Reviews of Gables

Me and the missus had food here this afternoon, what can I say? Lovely stuff! I had a mixed grill which was extremely nice and my other half had a really good southern fried chicken burger which I think I'll have next time as it looked tasty! I'm so glad this place finally has a manager who knows what she's doing, hoping she stays on for a good long time to come!

Had a fantastic night out at The Gables last night. Friday night get together with close friends and family had a lovely meal, kids very well catered for and Kelly the bar maid was lovely. Welcomed us straight away with a friendly smile having remembered us from the open Mike night the previous day, saw that we had a baby in the group so brought over a high chair. Turned into a night of singing and dancing with a karaoke on the go. All the staff wonderful and joined in with all the fun even hugged us when we left. Pub full of lovely people all having a great night. This pub is working hard to come back to life please help it and support it.

The reviews are complete nonsense!!! This pub is one of the best pubs I come to all the time. The staff are extremely polite and friendly. If you have any issues at all with your food they sort it out for you immediately, the kids bouncy castle is up all afternoon on sunny days too and kids can be heard laughing all outside In the play area along with people with dogs coming along as its dog friendly (they even have a dog treats jar inside and dog water bowls that they fill up with water and ice whenever you ask) . I had the rocky road ice cream and atlantic cod and chips a few days ago and let me tell you its to die for here (Amber, extremely polite bar staff member by the way!! you did great choosing her !! , makes the BEST rocky road and always asks us if we have enjoyed our meal and to have a nice day) !!! Krystal (a bar staff member) is so polite and her catering to the public is lovely. Kelly (bar staff member) is an amazing dancer and is full of laughter and sunshine and knows all the shots deals on a fri and sat night like the back of her hand!!. Alan (the events manager) is an amazing pool player after watching him play from across the room with multiple members of the public . And Caroline (manager) is an amazing chef as well as being important asset to the pub who never stops doing something. And Tracy (bar staff member) is ALWAYS cleaning and tidying up making it lovely for families. Would highly recommend to anyone I know. Thankyou the Gables for having us another time 😊 we will be here again soon!!

Edit to previous review. New management!! Went in tonight and had a lovely mixed grill and chicken burger with my wife. Staff were friendly and the pub was clean and inviting. It goes to show that when you have the right people in charge that the Gables is well worth a visit. Give them a go and pop in. 👍👍👍👍👍👍 10/10 Can't really give a review as we never got chance to sample the food and ended up walking out. Bar staff seemed to be in disarray with a nearly empty pub. Didn't listen to us when asking us a question so we were left stood at the bar watching everyone around us get served.. This didn't fill us with confidence for the food so decided to leave. If I can leave 1 piece of advice. 4 members of staff behind the bar and only 1 serving?? Acknowledge customers when they come in and don't leave them standing. Run the bar with order, know who's next and when asking a customer if they want food or drinks and when the answer is both don't walk off and start serving another customer.

Arrived just as a bunch of drunks were kicking off outside. Go in and go to the bar for a drink but get told to take a seat. 10 mins pass and nothing. 4 waitresses are gladly chatting away by the bar and spot us looking over a few times..... Still nothing. Went to the bar and barman said which of these girls would you like to serve you. "neither mate. I'll go to the Black Lake" Useless. Much preferred it when you walked in ordering your food from the bar. The Black Lake on hilderstone level on the other hand was 5 star.

Two for One Table Service?. Fancied a really cheap pub meal, and had been to The Gables before, so knew what to expect. However, this time, they'd starting doing table service in some kind of attempt at providing a decent level of service. I was slightly taken back by the fact they've started doing table service, and even more taken back with how shocking it was! - Really, don't waste your money paying people to do this, it's really not worth doing if you're not going to go it well.<br/><br/>The young waitress was lovely enough, but very poorly trained and the food seemed as though it had been reheated; for example mushy peas were dry?!<br/><br/>The state of cleanliness had really gone out of the window too. Glasses were dirty and the toilets were horrible with graffiti daubed all over the cubicle doors.<br/><br/>It's a shame, it used to be a nice venue!
