Review The Rusty Bike Cafe - Swainby

Me and my friends were visiting the area and we wanted to go bike riding and we found this beautiful place. John the owner was so kind and helpful. John went above and beyond to help us and assist us with our bike hire. John even asked if he could come along to guide us so we don't get lost which was amazing. John even gave us all the history of the area too, which was a bonus! He is the best! Definitely recommend this place!

Eco friendly place, popular with cyclists and locals. Good coffee and bacon sandwich’s. Perfect home made scones.

It's a nice place to pop in for a coffee & cake or tray bake, comfy chairs & good music. It is a very popular spot for the cycling community, on street parking was fine as it was relatively quiet but I imagine it's a different story on a sunny weekend. I'll give that a try when the weather picks up. There is a nice relaxed feeling here (mid week and raining) - as if you could easily stay for a good couple of hours and not be rushed out. I bet it will be buzzing on warmer days.

I love this place so much I’m there nearly everyday! So cosy, homely and warm. Coffee is lovely and the cakes and bacon sandwiches are to die for. Hope it’s here forever!

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the delightful charm and culinary excellence of The Rusty Bike Cafe in Swainby, and it's safe to say that this hidden gem has earned a permanent spot in my heart. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was captivated by the warm and inviting ambience that perfectly complemented the rustic yet modern decor. The Rusty Bike Cafe stands out not only for its welcoming atmosphere but also for its exceptional food quality. The menu, a thoughtful blend of classic favourites and innovative creations, showcases the culinary expertise of the chefs who have a passion for crafting memorable dining experiences. My the way, the cakes are wonderful.

Fantastic cafe for cyclists and non cyclists. Hidden gem. Run by a cyclist so understands our needs. Bike hire available. Great place for walkers. Dog friendly. Best coffee in the area. The spicy Tomato soup with a cheese scone is to die for and I normally hate tomato soup. Does some unusual beverages and snacks not available elsewhere.

Lovely little cafe with a homely atmosphere. Very popular with cyclists. I had a bacon sandwich which was very good quality bacon, and cooked well. Also had a coffee that was also good, with gingerbread syrup. They also have good cakes, which we took to go

This is a great little cafe, especially for cyclists, tucked in close to the North Yorks Moors. The cafe was warm and inviting, with friendly and helpful staff. I think they could possibly reduce the covid measures they have in place now, in line with other establishments. The beans on toast came with really nice chunky bread, plenty of butter, and a decent amount of beans. However, serving them on a paper plate and a paper bowl for the beans. The hot chocolate and tea were both decent but the hot drinks were expensive: I really fail to see how any cafe can justify £3.50 for an americano in a paper cup, or a tea for £2.75 in a paper cup, for that matter. In fact, some of the prices were a jit strange. Not only were the hot drinks overpriced and strangely related, but also the soup of the day was over £6 (presumably, in another paper bowl, or a paper cup), which seems excessive. I fail to understand the reason for the overuse of paper plates, cups, and bowls. If it was an overhang of the covid measures (which the cafe seem keen to continue), then surely they would provide wooden cutlery too instead of the metal versions they provide. Also, if it's to reduce washing up, then why provide metal cutlery? Instead, they are contributing to single-use consumption by using throw-away waxed paper containers.

John runs a great cafe; pit stop for bikers & clearly has a passion for people & biking. A well needed drink after a hot day in the saddle. He even has an original Jack Taylor hung on the wall.

Little gem of a spot in Swainby - warm welcome, decent coffee and a few savoury and sweet vegan options with a couple of plant milks. Prices reasonable too. Great place for me to stop at when out on my motorcycle. Will be back. Thank you x

A perfect rest point for any cyclist in the North Yorkshire Moors. Great coffee and traybakes which are very good value. There's a safe space for bikes and pumps etc should you need them. The young staff are very professional and friendly. I suspect I'll be back many many times.

