A warm welcome to the pub is always a good start. Great service and a lovely atmosphere. The food was fantastic which was shown by the empty plates. Everything was perfect. Including the company!

One of my favourite pubs in and around York. Whether it’s the Sunday roast (pictured) or their usual dinner / lunch menu - the food is always fantastic! Great service to match and the owner(s) always make sure everyone feels really welcome.

Sunday lunch 26th Feb 2023. From start to finish The White Horse gave everything to make your eating experience, one to remember. Booked for 5 people, this was our first time here and cannot recommend this place highly enough. We had 2 beef dinners, 2 pork dinners and a prawn tempura. There was nothing on the plates when we had finished. The beef (mine) was cooked to perfection and the pork (wife) was very tasty. The vegetables were seasonal and crisp, the roast potatoes were fantastic. The Yorkshire pudding was big but manageable. The staff were really pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be going back here. Loved everything about our meal, staff and cost.

We just popped in to have a quick bite to eat and were pleasantly surprised at how lovely the pub was. Very Farrow and Ball paintwork and lots of light. A nice, friendly, mixed crowd of couples, families, and locals just eating and drinking. We sat in the conservatory and just ordered some drinks and sandwiches. Not cheap, but well worth it, even at £10. Sandwiches were well presented and came with triple fried chips, gravy, and apple sauce for the roast Pork and tartare sauce for the fish butty 😋. Staff were very pleasant and helpful and you were made very welcome and not rushed. Highly recommended and will go again 👌🏾 👍🏾 👏🏾 🙂.

We had an absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch at this pub with our family. The quality was high and the portions very generous. A great range of beers and wine. We will definitely be returning!

We had a lovely time at The White horse. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The service was great. 3 out of the four meals were very good. However, the gluten free curry was a little disappointing. It is unusual to have minced beef or similar in a curry. The taste of the curry just tasted a little bit spicy more like a mild chilli, but not like curry. It would have been good to have had poppadom and some chutney with the curry. The meals were presented well and served hot.

Lovely find. Took my grandparents here for a Sunday lunch and it was excellent. Food was tasty and presented well, service was good and the staff were pleasant. Venue is clean and well finished. Not the usual pub grub, a definite step up. Side note: it has decent disabled access and tables are suitable for wheelchair users.

I enjoyed a lovely family lunch here last week - the gravy is amazing! ...and the brownie was the best I've had

Went here for a Sunday dinner, one of the few places where you can have chicken instead of the usual beef pork gammon etc, so if you want chicken come here. Excellent sized portion and massive Yorkshire pudding. Grab extra gravy and you've got a fabulous meal.

Really impressed with the food and service. Lots of choice (especially the desserts), absolutely delicious, decent portions but not too much, very freshly cooked and hot. 4 of us had: 2 x beef & ale pies, 1 x ravioli nduja, 1 x fish & prawns, followed by 2 x apple crumbles, 1 x sticky toffee (incredible!) and 1 x brownie (decadent). Asked if we could move tables when we arrived, and a quieter one was found for us. Service was exemplary and very friendly, accommodating one of us with a nut allergy with no issue. New menu due in early September. Will look forward to coming here again.

We visited on Sunday for food as we were camping nearby. I have to say the best roast beef dinner in a long time. The beef was beautifully cooked, generous portions and all the rest (roasts, cauliflower cheese, veg etc) were perfect. A great find and will definately be back. Worth a drive there from home let alone the campsite it was that good!
