Review The King's Head - Sutton Valence

The food portions were large and tasty (a little too large for us, but luckily we came with a dog who kindly polished off what we couldn’t finish). The service was excellent - I haven’t had service like that where the staff are incredibly attentive in a long while - every time the glass was almost empty, they were asking if we wanted more drinks. They checked on the food on two occasions and the staff were both really friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere too was incredible - the pub is cosy and a cool space to sit in. My only criticism, which isn’t worthy of losing any stars, was the music. It was an odd mix of Cher, Ollie Murrs and Kate Nash, so did feel a little dated in 2023. But because the food and service was so good, I’m more than happy to return even though the music felt a bit odd. It really was such a nice lunch - thank you!

Great place. I had already eaten, so I only had a bowl of freshly cooked crisp, which were amazing. Absolutely lovely staff and whole place beautiful decor and atmosphere. Will definitely go again for a meal as food is locally sourced and selection extensive

Took my family here for Sunday lunch. The food was extremely good and you can really taste and see the quality. Great garden, dog friendly and helpful. Polite staff and all at a reasonable price for the quality.

Lovely pub with a very calm atmosphere; great for date night, or out with friends. The fireplace looks amazing, but we were whisked to our table on arrival, so no opportunity to experience it firsthand. The menu, recently refreshed, was very simple but had great choices on offer. I opted for the chicken and parma ham ballotine followed by the pork belly.... both were very good, although I wasn't 100% convinced by the pak choi served with it.... it didn't quite fit, but was still tasty, nonetheless. My partner started with the soup du jour.... a rich, foamy, earthy mushroom soup, and then the burger. Now, this burger was an inch thick, plus bacon and cheese and salad.... plus the bun, and massive triple-cooked chips. It was HUGE! Big enough to feed a family of three for a week, it seemed. Whilst it tasted good, because it was so thick, it felt a little dry, so be sure to have extra sauce on the side.... but if you can't finish it, the staff (who were excellent, by the way) will wrap it for you. We washed the food down with a splendid shiraz.... light, fruity and not too heavy (on the pallet, or the wallet), but were too full for desserts. Maybe next time?

Seriously, we just had the best meal in years at this lovely pub. And I’m seriously fussy. Staff so friendly and welcoming; beautiful interior design… great drink selection, and the food… absolutely 5 star - well done Kings Head!!

Absolutely wonderful dining experience at the Kings Head in Sutton Valence. The cream of broccoli soup was delicious and the trio roast allowed me to sample 3x perfectly cooked meats. Better still, as we were a large group of 3x families catching up, the management allowed us to use the Ikkaddu private function room which provided an even more relaxed and enjoyable experience. Will be returning again shortly.

Edited to add the boulangerie, open Friday and Saturday mornings, 7-10am. The croissants have become a weekly treat for me and the bread and muffins ae great too. Do yourself a favour, stop in and make a purchase! Visited for a family dinner on a Saturday evening. Service was great and food was delicious. My only comment is that for the venison dish, there could be way less meat and more vegetables and sauce instead.

Fantastic gourmet pub. Good atmosphere, excellent decor, polite and friendly staff. The food is out of this world. Food and drinks reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit.
