Illies Cafe Segedunum Museum - Wallsend - Photo album

I've driven past Segedunum loads of times but have never been in. There's a lot more to see inside than you would think. The views from the top of the tower are amazing. See photos.
A really convenient museum located just off the Newcastle Metro system in Wallsend. If you're traveling with kids and young adults Segedunum is worth a stop. The elevator and views of the surrounding excavation and city are really nice. It's a very well thought out place, which gives children the
Loved the viewing tower, able to oversee the remains of the roman fort and the surrounding area, dominated by the shipping industry (or remains of it). Museum was passable, would be OK for non specialists visit but descriptions were quite brief. Cafe was not open today
Amazing visit. Although there is not much left of the fort ruins, the layout is clear to see. There is also a video and model of what the fort looked like in its day. The museum is also well worth a look around. Great temporary exhibition on the building of the wall and lots of activities for child
It is a pity that so few is left of the Roman Fort and that this location is part of the Tyne harbours. That makes the surroundings a bit ugly. But the exhibition and the watch tower make up for that
Roman ruins with a museum. It's a great museum, and the 9th floor viewing area made it so much better to understand the layout.
A Roman Fort site, which has been carefully curated to provide a visual guide to the layout of the fort. A spectacular glass viewing tower enables visitors to get an aerial view of the Fort site. There is a very interesting, well presented museum with activities for children and gift shop. The on si
Visited with a school party, fantastic day out and plenty to see and do. Really enjoyed the viewing platform and the different galleries within the museum showing the history of the area. Large parking area, easy access for all, with a cafe, shop and attractions on site.
Great place to visit, well displayed remains of the last forty on Hadrian's Wall , including part of the wall and a modern reproduction. The viewing Tower was a great introduction to look out over the fort area. Some of the fort is over the road - care needed when crossing. There are lights a little
My kids had great fun imagining what this place was like back in time. Also the small break out rooms with activities kept their interest. The roman baths was closed and they were looking forward to seeing those, but regardless they had a great trip out.
Great views from the tower look out and very informative gallery. Gift shop with memorabelia
After 6 days walking this place is a joy to see and it doesn’t disappoint my intention is to revisit and take more time.
As we approached the fort, at the end of our 84 mile Hadrian's Wall walk, we were footsore and did not feel at all inclined to look around another Roman museum. However, we were given such a warm, enthusiastic welcome and were offered a restorative cup of tea, which we drank while we enjoyed spectac
Very awesome seeing something from such an ancient historical setting. If you want some perspective, check this place out. Also looked very child friendly, lots of activities for little ones. I picked a rainy and cold day but I still thoroughly enjoyed it!
An interesting museum at the eastern end of Hadrian’s Wall - if you are interested in Roman Britain, it is a very good way to spend a couple of hours. There isn’t much of the old fort remaining but you can see the plan of the fort as well as a reconstruction of the Roman bath house, which unfortuna
We had a great few hours in this Museum. The young man on the desk was very informative, funny and helpful. View of the Tyne from the observation tower is a must do. Don't forget to visit the actual wall over the road in the far right corner. Worth a trudge up to visit this part.
