The River Garden

Fabulous pub on the canalside with friendly staff, excellent food, and the largest beer garden. When I visited the pub was full of families and the atmosphere was great. The staff are extremely welcoming to boaters (there is a gate to the cut) and are super helpful too. I wish this was my local. Highly, highly recommended.

Nice higher-end pub with beer garden, huge outdoor area with plenty of seating and access to river path, nice in summer. Outdoor seating comes with a different menu so be wary. Indoor is nicely finished with a modern bar, friendly bartenders and plenty of seating options. Food was perfect with generous portions, I suggest going straight to main course, would definitely go here again!

A beautiful place near the Grand Union Canal. A very large outdoor eating area with children's play equipment - perfect in good weather. Our first choice of lunch was not available, again, but staff were very warm and friendly and service was efficient. Lovely indoor decor and a beautiful playlist of songs whilst we dined.

We wanted to eat outside to avoid the loud music and chatter inside. Looked at a menu at the bar, where you have to order if you're eating outside but the outside kitchen is closed. No problem. Until we tried to order from the menu at the bar and were told that the vegan burger on the inside menu isn't available outside, and we were told we had to order from the outdoor menu. Again, no problem. Except the outdoor menus are nailed to the tables, and the server at the bar said we couldn't order a vegan burger for outside. Indoor server *printed* outdoor menus for us so we could show the joker at the bar there *was* a veggie burger on the *outdoor* menu. He tried to explain the confusion was because their outdoor kitchen wasn't open tonight because they weren't busy enough. No problem. Except the confusion was entirely *his* and he acted like *we* were the idiots. Got our order placed eventually, and they brought it out to us. Food was fine, served in cardboard baskets and plastic glasses, presumably to avoid breakage or loss due to rowdy outdoor crowds. We had a laugh about it, because it had turned into a Monty Python skit, but... guys - please make sure your staff know what the hell is going on, and maybe equip the indoor bar with copies of the *outdoor* menus in case of an eventuality such as tonight...? 🤪

Best steak sandwich ever ! Everything about The River Garden was really nice. Beautiful restaurant with really friendly welcoming staff. Only drawback was the parking. Although very few people inside, the car park was taken up with HS2 workers cars. Managed to find a very small space which wasn't ideal.
