Harvester The Griffin

We were lucky enough to attend the opening night at The Griffin. The refurbishment is stunning, it has a spacious yet cosy feel. We were served by Kerry who was excellent throughout the evening, she took our drinks order swiftly and then our food once we were ready, we were a large party. She checked up on us regularly and was extremely helpful. Well done The Griffin on a great refurbishment, I can highly recommend going but advise to book a table to avoid disappointment

Good food, chef was a bit pedantic, as I wanted the ultimate mixed grill but they had no rotisserie chicken left which was part of the meal, Chef was unwilling to swap it for anything else or discount the plate, bit daft if you ask me. Everytime we come for an evening meal here, there is always something of the mixed grill they don't have, think it's about time they looked ordering and stock levels. Waitress was lovely. Food was great, lovely atmosphere, salad was well stocked.

We had a nice meal, no complaints about the food, salad bar was great, staff were friendly. A typical harvester experience in that respect. I personally had the 8oz steak which was cooked brilliantly and it practically melted in my mouth. My partner had one of the vegan burgers which was huge and said it was lovely.

We've turned up without booking in the past, and not been able to get a table, so this time we booked and came early in the evening. We were greeted warmly and seated straight away, at a clean and tidy table. The serving staff were attentive without being demanding. Madame had the salmon which was lightly grilled and properly juicy; I had the half chicken with mash, and a really good (optional) hot sauce. The "unlimited" salad bar is a big draw at Harvesters, and everything there seemed fresh and well stocked (except, strangely, the blue cheese dressing, which must have been very popular). Given the expectation that this is a simple chain restaurant, we were pleased and found the staff pleasant and likeable. The spacious free car parking is a boon.