Fantastic cafe, feels in the middle of nowhere, but actually very close to A19 A very green cafe with a cyclist theme. Amazing coffee and sausage rolls to die for, lovely staff, all furniture is up cycled. Lots of outside seating, a real gem

Drove over for breakfast, but not really many hot options for vegetarians, just beans on toast really. Couple of items on the lunch time seem better options. Didn't mind the paper and cardboard cartons etc, but my hot chocolate was a bit too lively to work that well in the cardboard cup. Homemade cakes are good, can recommend the coffee and walnut cake, decent sized slab. (Biker sized, heh heh) Toasted teacake was OK. Pleasant enough, but a queue soon forms as it's popular here, and the service can be a bit slow. Has outdoor seating at the front, oh and it's dog friendly too. Quirky decor inside with reclaimed wood, hessian furnishings and a woodburner, cycles and whey hey a lhaverlee lil bikie, a 1936 Ariel no less. I smirked at the comment on a review that said this place is popular with "cyclists and motor bikers but don't let that put you off because they were well mannered." We bikers aren't all rufty tufty mafiosa sons of anarchy you know, strange how folk pigeonhole bikers, they're the loveliest, most genial folk I know, bikers. Books... covers...judging, but that's the 'human condition', I guess. Also sells some gorgeous cards by textile designer, Jane Kitching, whose exuberant works adorn the walls too. Yes, I would revisit, it has it's own charm for sure and I like a bit of quirk and homemade always gets a vote from me.

Great quirky cafe. Staff so friendly. Indoor/outdoor eating with car park at rear. Considering this is an ideal cafe for cyclists and walkers and dogs are welcome, the place is immaculate. The scones are delicious and the cakes look lush. Good old Yorkshire Tea, herbal teas and variants of coffee. Soup was also available. Also sell fresh local organic eggs, milk, honey, ice cream and snacks. We went on a Tuesday lunchtime, plenty of staff to cater for customers orders, good to see this and hence no long queues. Highly recommend this cafe if you just want soup or cake and coffee/tea. Also a jar of free doggy treats is available so that your pooch isn't left out. I wonder whether they are limited to what they can sell food wise as there is a pub up the road that does sandwiches and cooked food, and although good, I found to be a bit pricey. Shall be back soon. Thanks for making our visit a pleasurable one!

This place is absolutely fabulous, on a freezing cold day the stove was roaring, heating on, it was so cosy and warm. Staff were very obliging and friendly. Pies and quiches were delicious and cake was scrumptious. Very reasonably priced for delicious, well presented food. The views across the hills are stunning. The cafe is disabled friendly and the toilets are very clean, well equipped and tastefully decorated. This cafe gets 10 out of 10 from us and 11 out of 10 from Mary Wilkinson, my very particular 86 year old mother-in-law. It's in a great location for bikers and walkers. We will be back for more, just riding our bikes there next time. Awesome place, cannot recommend it enough!!

A perfect place to stop off for coffee and cakes. Almost missed it driving past but was blown away by what was inside. A real treat here! Great atmosphere, relaxed, real attention to detail and fabulous views. Loved the interior design. Staff really friendly and welcoming. A delicious range of homemade goodies on offer. Treat yourself to a jar of Helen Hughes' locally produced honey sold here - it's amazing! Can't wait to go back!

Poped in after a 7 mile walk in Osmotherley purely as we seen an advertisement up near cod beck, what with it being a Monday most little tea shops were closed so we thought we would make our way here as it was on the way home... What a quaint little place to grab a brew and a cake, the cappuccino comes with a bike stenciled in the froth which was a nice touch along with the little complimentary short bread you got with your drink which I thought was nice and just added to the experience. The staff were realy friendly and inviting, such pleasent ladies which is what gives it 5 stars for me, would recommend a visit if you are in the area

You don’t have to be a pedal biker to enjoy the Rusty Bike, although it make make it an even better experience. I have visited it on my motor bike and car and found it a very friendly place with sensible prices. If you are in the area give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Lovely warm welcome from staff aswell as open coal fires. The food was delicious, homemade and very resonably priced. They didn't mind dirty boots and very importantly it was 'dog friendly' and provided water and treats for doggy visitors.
