Friendly efficient staff, a wonderful airy spacious restaurant with tables looking out to sea, and our children (8 & 12 ) loved the maps in the table tops, and the food. Wow!! Huge cod with chips and peas and scampi and chips all fantastic. Kids meals also great. Perfect size portions. Highly recommend this wonderful place to eat

I'm here from Liverpool visiting family. My sister, myself and my dog visited this lovely place yesterday for lunch. My dog was warmly greeted and given a bowl of fresh water and some treats. A towel was offered to dry him down as we'd come on out of the rain. Food was delicious and service wonderful. X

I have visited with my family a number of times recently and each time the food, service and welcome has been outstanding. The setting is stunning with the sea on one side and the ley on the other. Great new balcony area to. Children are always made very welcome, colouring equipment provided and staff are very pleasantly cheerful. Cosy setting for chillier days to. Look forward to returning again soon

Great fish and chips, and ice creams. I Recomend the ice cream, fish, chicken burger and chicken bits. The beefburger wasn't as good though. Lots of choice and food portions for a reasonable price. Beer and cider on draught as well is a a nice suprise.

Thank you for the lovely service and delicious breakfast this morning. We had two flat whites and mushrooms on toast (white sourdough from the Duck bakery) with a poached egg (perfectly done) overlooking the sea and sails. Very relaxing.

Lovely little place, great fish and chips, excellent relaxed service and atmosphere. I would go back if I was ever nearby. Honestly not a single complaint from four adults and a big black lab who even got some treats from our host. Highly recommended!

The food was very nice. The service was pretty slow (c35 mins for a lunch), although it was quite busy.

Perfect place to stop for a coffee and refuel after time on the beach. Grand views of the ocean from the front, views of the lagoon/lake at the back. Really nice owners! Great staff. Great ambience and welcoming feel.

Back in the South Hams again after wayyy too long a break. Our plans changed a bit and with some time to relax on the pebble beach at Slapton Ley/Torcross we decided to eat at the Boathouse as my mate doesn’t like to overthink things and stray from his comfort zone. I had Cod and Chips my mate had a GF fishcake and his mate had sausage and chips. Just saw a review saying the fish was poor quality and the chips were frozen. Don’t be afraid. Firstly the chips were frozen as they don’t have a range or a rumbler to do Chippy chips. And it’s a cafe, not a chippy. However any initial disappointment was allayed by the fact that 1/there were loads of chips and 2/they were fried to perfection - not a dud chip in the tray. I seasoned them with Steers seasoned chip salt. Yum. Now onto the fish - it was massive, thick and fresh. Perfectly fried too. Some of the best cod I’ve had recently. As good as the Pisces Fish Bar (the benchmark for delicious fresh cod). The batter was just a bit greasy but was nice and thin and stayed crisp till the end. Bob raved about his fishcake so i guess it was good and also praised the chips. We were very well fed and didn’t feel heavy after the meal. Always a good sign. It wasn’t terribly cheap. But on balance it’s a great meal to sit on the beach and eat. The pub next door does food but is a bit more expensive. Would I return? Yes for sure. Support your local food joints.

Had tea and cakes with the family and it was perfect. Really friendly staff, good table by the window, and the cakes were the best ever. They're made locally and were all super yummy. Thank you!

Had a few takeaways from here, and have sat inside for the first time. The food is excellent, and the chips are just the best. My ciabatta was lovely.

It has become part of our South Hams family holiday ritual to come here for fish and chips either on the first or last night. These guys never fail to deliver and we are so glad they managed to survive the COVID pandemic. The fish and chips from here never disappoints, and the staff are always cheerful and helpful. Keep up the good work!

The Boathouse Takeaway is right beside the sea wall, so it's perfect for getting an ice-cream or fish and chips. The fish and chips were some of the very best we have had, truly excellent. Better yet, they were served in paper containers.

The food is nice but you definitely pay a bit of a premium for the beautiful waterfront location.
