I have just returned from a fantastic weekend at Alvcote. Samual Barlow Pub is absolutely brilliant , great food, great staff run expertly by Madam Barlow. You get a wonderful greeting the moment you step in and, even though the staff are young, their service is top notch. I will return again and again. Keep up the good work everyone.
We have eaten a couple of times, the food is good home made with good portions. It can get busy and sometimes your food seems to take a long time coming... but worth the wait. With the canal side and marina surroundings makes it a very pleasant place.
Been using it since it opened and though there have been changes over the years it's still a nice place to go and sit by the canal, good beer and food so what's not to like haha
its a lovely pub set against the canal , some of the best food i,ve had, friendly staff well worth a visit , large function room up stairs for parties to
Best beer in Tamworth, lovely food and friendly staff!! Plus an amazing gin selection
Great place, good food and nice size portions! Would recommend! Remember though good places get busy so be prepared to be patient!
Ate here today after passing and liking the look of the outside space in the sunshine. We enjoyed a drink on the deck and went inside to sample a beautiful beef dinner, accompanied by great beer and a lovely atmosphere. Great staff and a warm welcome will definitely be returning soon.
It's a Brilliant place to go to the meals are really lovely an the food is bloody gorgeous, highly recommended, it's a very friendly place an is dog friendly too :)
Lovely meal and service, and an excellent selection of gin! Would highly recommend samuel barlows.
Me and my partner have visited many places for food but samuel barlow canalside pub has to be top, decent prices for amazing food
We will be paying another visit soon
Lovely place excellent food 🥘
Highly recommend 👌
We visited on a bank holiday weekend afternoon, and we were not quite sure what we would find, as the information online is largely out of date. The Samuel Barlow is set in a very pleasing location on a delightful stretch of the canal, with a terrace overlooking Alvecote Marina. It could be a real destination dining location with some investment and dedicated management.... but for now, at best, this is only a traditional pub, and certainly not a restaurant. They have not had a permanent chef since lockdown, so they only serve rolls and pasties, which can be heated up if required. Seating outside is comfortable and there is a large canopy for shade. The small number of customers, despite it being a bank holiday weekend, is a good indication of what the pub is like. There were a couple of chaps playing bar billiards inside, and a few people outside, some with dogs. We had a pleasant time sitting in the sun and watching the boats. Bar service (one barman) was friendly and efficient. Parking is strange - part is for the pub and part for the moorings, but neither are well signposted and the pub parking area seems quite small. Sadly, it's not our kind of place, but I hate marking things down, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt in case things improve, and I'm mainly dropping down to 4 because to get inside the pub you have to go past the toilets, and they were very smelly indeed (stale urine). Not a good first impression.
Amazing food, service was quick and the prices were reasonable. The place is dog friendly as well. Lovely area and a great stop off from a walk along the canal. Will definitely be coming back. A lovely little gem.
A nice traditional public house.
A sociable landlord.
The Taylor's Landlord beer is just as it should be.
This pub serves mead.
When for a lovely walk along the canal with the family. Stopped off at the Samuel Barlow for a snack at the halfway point. Just had sides of chips with dips, cheesy chips and onion ring. Really nice portion sizes and reasonably priced too. A good selection of ales too. A great stop off point.
Can't give this place enough stars. Really friendly service, delightful home cooked meals for a good price. Love having a roast here on a Sunday. They have a boat gathering festival every August back holiday weekend which is great to come along to as well, bbq, bands and the like. Really good location on the edge of the marina and you can sit on the balcony emitting the view while you drink your beer. Perfect 👌 👌 👌
Had a fabulous few pints and cheese and onion cob. Great atmosphere and Phil is amazing 🥰
The kitchen isnt doing meals but there are snacks available and choice of beers
These folks really know how to host a weekend party gathering... Great food smashing Ale and friendly staff. Can't wait to go again!
No hot food at present, sandwich only, nice location, work on car park spoils the views, does not look open when you first arrive.
Always like visiting this place. Nice staff, good bear and great outside space on the canal.
Lovely setting, we enjoyed their Burgers and Fish n Chips on our last visit. Previous stop there they had live music.
Great place to get to on the bike from Polesworth and would recommend especially on a sunny day. Booking essential at the moment but it's really easy to do so in their website.
They serve a nice selection of alcoholic drinks.
Fantastic pub stop on our walk. Lovely outside area, fairly priced drinks. Loss of one star because a staff member wouldn’t change the dog water bowl outside as advised “we don’t manage it” which is obviously a bit odd.
We enjoyed a very pleasant Sunday lunch at this canal side pub after mooring up close by. The traditional Sunday roast was served as a generous portion and met with my partner's approval. The service was good and the clientele were friendly and accommodating (we had my eighteen month old granddaughter with us).
Nice pub and staff. Strange way to praise a place but I had a ropey pint of beer and it was changed straight away with no problems and an apology. ( it had gone, not their fault, beer does go manky when it is done). Grub is basic pub grub but very good. The pub is clean tidy and has a nice atmosphere. Well worth a visit.
Great staff a good pint and peaceful.near to nature reserve and dog walks
