The staff were really polite and friendly, informing us of a slight delay in food orders which was great. The food was ok, it wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special, just your usual pub grub. It was however priced very fairly in my opinion which was a bonus. The one downside to our visit however was finding out the pub shuts at 22.30 on a Friday night, which was unexpected.

Thank you to Nat at The Sun today. Came in for dinner today and the service was great. A young gent served us our food which was delicious, great service around from the bar staff and credit to the chef for the food which we thoroughly enjoyed. We will be back soon

We went for a family meal to celebrate our grandsons birthday. The barman, sorry I don't know your name, was really helpful with connecting us to the pub Wi-Fi. Our meal was served by Carole, who was lovely. The amazing food was cooked by Jack. Thanks

Came in the other week for a quick bite with some friends. I had a surf and turf with peppercorn sauce which was cooked to perfection by the chef, Hayden. Lovely gins and really great service throughout my visit!

Came in with a mate for lunch and it was great. Excellent selection of food and drinks. The lady behind the bar Nat was also very welcoming.

Location
Just on Leeds Road outside of Wakefield, relatively easy to get to. The exterior was fairly well kept.
Interior
Feels like a chain pub, lacking that character but it was clean and in a good state of repair
Service
We walked in to be instantly told that there was a hour wait on food and to just sit wherever and order on the app. Throughout the night it was clear there was one chef, one bar staff and one waiter/greeter/cleaner. I felt so sorry for the team getting smashed but fair play they kept the place going and were super friendly and helpful.
Food/drink
Chicken platter - wow what a selection of chicken products; piri piri skewer, tandoori breast, buttermilk breast and nuggets. Plenty of chips and an ocean of sauce!
Chicken and ribs - a good amount of food and the ribs fell off the bone!
Mixed grill - a solid grill, only major issue would be the egg (but so hard to please everyone) and the quality of the sausage is questionable
Issues with the food however was that we didn't get onion rings with any meal, there was no fried onion sizzling plate for the platter (it's kind of in the name so a bit embarrassing they forgot this) and the corn was very bland like it had been sat in water for hours.
Price
Okay so this is usually a cheaper eat at around £7-£12 per meal and at half price the bill was laughably low.
Overall
I think this is a good example of getting what you pay for. Was it brilliant? not really. But did it deliver a good eat for a very small price? Yes it did. The staff are overworked and the quality of food could ve enhanced but overall, given the right conditions, I would return for a casual meal but nothing of note.

Came in for a meal as a couple, wanted to share some food but didn’t know what to get, the chef Hayden was on the bar grabbing a drink and gave us some recommendations, he really knows his stuff and the subsequent food he cooked shows that! A few drinks and a few starters followed by some chocolate desserts, a cheap and amazing weekday date night!

First time at the sun lovely staff. The food was very nice. Really enjoyed it we will call in again. 🖕🖕🖕🖕🤗🤗 Second time at the sun the career could have been warmer but otherwise a nice pub to call into.

Have come in for food a few times recently and 9 out of 10 times have been served by Kara. Every time we come in she is always kind and greets us with a smile. Today our chef was Scott, and the food was fabulous as always. 100% recommend.
Shaun Wilkinson
Great place for a quiet meal or family fun. Liam was very helpful and easy to talk to. Well recommend

Usually enjoy a meal here with family as great that the kids can play and we can all eat afterwards but our visit yesterday was a disaster! Firstly, no staff watching the kids in the Fuzzy Eds or anyone behind the counter serving drinks/snacks..
Then we sat down to order food on the only table that didn't have empty plates and glasses on and after ordering our meal told 30 minute wait on food (which was fine as Sunday afternoon so expected a bit of wait). Ordered, and when food arrived finally there was no rice on the Chicken masala as stated on the menu. Asked the waiter where it was and got a "Oh, didn't anyone tell you we had no rice?" To which we answered no and just got a "oh sorry about that" no offer to replace or add anything else or anything. had we known this wed have ordered something else!! Kids meal of mixed grill was dry and frazzled and poor kid was so hungry by this point he covered the whole thing in ketchup and tried to eat it.
More staff needed on busy periods and better communication between staff must. Feel like we wasted money on a below par meal and day out :-(

