Joe's Grill

The Basic, formerly Joe’s Grill, is hand’s down the restaurant that impresses me most in Vancouver. It is first and foremost a diner, so take it in that context. They have amazing brunch options and are very good with gluten free options. I remember visiting San Diego’s most hyped downtown brunch diner and it had nothing on the Basic. It’s a no fuss, but also extremely casual and welcoming place. The staff are amazing and it is clear that they have excellent management as most have been around for years. That have a great outdoor patio with heaters and a street side patio in the summer. In fact, I have been so consistently happy with The Basic over the years that during the pandemic I made it a point to give extra large tips to help them out. Now that the pandemic seems to be mostly over and they are getting more business, I’m slowly returning to more regular tips, but remain just as impressed. If you are looking for a diner or brunch, look no further than The Basic. Thanks so much all the staff!

This place is Discrimination customers! Monique was nice at begin, but when she got the mistake, she didn't react the fault from her side, also the fruits was bad which you can see in the picture. At the end, they are up charged me $2.50 for the substitute fruits! Hopefully they change the way to serve Asian people.

I didn’t really take pictures but ordered the corn beef hash with eggs and pan fried potatoes. While the servers were friendly, the brunch was disappointing. It really was just basic. There are a lot of amazing brunch places in Vancouver for the same price and after such high expectations as this place came recommended i felt a bit let down. It still gets the job done so might be worth it for a quick brunch along the way!

Disappointing to say the least. The single $ on Google is an outright lie at this point. I ordered a waffle combo which came with two small, square waffles, a couple eggs, a couple sausages and some bacon, with a few pieces of fruit (including a slice of pineapple so small and thin I could fold it in half.) Friend had the club sandwich which had a couple slices of deli meat instead of real chicken. For what it all was they were NOT worth the price point of $20 per plate. Joe's used to be a good, simple diner experience at a reasonable price. Now as The Basic it's overpriced, underwhelming food that's certainly worth avoiding in lieu of so many better options in the area. I appreciate costs are going up but good grief, this was unacceptable. Two stars because the server was friendly and the service was prompt.

Me and my husband loved this place soooo much!! My cup of coffee was alway refilled and the food was amazing!!! I had the simply eggs , they were amazing and the potatoes it came with were the perfect kind of crunch and softness I love . My husband had the apple French roast and I had to steal some from his plate !! Amazingly delicious ! Our server was bustling and hustling and kept the place clean and ready for their next customer along with the hostess ! Noticed many repeat clients and that says a lot about how great this place is !!! Robert is a very efficient server and friendly and momo is a very lovely hostess !!!
