have a drink in the bar where they have a good selection of Real Ales and you immediately sense the great local atmosphere and friendly nature which is continued with the staff who's greeting is warm and friendly. There is plenty of room in the bar area for eating you just have to wait for a free table or as we did you can book a table in the Oak Room Restaurant which is situated upstairs where the friendliness of the place extends. On a Sunday they offer a 3 course lunch for £25 which turned out to be excellent value for money. We were then seated and started to look at the menu and even though offer about half a dozen other main dishes I think having seen the roast dinners in the bar it was going to be an easy decision. We started with the Citrus Cured Salmon and the Scotch Egg & Sausage Roll both very tasty Then it was time for the mains and yes we both had a fantastic roast dinner and without doubt one of the best I've had for a long while the Pork was a lovely thick cut which was juicy and tender with fantastic Crackling and the Beef was also perfectly cooked as were the accompaniments definitely a hearty roast dinner worth the visit by itself Before we ventured on to desserts a rest was needed and looking at the desserts it was hard to choose but after getting the advice of each one we decided to have the Apple & Pear Tart & I just had to have the Bread & Butter Pudding both served with thick custard and Clotted Cream Ice Cream and as like the previous courses were amazing and a great way to finish before relaxing with a coffee Well I can honestly say I'll be paying more visits to the Hoop and especially would like to attend one of there Tasting Menu evenings. So if really good pub food with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere then this is a place I would highly recommend

Excellent food and service! Very good pub food indeed 👍 would go more frequently, however it’s very popular and gets booked quickly. Stand out dish for me is the nduja bread off the nibbles section. Also the cauliflower cheese is a superb!! Mmm 😋

A faultless place to enjoy a Sunday roast and have a few drinks. I've been back time and again. The village of Stock is beautiful and a great place for a quick dog walk as well.