I thought I'd heard it all when a friend of mine in hospital recently was offered a cheese sandwich or a banana when they stated they were vegan but The Sun Inn has catapulted to No1 on the shit list. Given that this was a booked function you had more than enough time to surprise us with your culinary expertise. Whilst we appreciate that many places have yet to drag themselves out of the stone age and cater for 7% of the UK population, you had many weeks notice yet all you could manage to provide at a buffet was cold Quorn nuggets and the cheapest, anaemic looking attempt at a fun size spring roll. Of the variety of desserts you provided none were suitable, not even the strawberries which you had piled onto the same plate as the non vegan chocolate cake. The one plate of vegan food you did provide was not separate or labeled as such and so was mostly consumed by the carnists in the group before we got anywhere near it. You only provided two sets of tongs for the entire buffet and as both sets were quickly contaminated with dead animals we were forced to use our fingers. As for drinks, not a single non alcoholic beverage was available that wasn't diet and didn't contain artificial sweeteners. Your bar staff's piss poor excuse 'the sugar tax' is ridiculous. People should have a choice what they choose to drink regardless of the extra cost, which would be a mere 9 pence on a pint of coke. This is a pub yet the local corner shop have more varieties of drinks available. Despite being given prior notice of numbers you also failed to provide enough tables or chairs and we spent the first hour standing up and then sitting away from the main group. It's a shame I have to give you 1 star to write this review, you don't deserve any. Given your performance today I should invoice you for the electricity and time taken to write this review. If you are someone with a degree of care or compassion and choose a vegan lifestyle, don't expect this place to cater for you.

Thought we would give this pub a try as we could not get a table at our regular pub for food. It didn’t look busy inside but there were a few people outside. We ordered our food and after 40 minutes went to ask how long it would be. They said there was a 45 minute delay but we had not been made aware of this. We waited 55 minutes. I sent my food straight back as my steak came medium to well done and it should have been medium rare. My husbands meal was missing tomatoes and mushrooms. My salad was missing courgettes and raisins turned out to be “raisin”! My second steak was good and my husband enjoyed his meal but we will not be going back. What it says on the menu and what turns up on your plate leave a lot to be desired!

First of all we booked a table and they put us right next to the bar where there was about 20 lads shouting and drinking and messing around dident bother me but we had 2 young girls with us so we asked to move tables so they put us down the back in the kids corner which was fine I love kids but there was toys all over the floor it was like to play stepping stones. when we did get to the table it was full of muck and half a burger and empty glasses so when we moved everything and asked a lad if he could wipe the table we finally sat down.we ordered at 6.45 and the food finally arrived at 5 past 8 and it was terrible most of the food was missing of our plates out of 6 meals not one of us got everything we should of got we had to ask the lad who cleaned our table what was missing he wrote it all down and fetched most of it back from the kitchen by the time he came back we had eaten the meal and our sides came out as we were leaving never again we got out side on the car park and there was a guy screaming and shouting is head off about they had been waiting over an hour he's very lucky I'm a nice person because I wanted to rip is head off

Honestly just brought my little boy to play for an hour and it’s empty and no staff , no one in the tills and waiting ages and no one here to serve me with a drink . Absolutely diabolical I used to come here as
A child myself and it was a lot better than this !!! Talk about health and safety !! Please employ more staff . I will not be returning

I was there today for a family gathering that had been prebooked Even though they had plenty of notice they failed to provide any decent food for us vegans. The Quorn nuggets and veg spring rolls were cold and tasteless and since they were not labelled as vegan they were mostly gobbled up by meat eaters before we could get to them. The buffet was great for everyone else but not for us. They had a selection of desserts but nothing was suitable for vegans. There was nowhere near enough tables and chairs. Service was average with virtually no non alcoholic drinks on offer. All non alcoholic drinks were diet. Couldn't even get a Britvic 55!! I hope the family books elsewhere next year because this place is shockingly bad.
Liam Carbutt
We booked a table of 15 and they forgot to collect the stater plate so we ended up waiting nearly 2 hours for food and the management were very poor with helping us and didn’t care

All the way from Australia for a family Christmas. Booked at the Sun Inn for Christmas lunch....revolting. Frozen vegetables, prawns and cold brandy sauce... not to mention they forgot the cranberry and stuffing then preceded to bring 8 hard as stone stuffing balls to the table and we were required to pick them up by hand from the plate. Worse food I have eaten in a very long time.
Deborah Allerton
