Seeing lots of great reviews for the Landlord. I'm pretty sure from what I'm reading here & what I saw (I'm sure he's a nice chap 😂😂😂). But what made his pub extra, extra, extra special was his locals. They didn't know us from Adam. Yet we walked in with our dog, one chap offered to hold ours while we got served (thank you sir). The Acorn Blonde was excellent, (probably could do with some Gin glasses, hint, hint). Sat down & Scruffy was made welcome, well by Battersea Dogs home & their owners. Five minutes laters I was offered Bread & Dripping, which I wasn't going to turned down. Again, thank you sir for offering. Dec, put your feet up & let the locals serve themselves, just let them know how the till works.
Love this pub, Dec is a great bloke n keeps his ales perfectly.
One of the main things I miss since moving out of the area!
Can't wait to visit again soon!!
Won plenty awards from camra for the beer over the years , Dec the owner should have another award for best banter and blaggarding.ive had plenty a side splitting belly laff in here over the years .
Rich poor young old everyone treated the same .
Great pub, very informal good mix of locals, walkers & a bunch of Santa's riding mountain bikes last Saturday. Good beer, no food but landlord doesn't mind you bringing your own. Great place to relax after a walk & very dog friendly.
As usual a wonderful friendly down to earth barman with a genuine interest in how you are etc. The Acorn Blonde we had was superb. Sitting outside on a sunny afternoon was perfect ( apart from the yapping dog nearby lol ) . Went away really relaxed to do the photo shoot in the countryside :)
Proper job, original pub, very friendly (inc all animals not just dogs). Acorn Oakwell Beer. Nice beer garden. Very close to Anglers Country Park (lakes, woods, kids nature trail and bike trails). Cider in cans.
excellent traditional pub the best Barnsley bitter and a fabulous landlord, what more could you want?!
Atmosphere and landlord. It's a pub!
Olde Worlde pub,Real ale and dog friendly
Went to the pub with a small group of friends, made welcome by the landlord and the regulars, and and nothing was too much trouble for them. Included in the general conversation, and interest taken in the older members of the group.
