Roku Den

Can't believe that we found such a great sushi place here! The staff recommended a sushi dish not on the menu and it was our favourite. I think it's called ginger ninja (couldn't taste any ginger at all). You should definitely ask for this when you are here. The place is quite romantic and we'll be back for sure when we visit torquay next time.

Have Japanese crave after a few days of Aussie fare. The presentation of the sushi rolls and teriyaki bowl is authentic. Tasted good too. But the teriyaki chicken in the paper roll and sushi roll is not cooked in teriyaki sauce. Just drizzled with teriyaki sauce. Teriyaki rice bowl is grilled with teriyaki sauce. This one is good. Menu is also limited. Would love to see more varieties. Ambience is more for dinner but does give you the feel of being in a Japanese restaurant.

I ate here on my own and they were very accommodating for a single diner, altering some of the items on the menu to suit. I tried the tofu agadashi, seaweed salad and chicken yakitori. I was expecting the yakitori to have more of a charcoal grill flavour, but it was nice enough nevertheless. The seaweed was a large serve, enough for 2 or more. I was blown away by the tofu. It was topped with a "mushroom broth", which was more like a jus, with generous delicious morsels of various tiny delicate mushrooms. So yummy. I finished with a "tiramisu" mochi, which was a lovely end. The ambience is very cozy, warm, nice music. The chefs were all very happy and smiley and obviously loving what they were doing. You could taste that love in the food. The front of house staff were friendly and attentive. Lucky find.

First time going to Roku Den, and I was not disappointed. The steamed rice entree came out in a large bowl with a much larger serving than most Japanese restaurants offer, for a good price. The food was well-presented and everything I tried was delicious. The staff were friendly, and asked us how we were, how our day was going, and how the food was. The only problem was that the stools at the outside bar sit a bit high, so it was hard to get comfortable.
