Have been here a couple of times before. Not a traditional 'chippy' but sells a good range of wet fish. My wife and I had 2 cups of the smoked fish chowder which was very tasty and had plenty of smoked haddock. I also had a crab sandwich which was again very nice with mainly brown meat in thick brown bread. You can dine in, or in their outside area, not paying VAT. The cost was very reasonable, and I'd certainly go back.
I've always had a good experience of the food at Latimer's. Lovely seafood and breakfast sandwiches. They have some seating inside and outside. Service is always friendly and informative. If you're a fish fan you should try the fish pasty and the kipper in a bun with an egg on. If you don't like fish there is always something on the breakfast menu for you.
I popped down with my wife and we both had a prawn sandwich in some locally baked bread. The sandwiches were absolutely superb. There was also a great choice of crisps, drinks and cakes to accompany them.
What a wonderful find! Had an amazing Vienna roll filled with hot smoked salmon, prawns and crayfish! Delicious! Husband had a smoked fish pasty that he enjoyed. Great coffee too and very friendly service. We sat outside in a lovely sheltered seating area. We then went to the fish shop and bought various seafood items to make up a seafood platter to take home - so fresh and absolutely delicious! Again, great service. Would definitely recommend 😊
It is self-service, so there is not much point in rating service. The service in making the food was good and speedy so it was easy to order and eat quickly. Very tasty, fresh seafood, which is an absolute treat and well worth the visit. Great to sit out in the sun and enjoy local produce.
We had garlic king prawns with fries, and chowder. Both were lovely, the fish was nice and fresh. We sat outside; it feels a bit like you're sitting in the car park, but this can't be helped. Overall we enjoyed our meals.
We regularly visit Latimers from Teesside, because their seafood is outstanding. They have lovely staff, fresh fish and usually unmatched sandwiches.
I firstly want to say the above still stands, however the past couple of visits have been a bit of a disappointment.
I’m not too sure what’s going on with the bread they now use for their prawn sandwiches, but it’s not their usual standard. It’s such a shame as we’ve been visiting for ages. I thought maybe they’d ran out of their usual bread but we visited on Saturday (11/06/23) and it’s still the same? I’ve noticed this has been mentioned before on another review below.
Unfortunately it’s now no longer worth the half hour journey, I’m a bit gutted to be honest ☹️
We always spent quite a bit too.
Absolutely brilliant place, set on the sea front of Whitburn. Freshly prepared seafood, including dressed lobster and crabmeat. You can buy chowder/ crab and prawn sandwiches at the 'window', as well as hot and cold drinks....assorted fresh fayre. Inside the deli, Aladdin's cave springs to mind... it's a fish and crustacean lover's dream! Staff are so friendly and helpful. The fish products are handled with such care. Condiments and accompaniments are also available to purchase.
Great place for fresh fish, great selection available and if uncertain just ask the staff they'll happily help. Cafe has a variety of fish offerings from crab sandwiches to fish chowder.
They are only doing takeaway at the moment. But it elevates the concept of takeaway to another level. Absolutely delicious and totally special. We got the dressed crab box . It wasn't cheap but it was great value. Two dressed crab, six large prawns, two trays of prawns, smoked mackerel, stottie, mayo and loads of lemon. Next time we will get the lobster box.
