Kathton House At The Tyler's Kiln

Delicious and creative dishes in a beautiful village setting. Went here for my birthday and it was simply amazing. The menu has a solid range on choices and it's worth phoning ahead if you're vegetarian - the chef prepared especially for us! The wine list is also extensive and caters for all tastes and budgets. Not cheap (although not at all extortionate by fine dining standards) but you very much get what you pay for. If your staying in Canterbury then this place is definitely worth the short 10 minute cab ride out of town for a visit. Your taste buds will not be disappointed!

An absolutely fantastic experience from front of house all through to the kitchen. We had an amazing 6 course tasting menu including wine pairings with each course. The staff were friendly and not intrusive. The sommelier was entertained my and informative and hit the spot with each of his wine pairings. The food was fantastic. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Unfortunately it was better as the old Tyler's kiln. With 4 choices of starter and main, every one of them needs to be 10/10. Most of us got beef but wasn't asked how we wanted it to be cooked, and received 4 slithers of beef. It seems like the restaurant is aiming for quality food and service like Reads, but is way, way off the mark. Service was OK, food was OK, choice was poor. At £65 a head it felt more of an insult when leaving rather than a good experience. If they want a silver service and quality food experience, they need to try much harder. Bring back the old Tyler's kiln
